  • What's Vietnam like in June weather wise?

    • +7

      Hot

    • +9

VNese here, honestly OK to do late May early June, don't go later than middle June & July, starting of rainy season (you literally will have only 1/2 day enjoying the place). The above calendar only makes sense ends around late Oct-Nov

      • Thank you!

      • -2

What do you mean 1/2 day? It rains for exactly 1/2 a day every day?

        • yeah, rain every day during the week, and at least 1/2 a day - usually in the afternoon.

        • makes sense. victorian weather does the same, but cold

  • -3

The bargains are departing very late at night unfortunately.

    • +9

it's Vietjet - the budget airlines, that's the only timeframe they can afford :D

    • +13

What do you expect? Depart late.. arrive at a good time. Depart at a good time, arrive late…

      • -4

Would rather arrive late and try not to sleep on a plane overnight.

        • +4

So go Jetstar over, Vietjet back. Still extremely cheap.

          Username should be adventuremin

    • +2

to be fair, with vietjet the advertised time is just a loose guideline and generally not the actual departure time :)

(my 7am flight departed at 11:50pm)

  • +1

What's the likelihood of the flight getting cancelled?

    • +1

What do you mean? If the fuel runs out?

      • +6

If the feul runs out, the flight wasn't cancelled

        • +1

That all depends on exactly when the fuel runs out

  • +1

Mobile website is crap. Pop up advertisement covers half the screen. Better to check in vietjet website directly.

The customer service of VietJiet is very good. The website is riddled with errors. I have a flight in 2 weeks from Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh which I booked directly on their website rather than a third party thinking it will be better, even though slightly expenses. But I was wrong.

I want to cancel my ticket due to change of plans. The ticket conditions allow for that albeit with a cancellation fees. I have emailed them multiple times and submitted the cancellation form twice and every time I get a email back saying it's rejected without any reason. It's an automated response, without any info on why I can't cancel my ticket, when clearly I can. I got the flex version.

The customer service is non existent. yes I know its low budget airline but some things like cancelling my flight should be straight forward.

    • Send them a message via Facebook. I had query when I booked tickets as I could not add rewards. Think I got a reply within a day

    • +8

Think you forgot a word there in your first sentence =)

      • Ah yeah, late night reply after a long day :)

    • I concur that the website (and even app) aren't designed well.

Mum and Dad have got a one way flight to Ho Chi Minh coming up with VietJet. Dad had no issues getting himself up and running with sites like Booking.com, Trip.com, Scoot, or Jetstar… VietJet though needed my handholding to set up the login so he could book flights.

Login interface on the app isn't designed well either. The first option it gives you is to enter your reservation number and name but this only brings up flight details and doesn't keep you logged in the next time you open the app. For the login to be permanent, you need to click login, then the next page to enter your mobile number and a 6 digit code… it looked like we were meant to receive an SMS OTP but they were asking for a code we had previously set up when creating an account on the PC.

Then there's bringing up the QR code in the app for check in… you need to download your itinerary as a pdf. There's no way to display it in the app.

Very frustrating designs (but maybe I'm more sensitive to GUI designs… did an ICT project in my last year of undergrad and my role was project manager and interface testing and have been a stickler for logical GUIs since then). At least the information is all there… just not obvious though.

On the plus side, they're one of the few to offer late night flights that work for my folks.

    • There is an email you have to contact for people in Australia, found it through an automated phone recording. I had to have my name corrected my VietJet flight and it only cost me $7 to fix. They were pretty prompt too, responded in 1-2 days.

  • How's the Dental tourism here compared to Thailand?

    • +9

Remove 4 wisdom teeth and get 5th one out for free. Sounds like a pretty deal to me

Is it safe to book a flight through a 3rd party like trip.com and stuff?

I have always booked through the airline but i think the prices aren’t as cheap as how much the 3rd parties are offering. I have read online that booking through a 3rd party is dodgy because if something happens to your flight, most likely you won’t be able to protest it or anything because the airline didn’t sell you the tickets.

I’m curious if anyone has actually followed through with these flight deals and booked a flight through a 3rd party site and had a good experience with their flight.

    • +5

Trip.com is good, very good actually

    • Aggregators are genenally not great if you are booking low cost airlines and want luggage (which costs extra). Vietjet has a very cheap fare bundle, typically around $10 extra, that includes luggage, seat selection (including exit row) and a meal - this can only be booked through their website AFAIK.

    • +2

      Trip.com support is good.
One time my flight got cancelled, Trip.com reached out to me before the airline did. They offered promptly support with refund options or rebook another flight at no extra cost. I only needed to send them a message.

    • Trip.com is excellent. I always try to book with them. Had to cancel a flight 4 hours before departure due to medical emergency - no fee - money returned in 24 hours. Recently had to cancel Qatar flight due to USA/Israeli terrorist activity and response in the middle east, again no charge, and money returned in 48 hours.

And they have status levels, not too hard to get to a level with free lounge passes, etc.

Compare that to Qaint Ass cutting off Qclub access to Jetstar members.
And Omio - I'll never book via them again - refunds during covid were via voucher or a long involved process to get cash - plus booking thru them is often 10% more expensive than directly via provider - so search with them, book direct.

  • Anyone tried Vietjet Skyboss?

Is it worth it and do you get extra leg room seats?

    • +2

Don't bother IMO - you can get exit row seats for free with the Deluxe package, along with food and baggage - and it costs hardly anything. Skyboss is a rip off from everything I've seen.

      • +1

        Thanks, will book Deluxe then.

  • Let me guess, perfect miss for school holidays from Perth right?

  • i cant find any dates from brisbane? Is it on skycanner or google flights so its easier to find.

  • Great price as always with VietJetAir but set your expectations accordingly. It's as budget as budget gets, sardine can type flight. High chance of coughing aunties and uncles giving you a guarantee you start your trip off with a 5 day flu.

Departing AUS is largely fine, always a late night flight and often a touch late. Departing Vietnam is a hellish experience, but that's less the airline and more the airport at Saigon, especially customs. Get there early, and I mean early….or chuck some VND in your passport and swallow your morals.

Those buying Priority Check-In / or using Deluxe tickets. Be warned this only really applies leaving AUS. Priority Check-In is not a thing on the Saigon side.
