See that ludicrous display last night?

    • +7

What's Wenger doing sending Walcott on that early?

      • +8

Fing about Tottenham is, they sacked Ange. Now they can't win a throw in.

        • +6

          They're av'ing a laurgh

        • +1

Which is a problem, cause Frank taught them the only way to score goals is from throw ins.

    • +8

The thing is, they always tryin to walk it in.

Free is the only price I'm willing to pay for this year's FIFA

    • You’re one of many thinking the same thing.

Was just reading today that hotels in the USA are freaking out, are bookings are light to non-existent for the event. I’d half expect there to be empty stadiums, or them needing to give tickets away to locals.

And normally when Coca Cola has a competition on I’ll enter often, but this time around it’s a no thanks full stop.

      • -5

what kind of bizarre copium are you huffing, they have sold more tickets than any other WC so far and there was 500 million request submitted in the ballots, it's set to be the most attended WC in history

        • Funny that since there are more games than any other world cup played before it

          • @Pootie Tang: I'm not pro trump or USA, but you have to be genuinely braindead to believe that the hospitality industry is "freaking out" or that there will be empty stadiums with tickets given away to locals. The World Cup is expanded because FIFA knows they can make money from the demand of the extra games as you said there would be more than ever before, the idea it won't be massive is laughable

            • @nikko016: Clearly pointing out there are more games. Nothing more. At no point did i mention hospo.

The land of consumerism will dominate proceedings for those that can afford it which is a lot of people.

Its a watered down product for me after the team increases.

            • -1

@nikko016: Why did you have to comment about being not pro trump or usa? Are you afraid of being attacked by the lefties ;)?

    • +3

I'm not even watching it for free. Sport is dead under FIFA. Even worse now that Trump has his filthy fat little fingers in it.

Awesome, I'll finally be able to watch my beloved Iran live.

He was there in 2022 if I remember correctly

      • Would be mad for them not to parachute him in at least as an analyst/summariser if not commentator.

          • @GardenGnome: Better than spouting Israeli propaganda.

            • @eccaz: Better than terrorist sympathizers. And I'm against killing children and civilians. Two wrongs don't make a right and evil is evil.

              • @GardenGnome: The Israelis are the terrorists, you make no sense.

                • -3

@eccaz: And so, you support terrorism against innocent civilians? But wait…. I see blind to the cause. Two wrongs don't make a right, killing children and civilians is wrong no matter what side you are on. Israelis are bastards for killing children and so are Hamas for killing noncombatant civilians.

                  • +1

@GardenGnome: What are you talking about? Let’s recap:

You complained about SBS covering Palestinian protests, I said that this was preferable to spouting Israeli propaganda (like other media and the Liberal party), then you start banging on about “terrorist sympathizers” (implying that Israel is the virtuous side to support, and that Palestinian protesters are terrorist sympathizers), I said the Israelis are terrorists, then you throw in a non-sequitur about my supporting terrorism (?!).

You clearly have a pro-Israel agenda (good for you), please define terrorism and terrorist sympathizer.

                    • +1

@eccaz: I have no agenda and I don't support either side, what I'm against is bullshit excuses by terrorist sympathizers like you and others that killing civilians, ANY civilians is justified because the Israelis did this and that. It's not, two wrongs also don't make it right and to kill civilians or children or noncombatant is wrong no matter what side you cheer on.

But you said, and I'll quote "The Israelis are the terrorists, you make no sense." so, we know your ideology, agenda and bias.

You cannot justify killing innocent civilians' or children or whoever no matter what the cause is. I don't give a shit what your religious text says, or your supreme leader says, or your prime minister/president says it's wrong and always will be.

                      • +1

@GardenGnome: Typical Israeli liar, you clearly have an agenda, don’t be shy.

I don’t support killing anyone, all I’ve said is that Palestinian protests are better than Israeli propaganda, and that Israel is a terrorist country.

Tell us all how Israel is not a terrorist country.

                        Clap clap

                        • -2

@eccaz: LOL I see another terrorist sympathizer and supporter. Did you read what I just posted. I don't support either side, I'm against killing innocents.

It's not a football match, neither side wins in war. You can never EVER justify killing civilians or children or grandmas.

Both sides need a good smack on the bum and a stern talking too. Both sides need to grow up and act like humans should act.

                          • +1

@GardenGnome: Then why were you so quick to defend Israel? Don’t be shy

                            • -1

@eccaz: I'm not defending them mate, Isreal should be ashamed of killing children, grandmas and innocent civilians in Gaza.

But you cannot support any terrorism on either side, you cannot support Hamas actions on October 7th or Isreal bombing Gaza or the Bondi attacks.

The end never justifies the means, never. It's not a football match, in war and conflict no one ever wins, one side just loses more slowly.

                              • @GardenGnome: Why do you keep implying I’ve said something I’ve never said?

                                • @eccaz: Because you keep implying Isreal is a "terrorist country" then you don't condemn Hamas or Hezbollah for their actions against innocent civilians. You can't have it both ways mate, either all terrorism is wrong or all killing of innocents including children is wrong or all terrorism is justified.

                                  • @GardenGnome: How did we get from

SBS is more interested in covering Palestinian protests

                                    To

you don't condemn Hamas or Hezbollah for their actions against innocent civilians

Are you assuming the Palestinian protests are about supporting Hamas and Hezbollah?

Also, do you agree that Israel/Hamas/Hezbollah are all terrorists entities, or are you just deflecting?

                                    • +1

@ShouldIBuyIt: Not all support them, but if you were being honest many do support Hamas & Hezbollah actions. Even you can admit that is a fact.

You can see this in the flags people wave at protests, the B grade celebrities shouting for 'intifada' at protests. There is support obviously.

No, I don't agree Israelis is technically a terrorist entity, but they are bastards for killing children, innocent civilians and noncombatants.

My main point is if you condemn Isreal for killing innocents and children you have to condemn Hamas for doing the same.

I'm not advocating or supporting either side, just don't sugar coat it and call a spade a spade, killing innocents is wrong!

                                  • @GardenGnome: You didn’t do very well at school, did you.

From the river to the sea.

                                    • @eccaz: Yeah, as I thought, another bogan terrorist sympathizer. Do you realize how stupid that slogan is? Do you know nothing about history?

                                      • -1

@GardenGnome: From the ocean to the harbour.

                                        • @eccaz: Or you could say garbage in and garbage out. You choose to support HAMAS when they torched their own people by their actions, used their own people as cannon fodder and their deaths for political gain and used them for human shields. Isreal is no different, they have acted disgracefully like horrible people with no conscience. Don't support killing innocent civilians on either side at any time anywhere, it's not a football match! No one wins in war and nothing will be settled with talking to each over peace negotiations.

          • +1

@GardenGnome: Thats funny, cos Fozz left SBS to work with some humanitarian organization.

Fozz himself is no longer at SBS because HE in more interested in "covering Palestinian protests these days" rather than SBS.

            • +1

@ellos: Yes, I know he is more interested in humanitarian work. Shame he was the last of the good OG SBS commentators.

Anyone else think the World Cup will be cancelled or completely moved to Mexico and Canada?

    • +39

Are you serious? Infantino pulled a Trump peace prize out of his ass. The world cup is more likely to end up entirely at Mar-a-Lago than exclude the USA.

      • +11

USA going to win by default. ICE will round up all the foreign teams.

    • +1

Cos more Mexican and Indian crowds?

    • Lol, should be played in Canada alone, seems to be the only place safe. But no, no way they cancel or move the schedule, business before safety, always

      • +3

        And Business before sport

    • Why would they? Not a chance imo, having it 8s the entire point since they don't even care about football. Twice in 32 years and Australia got laughed at for our pitch cos it was already arranged, bought and paid for by Saudi.

They don't care about 'the poors' or whatever else happening in world politics, having it is the entire point for Trump and America. To preen their egos.

ill probably pay to have access to watch every match live

        And i assumed Aus

        Thanks for correcting me

    • Gimme $1000 and I'll give you a secret code to unlock all the match for free on SBS

      • +1

Give me a million, and I'll sell you the Westgate bridge. Great deal!

  • +1

Isn't that mean war is going to finish within next 90 days….

    • And the immigration law lifted too.

  • +20

Wonder if they'll create 20/30min+ highlight matches. These are great during the first rounds as just not enough time to watch all games.

EDIT: I just checked Hereand they are indeed going to have 30min mini-matches, and also 12min & 3min highlights of each. Nice one SBS.

    • -2

Just watch the replay of the goals, will save you up to 90+min lol

      • +2

Then you miss the real skill in passing, heading, defense & ball movement. Goals are only the cherry on top.

        • Yeah and ordering entree is the best part of taking your Mrs out for Valentine’s Day

    • +1

Shits all over the coverage of the Olympics that Nine dished out / out behind a Stan paywall

    • @Borg Thankyou for this info👍 that sounds like a very good feature/option! I'm sure this will be something I take advantage of, especially with 100+ games being played🤪 Cheers 🍻

  • For a second I thought that thumbnail picture was a Bunnings hat

Yet you probably had no problems when the WC was in Russia and trophy's/medals were given out by Putin or Quatar where the Sheiks put an Arab cloak around Messi.

      WOT, Really mate???

      • -3

They're all performative. They don't really care and just look for any excuse to yell about Trump.

        • -2

          Don't you?
How could any one defend the bloke adjudicated to be a rapist, and continuing to be implicated in pdf-ilia. Even the boot-lickers are getting off the wagon. What type of person could stay!

          • @xrayed giraffe: Instead of focusing on one man, imagine if people put half as much effort into other issues affecting our country and the the world. So blinded by anger and hatred.

      • +2

        No, i refused those too.

  • +3

Are we having a splendid always-winning orange man speech at the opening?

    • +3

      … of every.single.games.
      YES.
War will be over and he'll need other distractions

      • -1

He’s dreaming if he thinks the war will be over.

        • He will stop the war himself and will spin it as it was a successful outcome.

    • +4

The winner will have to gift their trophy to him for making it the "Greatest FIFA World Cup ever!"

    • you know we will even if theres nothing said about it yet

  • +4

    FIFA?

    More like FUFU nowadays.

  • +3

What a sham of an organization. Every world cup these guys are involved in some sketchy bullshit.

    • I believe they spell the word you are after "Corruption"

  • +1

Good to know that all games will be broadcast free but thinking about the chance of listening to Martin Tyler’s commentary makes me cringe.

Still recovering from PTSD from his game commentaries in last World Cup. He has the ability to make every exciting game like a dose of sleeping pill. He’s a godsend for insomniacs.

    • +1

I think Tyler is one of the best, akin to Phil Ligget in cycling. But he's no Less Murray.

      • I appreciate Tyler’s crisp English accent and to me, watching football would feel like something is missing when there’s no English accent commentaries. He was OK maybe like 25 years ago but just not in the last 10 years or so with his slow unenthusiastic, monotone which makes every goal and near goal lacks excitement.

I turned the sound off and played other music when I was watching the World Cup matches he did commentaries on to avoid falling asleep 10-20 mins into the match.

  • anyone say fifa peace prize

  • Time different is a challenge. Winter night also make it hard to wake up in the morning.

  • -7

It's not free it's paid in taxes

    • +4

yes but I'd rather 'pay' for this than 'pay more' for Kayo/stan/prime/etc.

  • +3

Sadly this means no 4K coverage unless they miraculously bring it to SBS on demand

    • +1

Call me crazy but sometimes I watch YouTube on my phone at 360p.

    • +2

Let's hope for at least 1080p HD without buffering and without app crashes, and not too many ads that you can't skip.
