    I know it's insane now but man this really hurts

    • -1

      So insane I could not believe my eyes and had to ask Claude to break it down why. "A perfect storm of several converging forces", it said.

      • Sounds like quantum physics, though we won't be using these RAM for quantum computing hey!?

      • +40

        The fact that you went to AI to ask why RAM is expensive is exactly why RAM is expensive…

        • +3

          this.. and given the electricity & water costs too, soon we are going to have to admit that using it for casual searching is something to avoid

          • @Horacio: Google search power usage base.. AI search used twice the power. Its not much until you factor in billions of searches and it add up.

          • +3

            @Horacio: You can't even totally avoid it. E.g. I don't open up ChatGPT etc, but duckduckgo and Google both use it automatically.

            • @Deco: DDG allows you to hide it. I know because I've gone out of my way to do so.

              • @Morkai: Ah that's good to know. Will give that a go. Luckily DDG's AI very rarely come up, unlike Google's.

        • +3

          That's the joke.

          • +5

            @BoltThrower: It was a joke indeed, but folks took it seriously and negged me 🥲

        • Guilty as charged!

      • +4

        Negged for a blatant joke, unreal, ozbraindamage more like.

    • +2

      damn i wished i bought this last year when it was 300 bucks lol.

      • We all do

    • +31

      You definitely haven't been keeping up with what's going on in the market in the last 6-9 months.

      • +7

        It's been so crazy! I have a media server that had 16gb of ddr4. Last year in April I decided I wanted to get another 16gb (8gb x 2) of ram, and I got basically the cheapest option that would work, which was $29 per stick, so $58 total. That same stick of ram now though (which, again is ddr4! Not even ddr5!) is $119 per stick! If I got it now, that would be $238 for ddr4 ram! It's absolutely insane!

        • +2

          I have a server with 512 GB DDR4…..im considering selling it as the memory alone is $4K used…….I paid $400 for the memory a year ago.

          My gaming rig has 4x16 Dominator ram …. god I really bought at the right time

        • +2

          I paid $153 for 32gb DDR5 6400mhz ram feb 2025, it's crazy to see the prices double then triple then quadruple in such a short time.

      • -1

        I checked other price and 6600 with 64g is 999 . So i guess they will honor the purchase,
        The ram price will go wild for another year as most of production is sold to make AI chips.

        They may clean up the old stock. Surprising this price hasnot OOS yet.

      • +6

        I can't wait for the AI bubble to burst and they beg us to buy their ram.

    • It just looks different, functionally this is the same as 6000 cl30 vengeance bins, the heat spreaders are both pretty terrible

      Bins usually only matter for 6000 cl26 / 8800+ bins, 99%+ of Hynix dies will do 6000 30 so no binning needed

      • Are you sure? Because this is titanium top end model and different to the dominator platinum.
        They probably use same stuff as cl30 vengeance bins.

        I did not read reviews . Can you explain why heat spreaders are terrible for this model .

        For pc builders . This seems better choices due to over priced ram. 64g vengeance ddr5 6000 cost mote atm

    • +1

      where have you been under a rock? prices of ram have sky rocked

      • Sky rock danger. Fall on head. Very bad

  • +8

    Thanks for the price update

  • +1

    Normal price early-2025: ~$450 AUD according to AI. Seems like a reasonable price for high end memory if you are in the market to building a PC now.

    • Which AI are you asking? Chatgdpt?. 450 was probably the lowest price point. I was trying to buy 4TB ssd since 2023 and the lowest price for NM790 4tb was 279 or 299 for a couple of times and price started rocking after 2024 until now. I was lucky to snap 990 pro 4tb for 460 last month and i dont think you will get that price for the rest of year.

    • +5

      Anyone else see the irony in the fact you used what has caused the prices of RAM, etc to skyrocket to find out previous pricing?

    • +7

      AI is a terrible tool to use for getting latest prices.

  • +17

    2019
    House = $450k
    RAM = $200

    2026
    House = $1,000,000
    RAM = $800

    Where can I get my greed virus Jab?

    • +10

      Then people gaslight you saying it is not that bad and just get a top 1% job of 200k/yr side hustle and three partners on same income

    • +4

      Capitalism can only grow so much before it eats itself.

      2019
      House = $750k
      RAM = $250

      2026
      House = $1,000,000
      RAM = $800

      I fixed it for you. To buy a house for $450 in sydney you would have needed to go back to 2012 and that was outer suburbs like Campbeltown

    • +1

      you need ram for a house now?

  • +4

    The soul can only take so much pain!

  • I'm just curious and I like to learn - but $800 just for RAM? Why?

    • +1

      Cos that’s the cheaper right now? Otherwise HODL!!

  • SO it's either this or I fill up my car.

    • +4

      Cant fill car, no fuel left :p

  • +5

    fahhhhh im glad i bought my 64gb 6000 C30 ram 2 years ago for $350

  • +5

    it's very sad that this is the cheapest right now.

  • RIP me needing to find a 128 kit…

  • Heres hoping in 3 years time when i wanna upgrade to Zen6 with 8000Mts ram prices have come down

    • +4

      The generative AI industry as a whole has a lot of bills coming due this year but no money to pay them. I don't think you'll have to wait even one year, let alone three.

      • +1

        $150 oil prices should crash the global economy

  • I purchased similar spec CL36 DDR5 ram in Jan this year for $494.00 and the general views were "Im crazy for paying that" https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/942896

    In just 2 months later the same ram is around $650 now. Sometimes you have to strike when the iron is hot, I also dont believe they will ever get back down to the 2021-2024 prices again.

    • +1

      That's 32gigs good sir. But i get your point.

      • Oh I must have missed that. My mistake

    • -1

      At some point pricea will come back down…. DDR2 and even DDR3 is dirt cheap today. When DDR6 and DDR7 cone out the same thing will happen to DDR4 and DDR5

      • +4

        Yeah but why would anyone building a "new" machine want 2 generation old tech? That would be like someone posting a deal on DDR3 ram on Ozbargain today, literally nobody is interested.

        • you said… I also dont believe they will ever get back down to the 2021-2024 prices again.. i pointed out then given enough time YES DDR5 will go back down… it willk even be at a point of being worthless given enough time. years and years

      • +1

        I have a box full of 2GB DDR2 and 3 sticks. Want them?

  • +2

    I hate that this price is now a "deal" lol

  • I mean it has come down a bit in price, we were seeing 32GB for $800 for a bit there.

    It's still not great and I am extremely lucky to have obtained 48GB for $400. It's just so insane the corporate greed going on right now.

    • +4

      I bought 96GB DDR5 SODIMM for $350 and was upset that i missed out on the earlier price of $325. and now it all seams like a bargain. Perspective and time!

  • +3

    I know everyone is upset about how much RAM costs now, but the cheapest I could get 64gb CL30 for in January was $1300… So this is actually an amazing deal

  • Anyone got any recommendations for cheap DDR4 RAM? Either 2x32GB or 4x16GB?

  • Is it safe to assume this comes with both XMP and EXPO profiles? Store only says XMP but Corsair says it does both.

    • +1

      The specs on the grey sku does mention on product page. It does support EXPO.

    • I have the same kit (XMP only edition) running perfectly ok on an Asus X870e Hero motherboard (DCOP1 profile).

      2 XMP profiles available for use on the kit (6000 C30, 6200 C32), though I have the kit working 100% stable at 7200 C34 after manually tuning timings.

  • and the panic buying continues lol

  • Was going to build a new PC this year, I think I'll HODL. For how long…who knows? lol

  • I'm just curious, but how much would a kit like this have cost before the price hikes?

    • Paid $279.58 each for some mid last year.

      • Thanks for your reply. Just to clarify though, you mean you paid $560 for 64GB back then?

        • +1

          Paid $560 for 2x 64GB kits.

          • @xuqi: That's insane, now I see how bad it really is atm. Thankyou for your reply👍

    • $100 to $200 for 32Gb DDR5

      $250 to $349 for 64GB DDR5

      $500 to $799 for 128Gb DDR5

      • +1

        Thankyou for his information👍 As I said to @xuqi this is crazy and also depressing 😓

        I think I heard somewhere that Pre-built PC prices have jumped up enormously because of this issue.

        I mean, that's several hundred dollars extra, for just the same spec RAM and the SSD now and if you were thinking of an up-specced option, you probably looking at $1000+ 😲
