Unlike the Tesla, this is an actually deal. Main issue will be newer entrant, so it support network is likely to be lacking.

The deal is not yet on their website, but a few motoring sites have the details:
    https://www.drive.com.au/news/2026-gac-aion-ut-price-and-spe…

I don't see the value in the Luxury spec as I don't think enough has been added compared to the standard spec.

    • +22

It's very nice that you have a choice of 7 colours without paying extra. Hope more companies start doing this.

      • Where does it say it's free ? Pls share the link. Thank you.

        • Hey. It is in the Drive article above.

          Rococo White – no cost
          Seine Silver – no cost
          Cosmo Black – no cost
          Emerald Green – no cost
          Classic Crimson – no cost
          Twilight Lavender – no cost
          Champs-Elysees Beige – no cost
Emerald Green with white roof – $1000
Classic Crimson with white roof – $1000

          • @Aureus: Not true, only white and beige are free, $600 for others and 1K extra for the shitty looking white roof.

            • +1

@Pace210: That sucks. Guess Drive got it wrong.

              • @Aureus: Still, a lot to like about this, my cons are no spare and indicators on the left.

                • +3

@Pace210: the majority of non top spec EV’s don’t come with a spare, it’s the new normal.

      • +9

Correct, I hope Tesla heard this.

        • +2

tesla was already supposed to be here

there was tesla 2 compact coming and yet…

Tesla survival is upon the US tax payers money. Tax is infinite. Why would they care?

            • +3

@Spamazon: It nearly fail multiple times, the big broda step in and resued it. If that's no survival, then meh I dont know what else, normal operation ? I wish big broda step in and save small businesses in a normal operation like that. I wont hold my breath.

              Edit: I didnt neg you.

              • +1

@frewer: Thanks, just stirring. Telsa make great cars but the chinese manufacturers are really good. Use to watch Sandy Munro a bit and he said as much.

                • +1

@Spamazon: U got my up vote

                • +2

@Spamazon: Many Teslas are manufactured in China.

                  • @rooon: Yes all Aussie telsa's come from there except the plaid, which comes from germany. The chinese quality is far better than the early US models that we got.

                  • @rooon: and really well too.

        • forget Tesla now, in this new era it's China time!

      • +5

They didn't offer anything extra. Here they are giving a driveaway price at cheaper than plus on road costs price, saving thousands and free choice of colours. There's also the added chargers.

Tesla didn't even offer say some free extra supercharging.

        • thats was long over given everyone is buying a 'cheap' Model 3/Y

it was ok when it was a $150k Model S/X and there was some 'prestige' but now…

        • +2

Tesla dont need to, they have sold the most popular car on the planet for the last 3 years. They are also going away from cars in time.

          • @PerthectDeal: the bottom has fallen out of Tesla's market opportunity WORLDWIDE because Elon is an outspoken billionaire and the market doesn't like what he has to say.

As they say, "Past performance is not a reliable indicator or guarantee of future results, returns, or success."

My Tesla M3, although a very well built, reliable and super fun (China) car, is nothing (NOTHING!) compared to the new EVs coming out of China these days.

          • @PerthectDeal: ahh yes good old robots, like china isnt sitting there rubbing hands like birdman, you think china cant do better? im sure thy can do better just like the evs. and sell it for 1/5 the price, cant went to own a few china made robot field hands doing my gardening and a few house robots too, to make me white cake

        • +5

          Huh? No they aren’t?

    • +5

sunroof, power tailgate, power mirrors & seat ventilation i think worth it for $4k??

      • +23

It's subjective. I would pay extra to not have the sunroof.

        • +13

problem is these bastards, all bastards sell as packs and not ala carte

          sunroof is bullshit

but power fuccin' mirrors???? the japanese invented that 40 yrs ago…. its two motors and a button,…what kinda caveman shit is it when you have to hand slap mirrors close???

seat ventilation is also good in our climate.also power tailgate is good

          • @tonyjzx: Dad's 2022 toyota corolla doesn't have power closing mirror. Neither does my 2016 Subaru impreza. Bit annoying but not sure its worth the amount of money and a raging comment on OzB.

However if you mean power adjustable mirrors then I'm on board with the rage. The 2003 Mitsubishi mirage I had f**k me what a sh*t show that is to set up

            • +2

@Some Random Guy: your cars are aus market shit for a unsophisticated audience

1989 nissan has power adjustable and folding mirrors

its a GTR though but the base GTS had it too

again its 2026, how much is two motors and a button? $10?

          • @tonyjzx: It’s only driver ventilation though… why can’t they give it to passengers? Some bmw’s have cooled seats for 3rd row.

          • @tonyjzx: assume base model has manual folding of the whole mirror assembly, but still electric adjustment of the actual reflective bit.

        • Sunroof in Australia is the worst. I would love if they actually started making the roof more insulated instead of chucking a sunroof in there.

      • It's actually an extra 5K, not 4K.

        • $4k off the RRP, $5k off this sale price yes

      • +2

Its an extra $5k not $4k. If it included a larger battery and more power then the $5k would be justified, otherwise I dont think it is.

      • +11

The Tesla thats built in China? That Tesla?

          • @jaimex2: It's a mute argument now, yours literally.

PC's were too, now all are manufactured in China, the hardware and related software innovation, Chinese.

        https://electrek.co/2025/12/03/tesla-model-y-named-worst-car…

Tesla has received a brutal reality check from Germany this week. The country’s closely watched TÜV Report 2026 has not only ranked the Tesla Model Y as the absolute worst car for reliability in its age group but noted that it has the highest defect rate of any vehicle tested in the last ten years.

The Model 3 didn’t fare much better, landing in the third-to-last spot

        • +1

GigaBerlin Germany made for EU market. If what you say is correct, the Germans, like the Texans, don't build Teslas anywhere near as well as the Chinese.

    • Hmmm I dunno, the included 8 amp charger with the BYD is very slow. At least provide a 10 amp charger.

      • not going to happen, our 10A plugs are shared, you'd max the circuit with one device for hours and turn on somethig else could trip it.

I have a 15A plug and charge my BYD at 3kW but it's on a dedicated circuit.

Can anyone tell me where the Melbourne dealer actually is? Last I tried, the website takes you to Northland carpark.

    • +7

      Mobile mechanic

    • +1

      Put your postcode only on
      https://www.gacgroup.com/en-au/test-drive

5 or 6 VIC dealers listed.

      • +1

Yes, Preston takes you to a carpark. Do they have no physical shopfront?

    • +5

They have 2 GACs sitting inside Northland with a sad dude sitting at a foldable desk.

Not as funny as seeing a tesla inside Victoria Gardens with 2 desperate sales dudes outside the food court at the height of Elmo's insanity

    • Bayside Peugeot in Cheltenham just got converted into Bayside GAC

  • +2

    Those specs looks good.

    • -5

      Paper is amazing at that

  • 22kW charger is crazy, does this car even support it?

    • +1

DC fast charging capability is rated at up to 87kW, with GAC claiming a 30–80 per cent recharge can be completed in about 24 minutes. AC charging is supported at up to 11kW and the UT also includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability for powering external devices.

      • +3

for a property with single phase supply, it will max supporting up to 15kw in current standard (63A)
some older units might even have 50A or even 40A main circuit breaker
so some places might need to have wiring and switch box upgrade before putting the wall charger

        • +1

The wall charger only supports 32A (7kw single phase, 11kw three phase).

          • @loksmack: yea, I wonder whether I can install a 22kw wall charger if my home is just single phase
22kw charger should be for three phases i believe?

            • +2

@littlesoldier: Chargers (technically 'EVSEs') that are marketed as 22kw can do either single or 3 phase, both at 32A. So yes you can install a 22kw chargers just fine, you just won't get 22kw out of it.

        • How can it be checked? Do I need to engage electrician for review or do I need to get the electrical drawings from house build?

          • +1

@Michael1983: You will need a license sparky to put in the car charger anyway, when they come and give you a quote, they can tell any extra work needed (eg. Upgrading circuit breaker, main supply, switchboard etc)

GAC UT EV sounds like a medical condition.

    • +4

you're getting downvoted by some wumaos i gather but yea, GAC AION UT sounds like some urinary tract disease…. also this is GAC and not JAC??? jesus these guys need to merge or some shit

be that as it may this is going to be the battleground now due to iran

      $30k subcompact evs

BUT I hear the MG4 Urban is coming

      eg.

      https://www.mg.co.uk/new-cars/mg4-ev-urban

      • +3

BYD needs to fix their Atto1 and Atto2 pricing quick smart. These low $30k cars are compelling value.

        • +10

the Atto 1/2 look like golf carts pretending to be a car

thing is i dont think aussies really want to be forced into some bullshit like this

the GAC Aion it its credit looks like a reasonable car

          • +3

@tonyjzx: Agree. Atto1 looks like an absolute sh1tb0x and Atto2 makes me feel sad when I see them. Aion looks much less miserable.

            • @Brick Tamland:

the Atto 1/2 look like golf carts pretending to be a car

              .

Atto1 looks like an absolute sh1tb0x

I agree it looks a bit weird, like the sides are shaved off flat and the design just makes it look even smaller than it already is (smallest car) and toy like.

Atto 2 looks ok imo. just giving a different opinion.

I also saw a aussie youtube video from Atto 1 owner. many things cheapened on it that I think aren't mentioned in ozb posts. I might post the video in forums if I can find it.
one was the battery cooling system is just the AC air piped around. so it does a terrible job cooling the battery AND it makes the AC blowing on you warmer instead of ice cold. they said it sucks. I wonder is Atto 2 is any better.

              • @skibidigrimacmoggr67: just remembered they were also saying range much worse than claimed when the temperature is too hot or too cool. the car probably spends too much of it's battery energy to cool or heat the vehicle. maybe it has to do with how the car is small and the battery is small. it's a downside you don't expect for the smallest size EV's.

      I for one thought it’s a ute for $31k

      • +1

OMG, same… I thought it was going to be a Subaru Brumby/Toyota Hilix 2wd sized and style ute like the Slate…

  • +15

I’ve owned a GAC for a little over 2 months now. The Emzoom. It’s been awesome so far - it’s Chinese but in another league to a ZS or Jolion - feels so much better put together in there. First Chinese car I’ve ever driven where the driver aids aren’t a constant annoyance (I’m looking at you, MG, Chery, BYD). Theres still some pretty big question marks though - dealer accessories still not available (eg mats), and nobody can tell me how much it’s going to cost to service. I assume being a turbo with a dual clutch gearbox, it won’t be cheap.

    • Someone on FB posted that the service costs are $284, $418, $750, $643, $418
Don't know how accurate this info is.
I'm picking up mine next week!

      • +1

I’m somewhat sceptical…I’m also sceptical of the 15,000km interval that the dealer I purchased from suggested.

That’s great, congrats! Really love mine. Even got wanky personalised plates to match.

Coming from a diesel Tucson highlander. So nice to be back in a smaller car again.

        • dual clutches are non wear until 75,000 at least

small turbos are normal these days i woouldnt worry

    • How do you find the dual clutch gearbox? Most of the reviews I've seen say it is the weak point of the Emzoom.

      • +2

Similar niggle you’ll hear of any DSG really… bit jerky from a standstill, and will roll on a big enough incline. Once moving, it’s fantastic. I’ve learned to overcome both issues by adjusting my throttle input.

Partner has a Skoda Kamiq Monte Carlo and I’d say it’s pretty similar between the two.

The GAC uses a wet clutch which should (touch wood) hopefully be more reliable.

    • +1

Emzoom is a perfectly cromulent word.

      • It’s really stupid isn’t it.

    • +1

You can get accessories from taobao.

      • I got mats from Rubber Tree. They are excellent.

        • Do the rear mats cover the centre footwell? As in is it one big piece or 2 separate ones that only cover the 2 spots behind the front driver and passenger seats?

          • @brifog: One big piece :) can take a photo if you like.

            • @jackary: Yes please!

              • +3

@brifog: Sorry for the delay! Here you go: https://ibb.co/prjbJqrt

The rear one still has a slight bump in the middle (it was delivered folded in half) - I figure once I leave it out on a hot day it’ll smooth out :)

                • @jackary: They look like really good quality. I ended up getting the luxury carpet ones.

            • @jackary: Did you get just the standard carpet mats?

              • +2

@brifog: Sure thing, I’ll pop out and take one for you in the morning - I went for the “executive rubber” mats - had rubber mats for the first time in my last car and couldn’t go back. They’re so low maintenance!

With that said, a good friend has the platinum carpet mats in his Volvo. They’re quite plush!

    • -2

Have a BYD, i have never found the drivers aid to be an annoyance, for those who find it annoying to be told to pay attention to the road by the car, a sure fire trick it get around it is to pay attention to the road

the only an annoyance is ICC doesn't adust speeds based on it knowing about a speed change.
