      ew thanks

Lol not sure what you're trying to say here, especially with that analogy. I promise you that your router isn't superb. It's just enough for you to not notice.

And that's fine. Target Market and all that.

          • -3

@Wonderfool: I designed WiFi networks for enterprise during construction of buildings for a living. Trust me, the ISP router is fine. Just knowing a bit about RF will yield far more advantage. It's more about don't be silly by putting it in a cupboard or behind a mirror or under a couch. That's the basics, then you can look at channels.

My point is they invented price points and new "technology" (slap an AI label on it) just to extract more money. Sure, it's better, but is it worth the price for the extra "value"? No. Applies to many things, such as TVs.

            • +1

@orangecarpet-22: That's a different argument altogether lol. Not sure why you're using routers as an example when anything beyond basic routers are either about satisfying organisation needs, or meeting building requirements.

In the topic of value, if you're paying 600 bucks for an edge lit tv, you'll get a $600 tv. It's alright, but nothing special in modern day. Mini leds tv are only 200 bucks more ATM.

TCL miniled is not much more than this, and are far better.

              • -4

@Wonderfool: I think it went over your head because I was talking about TVs, and routers were another example of a similar product (but more recent) that extracts a disproportionate amount of money for the perceived benefits, and that's my point exactly and something core to ozbargain culture.

                • @orangecarpet-22: I'm curious. How much money for a TV do you consider to be disproportionate? You paid 800 bucks for a TV as well. So it's suddenly too expensive for a TV now, despite the gigantic jump in tech?

And on that note, isn't all benefits perceived? The whole tv is literally perceived.

                  • @Wonderfool: $800 is fine. I was replying to someone saying it's edge lit, which I had to Google, is apparently a detractor. I was saying $800 is probably good value and near the point where further money spent starts to diminish in value.

I feel like I'm on a different planet. No one here is seeing that $3500 TVs are just silly, like $3000 mesh routers also on the JB HiFi website.

                    • @orangecarpet-22: Lol you are in another planet, no one is saying $3500 is the target price lol. Mini leds are a huge step up for $800. You can probably find non edge lit qleds for $600.

Using the analogy you've used, when we complained about edge lit, it's like complaining a router only has 1gbs ports. Yeah, it'll work, but it's inexpensive to upgrade for a 2.5 lol.

                • +1

@orangecarpet-22: I hear you and agree with your point. Massive diminishing returns on the user experience at a fairly early point.

I do wish TVs had better processors.

        • My near 7 year old Samsung tv was a bargain purchase, the original RRP was just under $2000. In the years since the future models of the same tv, ended up being around the same price (as with the bump up in technology, it's basically Samsungs entry level range today compared to 2019). I love snaring a bargain!

I was looking into upgrading to a Samsung OLED after being seduced by the price reductions pre and post Black Friday. From $3295 (55" model) to $1798 (and the price went up down in the surrounding months, JB currently has it for $1997). It's a great tv, but I'm not as swayed by the OLED tech when it's suspect (potentially breaking down within 3-5 years… while my current tv is still kicking on (with only 2 years of use in those near 7 years) - and might even last another 10+ years before it dies.

        • Yep, RRPs are set by what the market can bear, rather than how much the technology costs to bring to the market (all though that will set a lower bound). I would say that value is in the eye of the beholder though. If you are loaded, you might not care about dropping a few $k for a feature.

      • Well when thaat time comes I'll have to research for the best model that suits my needs.

  • +3

I have never been able to understand Samsung's TV range. It's always a super long string of letters & numbers and sometimes some random word that is somehow always completely different to every other Samsung TV I see on Ozbargain.

    • +1

      "FAAWXXY" you can pronounce though!

I have my eye on the TCL C7K, but out of curiosity, can anyone from personal experience fact check or verify if Gemini is correct with its comparison?

Comparing the TCL C7K to the Samsung Q7F (2025 model) is a classic battle of "Premium Hardware" vs. "Brand Ecosystem."

While the Samsung Q7F is a well-built TV, for your specific goals (Golf and Soccer in a bright room), the TCL C7K is actually the more powerful machine by a significant margin.

I'm hoping the TCL hits the $1100 mark soon…

    • +1

TCL C7K and C8K are fantastic TV's and both superior to this. I have one of each and for the price, they are easily the best TV's I have owned.

    • +1

C7K can be had for ~$950

I guess it’s worth it for better tech and longer warranty

        • +1

TCL is a 3 year warranty.

For the specs on this Samsung it is a decent price but the 1 year warranty isn't great. If you need a 55 inch tv now it is worth buying it.
If not its worth waiting for TCL to clear last year models.

Outside of the standard warranty I wouldn't be holding my breath. Also were does it say 10 years burn out on QLED panel warranty?

            • @mickyb80: Mate have you ever done a warranty claim with Hisense?

Although not a tv l have recently tried to claim warranty on a brand new washing machine with Hisense. I can not recommend their Australian consumer service. Also some of the clauses in the warranty is straight up questionable. For example warranty is void if you give, share or rent the washing machines.

If Hisense can't even sorted out a brand new machine how exactly can l trust them to support me during a 3 year warranty period?

Doesn't matter how good a products is if the warranty and customer service is terrible.

                • @mickyb80: They might have better customer service for TV but for washing machine terrible.

The repairer was waiting on Hisense on parts before inspection. Hisense was waiting on inspection before parts.

At least for washing machines the repair technician are outsourced to third parties.

I am all for manufacturer to inspect units but when they drag out warranty period because they don't talk to each other that is an issue particularly if its a new unit.

Warranty does not extend if they replace your unit for free by the manufacturer. However, if the retailer replaces the unit the warranty starts from date of supply. I originally asked for this at the start considering it was a lemon on delivery. You see how happy you would be to have a lemon washing machine for 2 months because the repairer and manufacturer can't talk to each other. Any escalation of customer service is only done via email. So the call centre is a waste of time. A supervisor can decide to help you but under no circumstances can you speak to them. In fact l got told in the same phone call supervisor made this decision but now there no supervisor.

It took 3 calls to get a inspection order. How exactly can l explained the unit is broken. Orginally it was a 2 week wait for inspection due to a lack of spare parts. It extended out to 4 weeks then 2 months.

      • Looking through the previous deals the ATL I could find was $999 at Costco in the middle of last year. Can you please enlighten me as to how I might find it for $950?

The only Samsung tv better than the TCL is their QD OLEDs. They have given up on LCD. TCL especially the C8K (with the C7K not being too far behind) is amazing value for the picture you get, compared to the others. Don't bother looking at Samsung.

TCL has much more dimming zones with a full array backlight on a mini led. Has Dolby Vision too. Samsung is cheap edge lit crap no DV, no broad colour range. While the TCL is one of the brightest TVs on the market. Yet can still keep a near perfect black level without blooming. Samsung is nowhere near that with a Q7. If you're watching in a dark room you would be embarrassed to own the Samsung

  • And how does the TCL compare to the 55" Samsung NEO QLED(mini LED) for under $900?
