I have a few and be aware they are very small

    • +21

And much larger than the standard foldable umbrella when collapsed

      • +1

What is meant to be the advantage of these then?

        • +6

They'll never know you shop at Bunnings

    • +11

can confirm that the canopy is small and its massive when folded up. actually went back to carrying a metro classic because of it lol

      • I'm a bit surprised by this. I have one (at least I think it's the same model) and if anything it's slightly bigger I'd say than any typical mini umbrella you might buy at a pharmacy or convenience store in an emergency?

Built like a brick shithouse though. Would probably lose it before it breaks in any way.

    • small enough to fit into my bum bag?

    • +1

The first time I used one, it was the day my work gifted me one. It was a windy thunderstorm, below my kneecaps got drenched and the umbrella blew inside out 7 times. The rest of me was completely dry though.

Still going strong 3 years later. Packs away nicely and can fit 2 people.

  • +7

Thx, I ordered two which gives you free delivery (over $100) and the 15% off code takes it to $63.75 each including delivery. I reckon the Topo black and white pattern is ok.

    • +2

Is the $1.43 cheapie in the room with us?

      • It's $1.43 with the welcome deal for new shoppers. If that's what you're asking.

        • Gotcha, was signed into my account. Sounds like the welcome deal goes pretty hard these days because they're all $17-$20 on my app. I'm pretty I used my welcome deal to save like $3 when I first used Ali lol.

    • +14

You might go through 2 of the cheapies in a single storm. I've never had a cheap umbrella survive any sort of wind.

I had one of these years ago until I lent it to someone and never got it back. I suspect it actually would last 26 years - it lasted me 13 years with no signs of wear at all.

      • +5

Bring back the OzBargain favourite, the Woodworm umbrella! The only reason I ever bought more than one is my wife kept losing them by leaving them places.

    • +4

Thats all well and good but when youre an hour out from getting home and your cheap umbrella breaks in a storm youre not going to be very focused on the small amount of money saved.

    • +1

This reminds me of when I lived with my parents, everytime it rains, rummaging through the dozen 5-10$ umbrellas looking for an unbroken one

    • +2

But at the end of the day you'll be spending 26 years with a piece of sh#t Aliexpress umbrella.

Most people appreciate a well built umbrella, you use it during relatively uncomfortable circumstances (getting caught out in the rain), and there is value in having something robust and reliable to use during those moments.

My first comment got negged to death to hide the real bargain from people not logged in. So here it is again…
$1.43 cheapie from Aliexpress. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008205050113.html You can get 52 of these for the same price as the overpriced umbrella up the top.

Ordered one for click and collect, been hearing great things about Blunt, keen to finally see for myself.
Also really liking the black topographic map style available, big plus for me
    Thanks for sharing OP!

    • +6

      You won't regret it

  • +3

These blunt umbrellas should be legally required for short people in the city

    • why is that? shortie here myself

      • +7

        These umbrellas have rounded corners

        • thanks! I didnt realise and I quickly looked at my own whew

      • +3

        It’s in the name!

      • +2

Ever been poked in the eye by an umbrella? in CBD peak hour that can happen every 5 mins if you are over 6 ft.

  • +1

Still very expensive for an basic function

So this is one of those OzIrony posts? :)

I've had a particular Shelta brand umbrella which has been surprisingly indestructible so far, and enough coverage as a 180cm guy.

    I'm pretty sure it wouldn't cost $75 :P

    • I think so..just like the silly heavy bulky colourful waterbottles whereas light, reusable $2 one is just as functional (if not, more).

These blunt umbrellas are strong because they're bulky and popularly because it's fashionable.

      • +3

its because once you can afford it, the convenience is worth it

doesnt get wind blown, never had one break,

Same with things like Hermann Miller Chair,

  • +1

Why is this super expensive? I have bought $10-$15 xiaomi umbrella before and quality is great.

    • Any link to recommend? :)

    • +1

The 12 Bone Mi folded ones are great
Only complaint would be how hard you need to pull the retract the umbrella

Would get more of it if there was another deal

  • +7

I have this umbrella and can’t recommend it. The canopy is tiny, particularly given it’s size and bulk when folded. And not the best quality - the knob in the middle top of the umbrella that holds the material canopy together just fell off one day, so now it leaks and looks crap

    • Have you reached out to Blunt customer service to see whether they can send out a replacement knob/cap?

    • +2

Contact CS, they'll sort you out in most cases

    • +1

We had two metros replaced for similar reasons. One was 5 years old and the other 7 years old. We posted them in (pretty sure they paid for postage) and they sent us replacements.

    • 385g for 100cm diameter and 37.5cm closed length, surely that's not right? Way too heavy and long for that diameter.

After trying high quality umbrellas, I would rather get an ultralight umbrella which fits easily inside a sling and weighs barely anything. You'll never be caught without an umbrella.

      • Sadly, it's accurate. What makes it so strong is that it has one less fold than most compact umbrellas, but it's longer because of that, and the materials are thicker and stronger, hence weighing more.

This is also remarkably small so expect your legs to get pretty wet. But it stays up in strong winds, which no other cheap umbrella I've ever had could manage (and most of the time I need an umbrella is when it's also windy). If my bag can fit it, I'd rather have this smaller, heavier one any day.

    • "BLUNT Umbrellas are designed to be repairable."

looks like they have an "At Home" option with repair guides if you wanted to fix it yourself.
Or as others have said below, customer service may repair for free if you send it in.

Why are there so many upvotes? Is this umbrella part of OzBargain membership or something

    • +18

Yes it's part of the OzBargain uniform:
      * Macpac Halo Down Jacket
      * Uniqlo chinos
      * Bostanten belt
      * RM Williams boots
      * Blunt umbrella

      • +5

        And my axe!

      • You are close to spot on, just have to switch the RM's for Adidas Ultraboosts and then you've got it

  • +1

Thanks! My previous black one lasted over 10 years. The quality is the best.

    • How long has your current one lasted?

I find recommendations based on something lasting for 7+ years aren't often useful because enshitification has occurred in the interim and the current batch will be significantly lower quality.

      • My cuurent one lasted 10 years and it still looks like brand new. I purchased it again because my parents lost it a few days ago.

  • +1

I've had mine for 4 years and counting, still good as new

  • +2

For my "one good" buy-for-life umbrella, I carry Komiya Shoten.

    • This is nice but prettt expensive … would it be cheaper to find this in Japan at a cheaper price? Got a friend going there next month 😅

      • Absolutely. The JPY exchange rate is pants, plus duty free means up to 40% off.

  • Shame about the awful K. on it

  • have my blunt umbrellas for 10 years and they're still good as new

  • +2

Korjo Umbrella Windproof is 1/3 the price. Automatic open and close. Not the best ever but a win at $25

  • OP
    Unable to find @ Myer.
    Do you have a link?

  • +1

First I've heard of this umbrella. I came here to see what's so good about it to warrant such a price.

So it seems it's too big when folded, and too small to be useful, but the good thing is it will last forever.

  • +2

Echoing what others are saying. It’s a small coverage area and is bulky when folded.

One thing that many people don’t think about though is needing to leave it at the front of a store/business or whatever when it’s wet. Potentially losing an expensive umbrella is an anxiety I didn’t need.

As an owner, I wouldn’t recommend them.

    • I set a reminder on my phone to get my umbrella after x time so I don’t forget it. Some also have a pocket to add an AirTag or similar tracker

    • They come with a sleeve. You can temporarily store it inside if you're so worried.

  • for an basic?

  • Much prefer the Blunt classic over the metro. The Metro feels much less sturdy compared to the classic

  • 75 dollarydoos seems steep for an umbrella I can get one at aldi for $20 or so.

  • +2

25% off at Kikki K at the moment, comes down to $56.25.
    In store only.
Picked up an orange and lavender one this morning (SA Rundle Mall), about 6 left on the shelves

    • +1

Prices have really come off since I initially posted.
