  • "All flights listed below are on wide-body aircraft"
Is there a benefit of this?

    • +9

Oh yes! You don't wanna be stuck in a narrow fuselage for more than 2 to 3 hours.

Bigger planes have more toilets. If someone or something like a service cart is blocking one aisle you can still use the other aisle. More toilets means more redundancy and lower chances of a flight being cancelled or diverted when multiple toilets gets blocked/INOP.

The toilet area in the middle of the economy cabin is a popular space to stand and move around to prevent DVT.

Bigger planes configured for long haul generally have better seat pitch in economy.

Bigger planes have bigger wings and more powerful engines. They can cruise higher and faster than narrowbodies translating to shorter and more stable flights with more options to fly above turbulence or facetank it like an A380.

    • remember if you have velocity membership don't forget to put you member ship number in during booking to claim points.

    • yeah you won't get good business class rates during this date. Good if you like economy though.

Fly more and you will know

    • Yes, it's a huge benefit. More overhead baggage space, and if you like an aisle seat, far greater ratio of available aisle seats.

A larger aircraft is less affected by turbulence than a smaller 737/A320 too.

    • Sure! You're a bigger target when flying over the Middle East.

Bro really said using Turkish Airlines will escape the war zone area! Geopolitik guru here.

      • -1

I mean, did anyone really predict that UAE & Qatar would be hit? No crystal balls here.

        • +1

Yeah, just like nobody predicted that Turkyie would be hit and then that happened.

    • +2

I am on EVA via Taipei in a few weeks to Italy, and the asian airlines do have longer flight and travel times compared to Singapore. Only the Middle East airlines are as quick as SQ and I would not be booking anything through the Middle East at the moment. My preference is for Singapore Air due to its political stability, shorter travel times and nicer stopover. Just IMHO.

Over the last 25 years I have flown ~30x to Europe and flown multiple times with Emirates via Dubai, Etihad via Abu Dhabi, Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong, Turkish via Bali/Istanbul, Malaysian via Kuala Lumpur and others due to price.

Singapore airline seems to be the most consistent airline regarding overall service, fast transit and the quality of the airport. You pay 20% more but it seems worth it. Also they don’t do the 3-4-3 seats in economy like emirates.

        • +2

Wow is your passport full of stamps?

          • +1

            @superbird: "passport full of stamps"

Many countries don't use stamp these days, has been the case for some years.

Passports only last for 10 years - effectively 9, taking out the last 6 months.

Monthly flight to Hong Kong at one stage, not a single stamp.

        • +1

Same, usually head over 2x a year if I can, and transiting through Singapore is my preferred option for a bunch of reasons. Changi is a great airport, especially with the Jewel offering so many entertaining/food options. The only drawback I find these days with Singapore is the high cost of a hotel room if you have an overnight layover which now seem to be 3x the price they were pre-covid. Even the MBS used to be <$3-400 a night, now its +$1000

        • Whilst SQ is up there. In recent times their economy has fallen a tad lower. I'd rate them behind all the Taiwanese airlines and Japanese and korean air.

JAL sets the standard globally on Economy imho and ANA are not far behind.

  • Don’t they fly out of Adelaide anymore?

  • Do they have cheap flights to Rome in mid October to mid November?

  • Seems no longer available?
