So if I have a phone to trade in that they say is worth $470, does the math work out as: $997-$350 trade in bonus - $470 phone = $177? This seems too reasonable

    • +3

Yes, that's how trade ins work, the $350 is a bonus for trading in any phone.

      • But does it get returned as a gift card or upfront off the purchase price?

        • +1

It depends on each deal but this one specifically says it takes it off the pixel 10 you're buying, as it's a trade-in bonus towards the phone

          • @SuBw00FeR: Just return the phone with their 30 days change of mine policy.

        • +16

The $350 gets taken directly off the purchase price of the phone.

Your receipt from JBHIFI will show you purchasing the phone for $647.

          I just did this deal.

          1) Go to the trade in website and enter your device details
          2) Then you need to verify your identity
          3) Then they pre-auth charge your credit card for the device amount (e.g. $470 in your case)
          4) They email you 2 things - A digital gift card worth $470, A coupon code that gives you $350 off the purchase price.
          5) When purchasing your phone you can then use the coupon code and digital gift card at check out. Would verify with the store first as have heard stories of some stores being dicks and not letting people stack multiple coupons/gift cards.
          5) If you don't send them your phone within 4 weeks, your CC gets hit with the $470 charge.

          • @Powershopz: Think im a bit slow.

I followed the link > Entered my phone deets. Says trade in value is $47.

          • @Powershopz: Wait it said 7 days , where's the 4 weeks from

        • +1

It all comes off the purchase price, I did this a couple of years ago, if you don't return the other phone they charge you the value of the other phone but you keep your trade in bonus, or at least that's how it worked out in my case, ymmv.

        • The Bonus offer is counted as a coupon and deducted from the price of the phone; the trade value is a Gift card.

    • Trade-in# any phone for an instant

  • Can you trade in any phone in store? Xiaomi isnt showingin the list, nor a pixel 2

    • +1

Can only trade online, JB are not handling the trade, its done buy a third party, and must be a device that can be selected in their drop down menu.

    • Bugger I've got a xiaomi to trade in.

      • +2

Same, was going to buy it but I have no phones eligible for trade in.

  • I got 256gb pro for $1250ish. This doesn't seem like a deal. The trade in is decent though

    • +2

      $650 for a pixel 10 isn't a deal???

      • Requires a trade in.

        • +2

Not really, you just don't send in your phone.

So the final price is $647.

          • @TEER3X: Pardon my ignorance but wouldn't someone call me and ask for the phone I was going to send in? How does this work?

Edit: never mind, understood it by reading the rest of the thread.

  • Anyone know with TRS whether this would be claimable against the full $997 price? Assuming the coupons appear as part of payment

    • The receipt shows the Price after the Coupon is applied.
      Google Pixel 10 256GB
      $1149 purchase
      minus $400 Bonus Coupon
      Google Pixel 10 256 $749.00

The Trade is counted as a gift card

      • So just the trade in value bonus ($646 for 128GB), not the trade in value?

        • Yes, the bonus is a coupon and deducted from the price, the Trade is a gift card, so it counts as a payment.

      • Nunya

          • @Tommyaka: Please share where the criteria states it must not be brought back to the origin country.

              • @Tommyaka: However, its 997 minus trade in bonus, bringing the total below the threshold

                  • @Tommyaka: Just going by the above, the original reason for the question

"Yes, the bonus is a coupon and deducted from the price, the Trade is a gift card, so it counts as a payment."

  • +15

You can just register a trade for an Apple Pencil or old smart watch and get the bonus trade in value. Then dont trade the device in and get charged for the value.

So for example, AirPods 2 have a trade value of $20. Get the phone for $997 -$350 -$20 = $627.

Dont trade in the Airpods, Assurant will charge your credit card the $20. So $647.

Here is Geminis summary of the terms and conditions

Based on the terms and conditions for the JB Hi-Fi Trade-In program (operated by Assurant), if you do not return your traded-in device, the following will happen:
    1. Your Credit/Debit Card Will Be Charged
When you initiated the trade-in, a pre-authorisation hold was placed on your nominated credit or debit card for the full value of the JB Hi-Fi eGift Card you received.
If Assurant does not receive your device within 7 days (or the specified timeframe for pre-orders) of issuing the eGift Card, they will process that payment.
The amount charged will be equal to the full value of the eGift Card already provided to you.
    2. You Keep the eGift Card
The JB Hi-Fi eGift Card remains yours to keep and use. Essentially, by not returning the device, the "trade-in" turns into a "purchase" of that gift card using your own funds via the credit card charge.
    Important Deadlines and Details:
The 7-Day Rule: You generally have 7 days from the moment the eGift Card is issued to get the device to Assurant.
Condition Disputes: If you do send the device but Assurant determines it is in a different condition than described, they may offer a revised value. If you reject that revised value, they will return your device to you, but they will still charge your card for the full eGift Card value (since you have already received the credit).
Lost or Stolen Devices: If the device you return is found to be reported lost or stolen, Assurant will not honor the trade-in, will likely hand the device over to the police, and will charge your card for the full value of the eGift Card.
In summary: If you decide not to send the device, your bank account or credit card will be charged the exact amount of the gift card you were given, effectively canceling out the financial benefit of the trade-in.

    • +1

The 7 days to return is what was stated on the Deal,
but I received and email yesterday after Buying my phone Thursday (5th) in the evening
      and it states.

Thank you for choosing JB Hi-Fi trade-in powered by Assurant. We’ve prepared the Australia Post shipping label and we’re now ready to receive your device.

Your device must be returned by 26/3/2026.

Which is about 3 weeks since I did the trade

    • +1

What if you just select a phone, any phone, and then at the last question say that it’s locked. It reduces your trade-in value to $0. If you don’t send it in, you don’t get penalised. I imagine you keep the $350 credit though.

      • +1

Correct. You get penalised the trade in value and keep the $350 credit. Thats why i suggested do airpods or something low value.

      • +2

Doesn't let you go forward if the trade in value is $0

      • Trade in value has to be at least $1 to get the coupon

    • -1

      Such windy convoluted T&Cs.

    • +1

Don't think it works with other devices, has to be a phone specifically. Haven't received the bonus trade in value gift card, only the trade in value.

      • Galaxy S8 - $5. (If you dont intend on trading anything in of course)

You can put 17 random digits in for the IMEI.

    • +8

Just confirmed this trade-in offer only works with phone and not other devices.

The email containing your trade-in value gift card will be different depending on whether it's for a phone or device:

      • If you selected a phone, it will contain additional information to redeem for a bunch of different coupons, one of which is the $350 off for a Google Pixel 10 128GB (there's a separate coupons for the 256GB model and other Google 10 Pixel phones)
      • If you select any other device, you'll just receive an email for just the trade-in gift card
      • +1

Thank for doing due diligence. The T&Cs are always so convoluted and require decoding.

  • -2

I know RRP is double, but is $647 a good price? As in is an older model just as good for less?

    • +2

It was released 6 months ago.

    • +3

$647 is a great price. I daily this phone and I'm very happy.

  • Is there a minimum trade in requirement? Can I trade in an old Samsung A series or something?

    • I got A20 which I can trade in

      • Doesn't show A20, but it does show mine as $0 trade in, so I believe I can trade it in for the $350 credit offer and get $0 value for it.

$445 for an iPhone 15… Their actual values suck, but the $0 value ones just to get the $350 credit are worth I guess.

        • What happens if you fail to send the A20, do they charge you $0 or more? Otherwise everyone would do it to get the trade-in value?

          • @nulled: Not actually sure, haven’t checked terms

        • Might get more than the $350 + trade in value selling to mobile monster or mobile guru.

          • @krouton24: Yeah for a decent phone it’s not worth, for an older model that they give $0 for it’s likely worth it. Elsewhere might give maybe $100 for some of the older models, if even.

    • +1

      I think $1

  • I ordered the pixel 9 pro xl from the mobileciti deal (although it hasn't arrived yet!). With the trade-in bonus, this would be cheaper. Seems a better option? Thoughts?

    • +2

9 pro xl has a bigger screen and better specs (other then CPU), 10 is newer and is good enough for me.

Really depends on what you are looking for in a phone.

    • +2

Meanwhile there are some of us regretting missing out on the pink 9 pro xl deal

      • Send me a message if you want, maybe we can work something out!

  • -1

Does anyone know what happens to the 350 off trade in bonus discount if you decide not to trade in either by not sending the phone in or by informing them you cannot send the phone in for whatever reason. Will they charge you the 350 on your payment method or do you still just get the 350 off despite not actually trading in your phone?

    • +1

      check comments above

    • +1

Every time these deal go up there is so much that I just can't understand. I don't know if it's me, or if it's the way people explain things, but I am so confused every time.

As far as I can gather:

      A) the 350 coupon is supplied by JB for PHONE trade-ins only: "Trade-in any PHONE for an instant JB-HiFi eGift card!" and

      B) If you do not send the item, the trade-in company Assurant will charge you back the full coupon amount given to you: "If Assurant does not receive your device within 7 days, your credit or debit card will be charged for the value of the JB Hi-Fi eGift Card provided."

Can somebody chime in and tell me how this isn't going to charge you back 350 + phone value?

      • So my understanding is after purchasing the pixel today,

I received a pre authorisation on my card for my trade in device $5
Now I received a JB-HI-Fi gift card to contribute that to the cost of the JBHifi cost $997. Whilst in the Assurant website there was an additional coupon that had to be activated, once activated I received like a seperate coupon that would be added to the transaction.

Now according to Assurant terms and conditions if a person doesn't supply the trade in device they can keep the pre authorisation gift card, so in my case if I don't return $5 . If you had a $300 trade in then they could keep that if you didn't return.

      • Why you say "trade in any phone " ? It only allows certain models and brand… isn't it ?

        • I am quoting the website, hence the quotes. it says "Trade-in# any phone" right there at the link. Obviously it's not "ANY" phone but I am not the designer of the website.

    • Why would you do a trade and not send your trade in?

      • Because for some people the value of the trade in is not worth it as much as, for example, private resale. It's the same issue with car sales trade-in, they will offer something like half the value of a private sale because they need to pay their overheads with the re-sale, unlike yourself. It's an issue of convenience vs. pure value, and since you're on OzBargain you're looking at a crowd of those who want the latter.

My phone is only showing $60 of trade-in value, but I'll get more use out of it as a flexible touch screen device / IP webcam, or potentially a second phone for business purposes.

I'm looking for any good deal as an excuse to upgrade my Pixel 9 Pro XL but when you compare the 10 with mine it's basically exactly the same. Even for $180 I can't see how it's worthwhile.

    • +2

Because it's not an upgrade. This is the 10, not 10 pro. And even for the 10 pro it wouldn't worth the upgrade.
You better keep your 9 pro XL

    • +1

With the 10 series, they've downgraded the main camera sensor, so it will be a major downgrade.

  • Is 7 pro to this worth it? Comparing mostly for daily use and photos.

Get about $225 for trade in value of 7 Pro

    • I'm in the same boat but have decided to hold on to the 7 Pro. It's just doing everything I want it to and doesn't have any performance degradation. Can't see the point in upgrading yet.

      • +1

7 pro will stop getting security updates after Oct 2027.

Was looking earlier and found these reasons to upgrade

Key Differences: Pixel 7 Pro vs. Pixel 10
Processor & Performance: The Pixel 10 uses the Tensor G5, which provides a massive jump in speed, efficiency, and less heating compared to the Tensor G2 in the 7 Pro.
Display: The Pixel 10 features a flat OLED display with 3000 nits peak brightness, whereas the 7 Pro uses a curved display with lower peak brightness (approx. 1500 nits).
Battery: The Pixel 10 boasts improved, more stable battery life due to the efficient G5 chip and larger capacity, reducing the issues often found on the 7 Pro.
Camera: The Pixel 10 introduces improved, upgraded sensors, including a 48MP ultrawide and 5x telephoto, often resulting in better low-light performance and sharper, more consistent images.
Build & Biometrics: The Pixel 10 has a flat-edged, modern design with a faster ultrasonic fingerprint sensor compared to the 7 Pro’s optical sensor and curved screen.
Software Support: The Pixel 10 offers significantly longer, multi-year software support updates compared to the 7 Pro

    • So many nonsense ai summaries.

Pixel 10 has a downgraded main camera and all three cameras are likely worse than the 7 Pro if that's a consideration

  • S24 plus vs this? Camera on the s24 is crap (sometimes leaves weird marks, confirmed it's an issue with my phone, so looking to replace)

Also partner has a standard s24? Would this be better than that?

    • I’m currently using the Pixel 8a, and the camera is pretty good, so I imagine the Pixel 10’s camera would be even better. However I still find it a bit difficult switching from Samsung to Pixel. I moved from the S21 to the Pixel 8a about 18 months ago and now I’m considering switching back to the Samsung S26. I think the camera might be better and I also prefer Samsung’s interface.

    • Does it take long for them to send you the trade in bonus coupon? I have requested for a while and still waiting

      • Took minutes for me. Maybe check your spam folder, or make sure you have the right email address.

        • i've done my order 30mins ago, clicked on the bonus coupon…25mins ago they said it'll be sent shortly…still waiting…. ummm

        • +2

Oddly, they sent other coupons but not the $350 for pixel 10

          • +1

            @StarV: Still no coupon. 10 hours now…

            • +1

@pernder: They won't send you the coupon. When you get your trade-in gift card there is a link to choose which "coupon" you want, separate from the trade-in process.

              • +2

@bajillionaire: Thanks for helping. The issue is that the p10 coupon isn't being sent after selecting it from the link they provide. We have had success for the other coupons i.e. p10 pro, but just not the base p10 for whatever reason.

I cancelled trade in and retried online a few times, but looks like I'll have to face the big brave world and do it in store today :D

              • @bajillionaire: They are meant to email the coupon though? I got the trade in but clicked on the $400 off for the Pixel 10 256GB but no email with the coupon code was sent.

                • @pointnlarf: Yes, sorry. I meant they won't send you the coupon automatically from just doing the trade-in. You have to do what you did, the extra step. But sounds like some fault happened when you tried. FYI I did mine late last night too, about 1030pm and my coupon arrived very quickly, same coupon as you are waiting on.

                  • +3

@bajillionaire: UPDATE: In store staff can't help much as its a third party who deal with the trade ins. However the tradein support line (1300 943 411) were able to promptly provide the coupon. They admitted they have been having some issues with the P10 coupons. Suggest if anyone is having the same problem to give them a call.

      • I contacted Assurant and informed them that I had not received the coupon. They emailing me the coupon code and mentioned that their system was experiencing an issue.
