  • Is there are new model out soon?

    https://www.trustedreviews.com/deals/googles-tv-streamer-4k-…

    BTW

$93.10 at OW with price beat 5%…

    • +5

I hope. This is the absolute best android tv box around for everyday use (Nvidia shield is way more expensive and has its own problems and alternatives that are better imo). I'm not sure an upgrade would be needed but it would be welcomed. It would help push the price down for this.

      • i have one , use it for prime video as such and works fine, ideal would be to network attach to the drive on on my router and hence movie library, but haven’t tried that.

        • That should work.

    • Probably not, powerful enough

    • +1

OW just changed the price to $98 so no price beat, damn.

      • They saw my comment… 😔

      • +2

$10 perks better, got it for $88

  • I didn't buy this during the last deal because i was still happy with my VodaTv. 1 month later, it started giving me problems with stremio and other apps. Should have just impulse bought this last time. Will wait for additional discounts as this still seems pricey to me

    • +1

I’m using Stremio on my GTV with no issues (except for the recent problems from their side)

      • +2

Mine suddenly starts stuttering, and then it keeps playing but button presses (pause, skip, go back) take up to 20 seconds to register. I have to restart the whole unit when this happens

        • +7

There has been/still is quite a few issues with the Stremio app v1.9.x versions so could be this.

          • +2

@at9: I've had a lot of problems with Stremio recently. I am now using Kodi with the Umbrella addon and the Coco scraper for Real Debrid content. It's a solid combo and the interface is much better IMO.

            • +9

@Krakatoa: Try nuvioapp.space, a lot of people moved away from Stremio

              https://www.reddit.com/r/Nuvio/

              • +2

@superforever: Nuvio is straight heat honestly, love it

                • @TheFreaK: Yes, it is getting better and better, almost update everydays, the only problem a lot of people don't know it didn't directly support torrent, have to use debrid.

                  But it is still beta.

                  • @superforever: Never heard of it till now. Been trying to use it. Definitely not as user friendly as stremio . I'm still trying to figure out how to use my debrid account on it.

                    • +2

@pufffdragon: Login to nuvioapp.space go to addon and copy and paste Stremio addon URLs to it.

                      Very easy.

                      • @superforever: I was copying the torrentio url that is linked with the debrid api and doesn't seem to work. Not sure why. I'll keep trying. Thanks.

                        • @pufffdragon: The easier way is to use your Stremio web or Windows, go to addon, use the "Share addon" and just copy the URL to paste it into nuvioapp.space web, it will have all your debrid api.

                          • @superforever: Ok, I finally got it to work. After some singing out, stopping and refreshing, it finally came through. Thanks for the help man!

            • +1

@Krakatoa: If you like Kodi you might want to look into getting an am6b+ with a coreelec fork installed if you have a dolby vision tv as this is the only way to play dolby vision fel correctly.

        • Sometimes mine gets stuck on the splash screens. Restarting via gtv menu fixes it

      • Same. Always tempted to upgrade but no real gain. Probably should have for $57.

The new stremio app seems to produce some clipping on the top of the screen, have you noticed that.

$88 with perks and still got some GC from S25U. Will sell both the 4k for $50 each.

        • +1

The new stremio app seems to produce some clipping on the top of the screen, have you noticed that.

          No problem here

          • @superforever: Could be the stream. Seem to be new 🧲 ones that pop up first now. RD is sometimes down as well.

I tend to match frame rate not frame rate and resolution.

            • @G-Shock: A lot of issue with match frame rate, I have it off.

              Did you try nuvio?

              • @superforever: Yeah was great for the longest time but playing up a bit with new version.

Nope but will have a look 👍

                • @G-Shock: Mine, if I enable frame rate matching, screen will keep flashing trying to match it.

                  • @superforever: Usually works for me but depends on the TV/settings as well.

    • +9

That will teach you to curb your impluse.

      • +10

OzB is no place to be doing such things. A verbal warning should be issued.

      • Ozbargan is 100% impulse lol

    • +1

I had a problem with my VTV a while back and considered getting a Google TVS. As a last resort I did a complete reset on the VTV, took it back to scratch, reinstalled all the apps and crossed my fingers. Worked like a charm, no problems since. I get the urge to buy something new from time to time but it's still trucking along

      • Yeah performance wise it still works for me. The only app that leads really bad is the channel 9 app, the rest work really smoothly

      • What problems did you have with the VTV? I have a problem with the Disney+ app where it will suddenly fast forward the content and I have to stop it and rewind, and sometimes edit the app and restart it.

Like you, I was thinking of getting a Google TV streamer to replace it.

        • I would get the occasional freeze with Netflix or Stan, and some of the FTA streaming services (esp SBS). I would just back arrow and reply and it would pick it up again.
Once or twice I had to reboot it. Not seems fine now

Good time to price match with the good guys and using $80 store credit from tcl tv deal.

    • +5

It's a deal at this time, down from 160.

    • Everything gone up, won't be that price anymore

    • Post a cheaper price.

  • +13

It was $58 around on 20/12/2025. It wont be that cheap for a long time since the price of RAM and storage has increased so much this year.

Glad I bought it back then, although it's still sitting in the delivery packaging still 😂

Glad to see that you practice what you preach https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/17421142/redir

        • +1

Yep I bought, I just need to get off my back side and connect it, which means taking my tv of the wall bracket to access the HDMI port to remove my current (previous gen) Chromecast to put it in. It's a while exercise in itself, and I'm lazy 😂

      • same, I got one tested and put back in the packaging just stuck with my Firestick 4K max for now

    • +1

      Wow, that's a bargain!

I been looking for one for a past few months and set a Search Alert, I must have missed the email being close to Christmas.

    • I missed out that one while on holiday :(
Lucky I bought it today with $80 TGG store credit.

    • was even better with price beat at JB Hi Fi and $10 voucher perks

    • Is that why there are so many BNIB on marketplace?

      • Yes

    • +1

I got mine from that deal because of cheap. I think it's one of the few sweet deals throughout the year that HN offers to keep people in check, else we forget the store name.

  • +1

For those who have this, I was wondering about an issue I've been having. My GTV 4k seems to disconnect from the network while it's off/on standby. If I want to cast something to it from my phone, I have to turn it on first, then it reconnects and becomes available to cast. Does anyone else have this issue, or is there a setting somewhere I can't find?

    • -8

Mine is connected via ethernet and every now and then it drops that connection and connects to Wi-Fi, and then lags with 4K remux files. The only way to "fix" it is to unplug the ethernet cable and plug it back in, or to plug the streamer directly into the router (which is impossible in my setup). It's another Google half baked product that will be killed off sooner or later, like every other Google product, and replaced by something "new". Google has always had zero interest in resolving the issues with their hardware, they just release a new version.

So I've plugged back my 7 year old Nvidia shield and had no playback issues since.

I have 3 Streamers (2 going though 2 different ethernet switches & 1 wireless) and none of them drop out. It seems you're just unlucky, having the exact combination of tech that causes a conflict. I had a weird issue when I had an Apple TV using Aussie Broadband, Kayo & Disney wouldn't work unless I got an IP reset every month. They worked fine on 5G. The Streamer fixed that for me.

      • +1

Check your network. Mine is also connected via ethernet and never drops out, you can also switch off Wi-Fi to prevent using it.

        • Fortunately for me, my network is fine. Streamer is the only device (and 80% of my devices are wired) that has this issue. I got my old Shield out of the box and have no problems. I would say that strongly suggests issues with the streamer. I'll try switching off Wi-Fi on it as you suggest, but I'm not sure that is an actual option. I'll have to check.

      • +2

Another option I did with my OG google is plug into a Kasa smart plug and scheduled a power off / on overnight, this resolved all my weird bugs and disconnects just by forcing a reboot

        • +1

Yeah, actually had the same idea, but I opted to just plug back the old Shield rather than having yet another device (the plug) on 2.4GHz. Thanks for the suggestion though.

      • +1

and thats a reason to neg? turn off power saving mode on your switch (it's not like it uses much power anyway). There's plenty of examples of that causing issues. But you're wifi should work fine, especially on 5Ghz band. Been streaming Bloomberg 4k off the internet, over wifi for 4hrs on my G.Streamer. I watched 4k movie off plex last night no stutter/sync issues.

        • Yes, that’s reason enough for me.

The “votes” are not a “popular opinion.” They come from personal experiences, and my experience with the streamer has been bad. If I were alone in that experience, which would suggest the problem is likely in my setup, I would refrain from voting. But I’m not. There’s a post on the Google community about the exact issue (linked above), there are posts on Reddit about the streamer dropping ethernet, speed, and Wi-Fi, and even older Chromecast models had similar issues. One comment above says they schedule a smart plug to reset the streamer to "resolve bugs".

All said, I don’t know why it’s so shocking that I gave a negative vote for a device that, in my experience, isn’t reliable and isn’t worth the money, even when on sale.

      • Try adding a USB C hub with Ethernet and see if that makes a difference,
I've owned one of these since it came out and its never had issues with 4K nor dropouts

      • Hey, just following up to thank everyone who downvoted me. I guess, as it often seems, it is more about following the “popular opinion” on a deal rather than voting based on your own opinion and experience. I honestly wish the best for anyone who buys this device and hope they do not have issues. Same goes for those who already have one. I hope it continues working well for you.

    • Also have a Google Streamer via ethernet and it's not dropped out.

    • I have this same issue and have not been able to fix it. Some say it’s because the wifi network is busy around you. I went into dev settings but still couldn’t fix it.

Apparently googles latest updates created the bug

I haven’t tried switching network channels but I have two of these that disconnect which is frustrating.

    • This might be off base, but are you powering the GTV off of the TV or a dedicated power supply?

      • i thought off the TV wont have enough power and will cause a warning

        • I've powered one off of two different TV's, but the ports might turn off when the TV does so it's not very convenient!

      • Using the provided power adaptor plugged into the wall

  • -5

$55 is a good deal for this last sale

  • +1

Mine has recently started freezing up when I start episodes of something. After I restart it will play fine most the time, but even pausing can stuff it up. Not sure if it's the fault of the device or maybe something on my network, issues only started around the time I put it in the IoT VLAN.

It will either freeze up or get some weird frame rate thing happening, I turned off the frame rate sync option, but that didn't seem to help. A few times it has freezed up it has actually reset itself, which was handy because when it freezes I can't even get to settings to restart it 😅

Unrelated to the above, anyone else feel like the remote is a bit more jankier than the previous Google Chromecast remotes? Doesn't feel as solid and the ends where the top and bottom join aren't flush. Also I miss the volume buttons being on the side.

    • I’ve had my remote replaced by Google because of ghost touches. It’ll bring up menus, and go up/down by itself. Was super annoying that I stopped using it and used my phone.

    • is it local media (plex, etc) or internet (Netflix/iview,etc) ? if local it might be going out to the internet & coming back in.

      • Happens on local and also on YouTube. Haven't had it with YouTube last few days though, still getting it on Emby.

    will wait for ATL again.

    • +2

Just like fuel price, won't ATL again :(

  • +1

Is it worth the upgrade from my chromecast?

    • following

    • This is the question. Specially with a non 4k tv. I imagine this would be much faster but aside from that are their other differences worth the upgrade?

      • +1

        I don't think it's worth it for a non 4k tv.

    • Yes definitely. It's a lot faster and way better remote

  • +4

    The ultimate TV piracy device

    • Why is that?

    • What can this do?

    • Nothing to do with the device itself.

    • +1

      My mini pc says otherwise

    • +4

Why am getting downvoted piracy is a good thing

      • Agree, idk what's wrong with folks

      • Because of shield uses that still hold on to their aging device

  • +1

Parents running this in app only mode. Never gives them problems and is super simple to navigate. Makes my life easier as well as their tech support. Thanks Google for an awesome, speedy, reliable device.

    • +2

The weird quirk of app mode is that occasionally it pops up like you pressed the voice command button. it drove me spare until I discovered the cause.

      • Can you elaborate? Not really sure what you mean

  • +3

Mine has always been a bit janky - UI loads slow, sluggish transitions etc. Definitely not what I was expecting given the processor but maybe it’s just me.

    • On this device? I haven't had any of those issues

    • Are you sure this or the 4k one?

  • If you don't have paid subscriptions (i.e. no Netflix etc.) is it worth getting a TV Streamer?
I typically consume media by downloading to a laptop, and if I can bother, HDMI cable it to a TV. It's a bit of an effort, and with storage space becoming more limited and expensive, seeking some easier entertainment solutions, without feeling obliged to increase my cost of living with more subscriptions.

    • +1

We have a Google Streamer connected via ethernet with a 2007 Sony and it's great. No subscriptions.

      • What sort of things do you do with it?
