Why do you say that? elaborate please.
I am holding off waiting for 9 pro XL. It would be good to know.
tested out my wife's XL, won't fit …..in my pocket
Oh, I haven't considered that. I am still on pixel 7A. I was mainly after the bigger battery and a bigger screen since my eyesight is getting worse.
@mightywhiteoak789: easy way out is just making the text bigger, and don't forget taking the case size into account, a good tough case like spigen takes up quite a bit of your pocket
@mightywhiteoak789: Another thing to consider is XL models can be harder to use and type on one-handed, it's harder to reach everything with your thumb.
Just need bigger pocket
gain more weight, get bigger pants and bigger pocket, easy peasy…
so she can take the XL but you cant
My XL doesn't fit in my wife's pocket
is the pro worth it?
Size for pocket, and size for hands.
I have big hands and this thing is still a bit of a bear to type on.
Not much more to it. It's fine, but the regular size would've been better.
I had 9 XL and kind of hated it. The i used my daughters iPhone 15 Pro and loved the size so i ended up buying Pixel 10.
I have large hands, but it's so nice to be able to pull your phone from you pocket and keep using it with one hand. With 9 XL you almost certainly had to use both hands from time to time.
The smaller size is also more than enough to watch youtube etc.
Do the 9XL and 9 Pro share the same cameras?
Yep 9 pro and 9 pro xl have the same camera setups
Interesting. The 9 Pro XL scores higher for their cameras than the S26U on DXO
@Duece1995: Depending on how they measure it, Pixels usually come in consistently above Galaxys. In reality, cameras on Samsung flagships produce photos comparable to those from iPhones and Pixels. Most people would not be able to tell the difference, unless looked at side-by-side.
Never to 128 gb. It should bot be allowed to sell if you cannot add a memory card.
100% Agree. 256GB Should have been the standard for all mid-high end smartphone models a few years ago…
In principle; I agree; in practice; I've not really seen any issues running a 128gb phone for 3+ years. (Pixel 7). Occasionally I need to force a photos/videos (already backed up) clear from local; but thats like 1-2 times a year. But I don't download/pre download a lot of stuff to my phone (via streaming services or otherwise) so depends on the user I spose.
When I was using the Pixel 9 Pro XL, deleting a file on the phone would also wipe it from Google Cloud because sync was on. But if I turned sync off, new files wouldn’t upload at all. The whole thing behaved super weird.
@gprs22: Sync is not equal to backup. I use idrive for true backup of my phone (and seperate sync folder also).
@gprs22: I always get scared deleting shit off my phone in case something happens in the cloud. I have a homelab now, been meaning to get aroudn to setting up backups on that so I can stress less about this.
1-2 times per year seems a bit much to me. I've got a 512G and I have been piling up junks in my phone for 3 years and it still only takes up ~50%. No more storage anxiety
I have been piling up junks in my phone for 3 years
I dunno this just sounds like poor management ngl. We could all stand to pile up less junk IMO!
Still have 40GB left on my 128GB pixel 9 pro, and I know I will never hit the 128.
I guess that's what is happening, yeah.
Either people pay for google cloud storage or bigger phone storage.
I don't trust a phone as it can easily be lost/broken and be unrecoverable, so I prefer to pay for cloud.
I don't trust Google
@spy: if you dont' trust google why are you buying an android phone? you do know google created android OS right?
@kungfuman: GrapheneOS and Lineage OS work just fine and aren't phoning home to Google. Pixels have good hardware security, disabling all telemetry etc fixes the lack of trust in Google.
And AOSP though originally started by Google isn't under them anymore, it's FOSS.
I don't think any less of someone for choosing to entrust their data with Google. In turn, I don't think anyone should get a say in where I put my own data. It's just ironic Pixels can be one of the better options for privacy.
@iemoz: my point is you can't say "I don't trust google" and then buy an android device lol you are using a google device.
Ever heard of USB cable to transfer files/photos into your storage?
@RTX9090Ti: yes in the early 2000s with dial up that would be what you do. if you want to be stuck in the early 2000s then go nuts hows that zune or ipod going? still syncing it with your pc as well?
@RTX9090Ti: don't worry the people stuck in the 90s or early 2000s will die out eventually and humanty can progress in technological development again.
@kungfuman: not unless the people stuck with cloud die first and humanity can finally regain their common sense.
Every deal has someone who defends these phone manufactures who intentionally limit storage sizes to nudge you into paying a subscription. Mind boggling.
Or nudge you into using a proper backup solution? Why wouldn't you be backing up off device anyway?
@xmail: It's not an argument about a backup solution; it's an argument about Apple/Google/etc creating a situation which steers you into paying them a subscription forever.
@Nalar: vs what else? Storing all your photos on your device and nowhere else?
Maybe it is conveniently steering people into paying for their services - but they are free to use other services or buy the phone with more storage and pay the 'too lazy to backup tax'.
For people that are smart about their storage and realise a backup option is mandatory anyway, having the option to pay less for storage they don't intend to use (because it is silly to store 256gb on a thin, easily lost, client) is a welcome option.
storage size no longer matters because of cloud services, it doesn't matter any more.
Immich is the only right answer here!
I have 2TB cloud storage to go with my 512GB Pixel phone storage. So no.
I'm more than happy with paying less for a 128gb phone and am glad there is an option. I don't plan on storing anything on it that I don't backup and can retrieve, thus doesn't need to be there in the first place. People who use their easily lost/stolen/broken device for storage are perhaps the bigger issue.
Both deals are +$150 for the 256GB model for the record.
They're all guilty of it , what to do⁉️
I regret my Pixel 7 Pro for this reason. Storage is so bad.
No point of having a nice camera that the storage fills up constantly and can't really use it as a 'main phone' *(but i am) because installing all the important apps makes it pretty full too.
Damn no XL.
Does that mean after one month i can cancel it ?
Minimum cost $979, includes device cost and one renewal of your chosen plan.
Btw it is 28 days renewal life cycle that is 13 transactions a year.
just buys a As You go sim card for $15 (or even cheaper with the plan) or if you find cheaper, sign up and then buy a device without plan
Bought the As You Go plan for $15, set it up, and it didn't let me use that existing plan during phone purchase (something about not being eligible); had to upgrade to the $30/28-daay plan
Unsure if I made a mistake somewhere in the process… oh well
oh shit, seems they changed it
says to me
This service is not eligible to purchase a device.
Upgrade this service to the plan below to purchase a device.
it used to work fine, bought before a few devices being on pyag
You can cancel or transfer your number even before 28 days. The phone is unlocked. Use other SIM card is okay.
Enjoying my P9 from last deal, thanks amaysim - $500 is a steal for a premium phone.
I get shocking phone coverage from my pixel 9. Constant drop outs, or phonecalls that don't ring. Very annoying
Which provider are you with? I would be surprised if this was a phone issue
Tried 3 providers including Telstra prepaid.
Telstra pre-paid is bad. They give priority to those on postpaid plans.
Im with aldi mobile $29 plan with 5G and had no issues. I have turned off wifi calling though. Goodluck, hopefully you can fix the issue
Yeah I've recently had issues with missed calls on my P9PXL as well, super annoying.
Some things to try here but none have worked for me.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/1fzxr35/pixel_…
Regarding phone coverage are you using Wifi Calling? I had lots of drop outs until I turned off Wifi Calling.
Tried lots of things. Turned everything on and off. May just be a bad phone
Up to yesterday, JB was selling Pixel 10 for $650 with ANY trade-in. Pixel 9 for $499 is reasonable price as it is 1 generation older.
Pixel 9 has better cameras.
What? 9 has better camera than 10?!
Yes. It lacks a telephoto camera, but most people wouldn't need it. The Pixel 10 has a similar camera setup to the 9A/10A, plus a zoom lens.
10 has a third camera, compromise is its sensor sizes are smaller
Does anyone know if other stores will price match this?
No store will price match because you need amaysim service to access this deal.
How about Telstra store?
Moved from SS to pixel and hate its photo arrangement
Haha, I just moved from Pixel back to Samsung for that reason. I just didn't find the Pixel very user friendly.
Definitely move back to SS if they do a pro compact, ultra is just too big
Is it possible to buy a $10 starter pack from some store (like Coles, Woolies, 7-Eleven), activate it on my current phone and use it as my "existing" plan?
yes
Just made the purchase via a $10 SIM card.
Total: 499+10
Nice!
Where to get $10 SIM from now? Wollies or Coles or elsewhere?
@Augh: Woolies has the $25 on special for $10. Bought it yesterday and was able to purchase the phone once my account was active.
how did you do it ? give some explanation, as when i try to buy phone it gives me bigger plans above $30 only and when i only buy $10 plan it doesn't give me option to add phone so both don't work together so how did you do it ?
@SydBoy: You buy the $10 starter pack physically, then activate online (creating an account in the process)
Use this new account to buy the phone as your (now) existing plan.
@SydBoy: I bought this for $12: https://www.amaysim.com.au/mobile/cart/unlimited-32gb?storeI…
and it worked ok without having to leave the house. Just had to go through the identity verification for the account, didn't need to activate it on my phone. No need to install the app on your phone either.
Plan on trying to cancel and get a refund after I receive the phone - if I never activate it on my phone they should be ok with it.
@xmail: I did the same and today I messaged them to cancel auto renewal and once I get the phone then I will cancel it.
@xmail: No luck today, below from the live chat -
"It seems you purchased a plan first before ordering a mobile phone. That is why you are not able to buy a phone with your mobile number included, as your number is still waiting activation."
Google makes most of their phones 128gb storage only for collecting more users data via their “encrypted” Cloud Storage. I wouldn’t touch any Pixel phones.
By that logic, Apple and Samsung collect both money and data.
Apple products will be slightly better for protecting privacy. Samsung is equivalent to Huawei still up to your decision which side can spy on you.
Sounds like you're saying koare and Chinese are the same thing
$300 extra to go pro? At least gives extra storage
And another $300 for a storage upgrade. 128 is just crazy these days for that much.
mate - late reply but pro just means more power draw and screen estate you won't normally care for
I bought the XL and kinda wish I had the regular Pro. Good deal
