Just be mindful its bloody cold at this time in Vegas, you’re looking at below zero at night and mid-high teens during the day. Unless there is a specific event on at this time, leaving the Aussie summer for Vegas in winter, which is very much a summer destination, is a hard sell imo.

    • +1

Sounds better than min 27.8 / max 40.3 in July to me; each to their own.

      • Indeed. And Grand Canyon choppers grounded in the heat.

        • Helicopters are not permitted into the Grand Canyon and there are numerous no-fly zones. If you're going to fly into Vegas drive out there and actually visit and stay in the National Park. Explore it on foot.

It's lovely in winter and if you're lucky there will be a bit of snow.

          • @tp0: Don't forget it's US$20-$35 for entry plus US$100 per person for non US residents. That's a lot of money for a national park.

    • +3

Why are we looking mid-high teens during the day?

      • Because that's the way the earths weather works when it rotates on its axis

      • Because they normally head home in time for dinner

      • +1

        Also something Trump would say

    • It's cold, but it is extremely pleasant on the sunny days. You can easily wear shorts when it's 14C and sunny with no wind.

  • +6

Vegas is no longer what it used to be, full of roadside carts, druggies, and homeless, avoid at all costs. The whole strip walk smells terrible, likely urine / weed.

    • +5

it is also far more expensive and losing a lot of tourists. it was a pretty popular topic last year

    • +1

I was there last year and this is a massive exaggeration, it's full of tourists.

Now the real reason you don't go is the cost, the prices of things are insane, $50 for 2 slices of pizza, I ended up eating sandwiches and drinking beer in my hotel because I couldn't stomach the cost of eating out.

      The shows were amazing thoughbeit.

      • Never at on the strip unless it's for the "experience". China and Korea town have some so many cheap eats that are miles better and even when including an Uber ride, so much cheaper.

    • -4

      Sounds like Melbourne CBD.

      • Rent free.

  • it it normal to have resort fees separately on top of hotel room fees?

    • Yes, all hotels on the strip charge resort fees. I believe only few which are closer to airport dont charge

    • +2

Yes, all hotels charge these BS resort fees. Vegas is very expensive compared to a few years ago.

      • Is the resort fee thing only in Vegas or whole Usa?

        • Depends on the hotel. I have paid it in the past in Hawaii. F'ing rip off.

    • It depends where you book. Australian law says that all fees must be shown in the price, so it should be included in the price. If you book on a US website, then it likely won't be included by default - but it depends. eg, Expedia.com show prices with everything included, and that includes the Resort Fee.

    • You can ask them to remove the resort fee (either during booking or at checkin). It usually comes with some restrictions, i.e. no pool/gym access, no wifi, etc.

      • +1

I’ve never seen or heard of that in Vegas, which hotel offers that? The only way I’ve seen them getting waved is if you have status or a high roller at a particular hotel/casino.

        • Yeah they're not going to waive resort fees.

That's how they make their money.

        • Did that last year at Planet Hollywood. Maybe it was easier because the pool was closed for renovation, but I heard of that trick from my colleague who uses it every time he goes to Vegas

          • @skyworxx: Well yeah if the pool was closed then you arnt getting the "resort" so im not suprised they waived the fees…

  • America currently has a 10% tariff on Australia 😤

  • what happens in vegas stays in vegas ;)

    • +2

Unless it's an sti, that will come back with you
