Can’t find any difference from my base M4 MBP except for the chip. I guess I should be waiting for M6

Why upgrade your one year old machine?

      • They decided not to

      • +2

Because some people have more cents than sense.

        • salary sacrifice and sell old one if on top marginal tax rate, and new warranty, i personally don’t need the processing power of a new chip, but some might get a better user experience.

15-20% faster CPU, 45% faster GPU, and vastly improved AI capabilities. Double the SSD speed, enhanced memory bandwidth, and better ray tracing. That is a significant bump across the board. Don't know what else you expect in one version up.

      • “AI capabilities” what exactly do ppl use this for? apple intelligence?

        • You could probably run some smaller sized LLM models locally

Sadly no macbook air M5 deals from Costco though they have had clear outs on M2 Macbook air.

    • FYI just looking now and the M5 13” MBA is 1700 (~$100/off), for preorder.

Great find! At least $200 more everywhere else at the moment.

I think better to go for macbook pro M5 1TB option via Apple education store which gives Airpod 4 NC free. Can use Woolworths apple gift card that gives back 10% in form of reward points.

Turns out to be better deal than this overall. I ordered one. I used guest checkout option and it didn't ask for any Uni email ID. I ordered it on Thursday for my wife who is an educator and enrolled for a uni course as well with Uni email ID, but it did not ask at the time of purchase.

    • Did they ask when it was getting delivred?

      • It says between 10th-12th March.

Also, My logic of going for M5 pro instead of air, it is launched in Oct25 so there would be software support available for next 8 years. Bigger battery, better screen(nits), inbuilt fans(less heat build up providing logetivity). It will last 10+ years easily.

Did I mention free engraving on airpods as well.

        • Macbook pro m5 Pro or Macbook pro M5

Also did u get the one with 24gb ram, and how much did the price come out to.

  • MacBook Air M4 13” 16GB / 512GB - $1597
    MacBook Air M5 13” 16GB / 512GB - $1797
    MacBook Pro M5 14” 16GB / 512GB - $2000

The pricing ladder has me falling straight into Apples trap… $200 more for the M5 14” Pro with the screen upgrade/performance/battery life - even though it would be absolute overkill for my needs.

(Oops just realised the MBA M5 is $1700 at Costco)

If you have no need for the extra power/ don't mind the screen the air is great for 95% of people.

    • i wish we could turn off the fan for pro, then i would buy it, i have developed an OCD for laptop fan noise and i cant end up with another fan laptop, windows laptops have ruined me

      • It rarely turns on, stock Macos only turns the fan on later on and heat is way less compard to windows laptops that have the fin spinning only from browsing(x86 not too sure about snapdragon on windows)

        • my intel m15 laptop has done the damage, i cant have another laptop with a fan. ill pull my hair out

    Does Officeworks price beat?

    • Not anymore sadly :(

      • Is it worth driving the staff at my local store often price beat emporuim electronics.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/907688

Some had success shortly after the change, but doubt you’ll have luck. Be safer to ring the store and ask before committing to the drive.

Good Guys does sometimes price match Costco if that’s any help.

          • @OpticalCog: I'll go later today or tmrw and keep you updated.
Also i'll see if they pricematch B&H PhotoVideo. Was reading the t&c and my friend was saying to me they might. I'll ask but probaly will just buy from Costco.
            Thanks for the help OpticalCog

PS; i'll call apple store see if they can pricebeat/match once i get home.

            • @DealHunter321: B&H is US-based, so unlike OW will match/beat them.

              • @twister292: @twister292

Yeah but ill just ask it costs nothing to. I'll lyk how it goes just caught up with work haven't got time to go yet.

          • +1

@OpticalCog: I asked good guys they said "its below cost price"

  • Always happens to me, bought this on Amazon for 2298 cry just over 2 weeks ago

  • Pretty good price for Apple. I feel they’re trying to get more people into the Apple ecosystem. I haven’t used a Macbook Pro since my 2015 died 13 months after purchase due to overheating issues. I remember having troubles networking with Windows and finding an actual use case for a mac laptop. Also struggled with finding affordable software. Felt like every piece of software had a paywall and was overpriced. My Windows 11 device is debloated with Chris Titus tech and shutup10 to delete as much telemetry as possible. Trying to switch to CachyOS but it’s hard to get off MicroSlop when you work in Enterprise IT

  • Unfortunately you can’t preorder the MacBook Pro $1999 because it says out of stock it’s not a preorder like the air

    Out of stock both colours

    • Some say u can PB with JB/OW if the store manager/staff don't mind worth asking.
