Was looking to use my points on something, so this became the something. Thanks OP!

    LOL at built in subwoofer.
    55Hz-20kHz (-10dB)
That literally means right there it desperately needs a subwoofer

    • +12

This is a replacement for built-in TV speakers, not for a proper home theatre system.

      • …and as that it is great. A built in subwoofer it is not. Notice the -10dB at 55Hz? The standard is -3dB. This must be getting close to false advertising

        • +2

Any better recommendations in the $109 range?

        • f10 is a commonly used for just this, how on earth is that false advertising lmao. It would be false advertising if the response was listed without the metric.

Anyway, this does put the f3 around 75hz roughly which is awful.

          • @tetsuma: subwoofer means it is meant to play below a woofer no? That is the bit I have a problem with.

  • Should be awesome for listening to songs.

Have had this for a year now and happy with it for a basic sound bar that's better than inbuilt speakers. I paid $138 at the time through Good Guys Commercial delivered.

    • +4

Second this. Also bought from that same deal and this is a great entry level subwoofer with HDMI ARC. Can't complain for that price.

    • +1

I paid $120 a bit before Christmas, I had been eying it off for close to a year prior (lots of stores reduced it to $99-$149 the previous year, then it vanished as a clearance/deleted item in June… reappeared in September.

At first I thought some of the reviews were wrong about it being good value for money. As my Samsung built in speakers seemed better (reached the same-ish volume level as the JBL). Then I read about the different settings…made the world of differnce and I have the tv set to use the soundbar virtually all of the time now. Its a great little engine that could.

People won't realize how good this is for the price. The dedicated center channel for dialogue means no more loud action and quiet talking.

    • +1

IMO anything with less than 3.1 shouldn’t be allowed to be marketed as a soundbar.

      • How much does a decent 3.1 soundbar go for?
Which brands/models are worth looking at (and avoiding)?

        • -1

Not sure sorry. I’m really not a fan of soundbars in general and don’t keep up with them. But if I was to buy one it would need to be at least 3.1 otherwise it’s just stereo.

Next would be two rear speakers. But at that point just buy a real surround sound system.

        • Pc 2.1 speakers were usually good imo. Don't know how good they'd be with a TV though.

    • If you set your output to stereo, this doesn't happen.. (I'm running a 2.1 set up with an AV amp, but I know some/most TVs can change audio outputs)

    • That has nothing to do with it.
Set the dynamic range of your tv/appliance/washing machine to low and it'll crush the loudest sounds down and bring the quiet ones up. A center channel at worst gives you less output with dialog as one channel has less efficiency than two channels combined, and at best a slight increase in overall volume.

  • Sites seems to be semi down or item is out of stock, error when trying to check out.

  • +3

Used points to bring it down to $70

  • +1

What a headache to setup a telstra account but finally ordered. Thanks OP!

  • +2

    Ordered - Cheers.

Scooped up a Samsung 65" QN70F NEO QLED last week on a price match from the good guys for $1400. Should pair nicely.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Ordered one as an upgrade to my TV speakers. Used my Telstra points and got it down to $25.

  • Only get this for a small room/apartment, it's not powerful enough for a large space.

    • +2

Compared to the internal tv speakers surely it's better regardless.

      • I have a c7k TCL and the treble on this sound bar is slightly worse than the inbuilt.
Everything else about it is better though.

For the price right now, it's worth getting. At RRP, not even worth the improvement imo, but obviously depends on what your TV sounds like

        • My old TV broke a few months ago so the spare knockaround Soniq got shifted into the main room. We got used to how awful it is.

The sound on the Samsung just purchased is night and day but if the soundbar here isn't much better then I'll just put it on the old Soniq or just use it somewhere else for music.

          For $100 worth the punt

  • +1

Ordered, thanks! Given the price sound quality expectations aren't overly high, but reviews seem promising enough.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Had Telstra points I didn't even know as haven't used Telstra for years! $53 after points!

  • +1

Wow killer deal, redeemed my remaining points to take another $20 off!

  • +2

    I got the JBL 500Mk2, with a beast 10" subwoofer … it's absolutely brilliant.

  • -1

Can this be pricebeated by OW ?

    • +2

Usually no, as you need 'membership' from telstra.

    • +1

I tried both JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks and neither were accepted as you have to have a telstra account. Didn't really bother me as its still a great price with free delivery

  • +2

bought it to go with my TCL C7K

  • +1

Thanks OP bought to improve sound for a spare room TV!

  • +1

    Thanks OP ordered one too

  • +1

Awesome deal OP, thanks! Ordered 2 for each of my bedroom TV’s. For this price how do you go wrong?

  • +1

Thanks OP, used my expiring points to pay for it

  • Wow, my purchase had been blocked by Control Group. It's been a long time since I last used Telstra and now I am required to visit a Telstra shop to get it unblocked.

  • +1

    Bummer..
Apparently you can redeem your Telstra points ONLY if you're on their Post-paid service.

  • +1

Thinking of getting this as a gift for my bro and his mrs bday's which are in the same month. Seems like a good little device.

  • +1

Thanks, used points and got it down to $0. Fingers crossed this resolves the dialogue frustrations.

  • How would this go against the TCL C7K Bang and Olufsen speakers?

  • -4

I use mine (JBL500mkII) with a C7k. It's no contest. Particularly when something is encoded with dts - very cinematic and room filling.

    • +1

That soundbar is not even close to the price of this one? 5.1ch vs 3.1ch and a seperate subwoofer.

  • … what does Sh*t me is getting the hdmi-cec between the JBL, TCL and Nvidia Shield Pro to all play nicely when I turn on the Shield …

  • +2

make a nice improvement over TV speakers

Whilst definitely better than TV speakers for music or sound effects in movies, I actually find cheap soundbars are often worse for dialogue - sounds muffled and the strong "smiley curve" EQ with suppressed mids make voice very difficult to listen to.

    • I agree, not all cheap soundbars are better than the TV speakers.

  • +1

Ordered, paid $45 after using points. Fingers crossed it does the job.

  • +1

Thanks OP, still have 67,400pts left after redemption.. Noice

  • +2

Bought this for the family TV so I can watch shows once everyone has gone to bed. I hate headphones cos I can hear my heartbeat, and I jump ten miles if one of the kids comes out of bed to use the toilet. The voice feature is excellent so I can actually hear voices without having to crank the volume and get a text from the mrs to turn it down when regular noise kicks in.

  • +1

    snatch one, thank you!

  • +1

Thanks OP. Bought one for $80 after using my wife points from when she was with Telstra

  • +1

Can I combine it with TV speakers?

    • +1

It may be TV dependent, I use the ARC via HDMI.
But you might be able to use both via optical cable.
Honestly though, this sounds so much better than my TCL 55" speakers.

      • +1

I got an old soundbar from Kogan and it sounds mono from a single point. I end up using my TV speakers til now. My TV is TCL mini led. Only music makes significantly different.

  • +1

bought late yesterday and already out for delivery, bravo telstra

  • +1

Ordered yesterday and delivered just now. Annoying they didn’t attempt to conceal the soundbar. It was literally delivered as is with the shipping label slapped on the retail box.

    • Mine came packed in a bigger brown box. Maybe they ran out of packaging from being ozbargain'd.

  • +3

    Received mine.

This things amazing for $95 wow

  • +3

Arrived today. Mounted on the wall. First soundbar. Definitely sounds much better than stock The Frame speakers! Not bhed for $95 delivered!

    • Was it easy to wall mount? Does it come with a mounting kit?

      • +1

Yes it comes with the mounting kits. Easy, just a few holes on the wall

  • +1

Thanks! Grabbed one to replace my nearly 10 yo Bose SoundLink mini ii as my desktop speaker!

  • +1

Got mine delivered yesterday. Box was damaged, and the soundbar had cracks and was damaged as well.

Luckily I took photos of the box before opening it. I got onto their Live Chat and have been told to wait 24-48 hours for their "dedicated team" to get back to me.

  • +1

Received mine yesterday and set up straight away. So much better than the TCL speakers.

  • +1

Received within a couple days and is a great upgrade on TV speakers

  • +2

Seems like I'm the only person who has been a bit disappointed. I'm not an audio guy but the centre channel speaker feels muffled or muddy with vocals. I normally run TVs on voice mode as I don't like the clarity of standard modes. Even still I'm not impressed but maybe something wrong with my ears. The bass is good though (compared to tv speakers).

  • Anyone have an issue with no sound randomly when using HDMI? TV supports HDMI arc (hisense). optical cable works fine though

    • Not so much randomly, but it took HOURS for my Samsung tv to work with the speaker, tried everything - can't remember what made them both "work" with each other (tv on first before speaker or vice versa) but I haven't had issues since.

  • How is everyone earning telstra points to use in this deal?

  • I have this. I think it sounds pretty sht. I got it because of the reasonably good reviews.
