Really appreciate you raising this! This has now been resolved; the Custom Work link should be working properly. Thank you

No way would I trust a $500 suit to not tear like tissue paper on impact.

Where are they made? For that price I’d expect buffalo hide, not full grain cowhide. Certainly not a chance in hell you’re able to make a suit out of kangaroo hide and turn a profit, unless they are manufactured in Pakistan.

Also, there is no such thing as CE Level 3 for motorcycle protective gear.

    Buyer beware.

    • +7

Thanks for raising those points; appreciate the scrutiny.

For some background, Motrox has been operating in the UK for over 15 years. If helpful, you can see our long-running eBay UK store here where many of the reviews relate to motorcycle gear including racing suits:

      https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/motroxltd

We’ve sold 18,000+ items with over 6,000 reviews and ~98.5% positive feedback. Around a third of those products are motorcycle suits.

      We’ve recently expanded to Australia:

      https://www.ebay.com.au/str/motroxaustralia

That store is newer but currently sits at 100% feedback.

Regarding the armour rating point: you’re absolutely correct that CE standards for limb protectors only define Level 1 and Level 2 under EN1621-1. The default armour supplied with this listing is Level 1, with Level 2 upgrade options available.

The “Level 3” wording referenced on our site relates to an internal armour configuration tier, not a CE certification level. I agree that the wording in this post could have been clearer, so we’ll update that to avoid confusion.

      Appreciate you pointing it out.

Happy to answer any other questions.

I have been riding motorcycles for over 40 years. I don't have one in Australia so this deal isn't for me but just wanted to let you know with answers as comprehensive and as helpful as you are to any questions raised, just wish you all the best and hope you do well. Clearly old fashioned customer service is something you believe in, great to see! 🙂

you've operated in the UK for 15 years. But where are the suits made?

You've also not yet changed the wording in your post to remove CE 3 armour.

      • +5

That’s nice and all, but you dodged the important questions as far as where they’re manufactured, or what they’re actually made of.

You cannot convince me that a UK manufacturer is able to produce a good quality racing suit with custom measurements from imported full-grain kangaroo hide for $500 with free shipping to Australia without considerable losses.

          • +3

            @Franc-T: I’d say it’s very relevant where they’re made.

If they’re UK manufactured - which I can absolutely guarantee they’re not - they have to pass CE regulation which guarantees a minimum competency for protecting you in a crash. Brands made in Pakistan, Bangladesh and India flood the market with relatively poor quality products that are woefully inadequate at doing near on anything to save your skin when you slide down a race track over 100kph. The leather is typically very low grade - certainly not full grain - and often bursts on initial impact with the tarmac. These companies skirt CE certification requirements and any legal liability by having the products manufactured overseas and drop-shipped to customers directly, misleading them with labels like “CE approved” referring to the armour only, which accounts for three-fifths of not a lot when it comes to crash time.

            • @SludgeTrumpet: What leathers aren't made in Pakistan or India etc? Even the top tier are.

Nobody has problems with leathers coming apart. Leather is durable so long as it isn't plastic, modern plastic stitching is durable.

Even cheap leathers are going to hold up better than the plastic stuff and basic Kevlar jeans.

          • +3

@Franc-T: Products should always state where they are made. Why? Because quality matters and people have a right to know. Especially when it is for something that is the difference between life and death.

Operating in XXX country for XX years means jack and simply dodging the question.

            • @sassypants: Hmm, just saw the banner on the website says "100% Aussie Owned" - not sure how I feel about that.

        • -1

Almost all leather motorcycle products are made in India or Pakistan - not sure why this would be a concern

          • @the-fuzz: Categorically incorrect. Alpinestars leather products are almost entirely manufactured in Vietnam. Dainese is cutting costs by manufacturing in Indonesia, Ukraine and Slovenia. Ixon, RST, Berik, they’re all made mostly in China. Any European or South East Asian made products are ALWAYS better than the stuff coming out of India/Bangladesh/Pakistan. Even Five Gloves had a factory in Pakistan and the quality was so poor they shifted to Vietnam.

Source? I work in the industry.

            • @SludgeTrumpet: Almost all leather will be sourced from India/Pakistan - A lot of manufacturing has moved from Pakistan/India to SEA - the reason for movement wasn't quality, it was costs. India and Pakistan are becoming expensive for manufacturing as the standards of living improve - Vietnam has been to logical choice for alot of manufacturing, Cambodia is quickly becoming the next target.

FWIW, even top brand names like Dainese and Alpinestars suits that cost 3 times as much are also mostly made in low labour cost countries like China, India, Pakistan, sometimes eastern European countries like Armenia, Slovenia and Ukraine. Yes, I do have an assorted collection of Dainese, Alpinestars, Icon, Joe Rocket etc gears, mostly the first two brands. And yes, the leather ones I have are full grain cowhide too. I can testify cow hide leather (Alpinestars made in Slovenia) did its job having thrown off a track once. So where they are made are not so much important as the brand's known reputation.
P.S. @SludgeTrumpet good pick up on CE Level 3. Apparently, all riding garments sold in the EU must comply with the EN 17092 standard, which ensures they meet strict safety requirements. I would be keen to know if that's the case here considering they are sold in UK too. There should be a CE mark on the label, which often includes a motorcycle rider icon, the specific standard (e.g., EN 17092), and the rating (AAA, AA, or A). My one-piece suit has EN 17092 Class AA, my street jacket has EN 17092 Class A. If they have compliance, it's well worth considering this vendor with 15 years track record and buyers feedbacks for this price. It should be sufficient for most people here who are likely street riders or occasional track day riders. Unless you are regular competition riders doing break neck speeds and need a no compromise suit.
Edit: I cannot see any mention of EN 17092 on the listings on Motrox web site.

  • thanks, Halloween present sorted

Hi, yes we’re the same company. Motrox has been operating in the UK for 15+ years and we expanded to Australia last year & loving it so far. Appreciate the question.

      • How are you "100% Aussie Owned" if you've been operating in the UK for 15+ years? I'm not saying it's bullshit, but it doesn't smell right.

        • -1

Fair question & happy to clarify.

When we say “Aussie owned”, we’re referring to the ownership of the business behind Motrox Australia. The brand Motrox been operating in the UK market for many years, and we expanded operations into Australia last year under Australian ownership.

So while the brand has history in the UK market, the current business operating Motrox Australia is Australian owned and run locally.

          Appreciate you raising it. Thanks!

The sales notification widget on your website was so infuriating I can't be bothered browsing anymore. Also couldn't figure out what the difference is between the armour options.

    • Sorry about that; sounds like the sales notification widget may be popping up a bit too frequently. I’ll get that adjusted.

Also appreciate the feedback about the armour options, we’ll clarify the differences on the product page to make that easier to understand.

  • I used them a few times when I started off riding in the UK as I had a limited budget and they were cheap. It's good value for money stuff and will do it's job fine, but obviously don't compare it to more premium brands for 500 bucks.

    • Thanks for sharing that; appreciate the feedback.

That’s exactly the space we’re trying to serve: riders who want a gear without having to jump straight to the $1k+ premium brands, while still aiming to provide solid protection a& build quality at a more accessible price point. It’s always a balancing act.

  • Just checked out the website and saw you can choose the armor's CE rating on the suit between level 1-3 but I thought CE rating only goes up to 2

    • Thanks for pointing that out. You’re correct that CE armour standards typically define Level 1 & Level 2.

On our product page the heading refers to “Armour Class”, which is an internal configuration option for the level of coverage/setup in the suit. The Level 1 & 2 options do ofcourse use CE-approved armour accordingly.

The wording clearly needs to be explained better on the website to avoid confusion, so we’ll update that. Appreciate you flagging it.

  • When I click on the link the price is still showing up as $632.99, not $517

    • +1

Thanks for your comment. The $632 price appears when the custom-made size option is selected on the product page. For this deal, please place the order using any standard size, and we’ll send you a measurement form after purchase so the suit can be made-to-measure at the $517 deal price.

Also just to note as mentioned above; free customisation during this promotion can also be arranged for other one-piece or two-piece suits on our website. If you prefer a different design, feel free to reach out and we can organise it under this offer.
