Tried my luck this morning and they couldn't get anywhere near this price ($4.7K).
Where did you go?
My Strat:
- Go to JB/Good Guys
- Find employee in tv section who looks bored.
- Say you've been approved by Wife/Husband to get TV but only if you can get for same price as friend (Show reciept).
- Ask "Is there anything you can do for me with this".
- Try another store.
Generally, I've found JB employees are alot more to the letter, but harvy norman and good guys are alot more willing to do this sort of thing. Try a few stores if the first one doesn't work. I got it on my second store.
I do a very similar exercise.
Get a price through the union shopper.
Walk into jb hifi and state I can get it for this price. Can you match it?
They always say yes (as it is above their staff price).
I would purchase through the union shopper but you have to pay via cc not discounted gift cards.
I've found salesmen more willing and happy to do the deal if you don't waste their time deciding to purchase or not.
Quick and easy sale so they can move onto the next chum.
Where do you go in union shopper? Is there any specific area or store?
@Avi0001: All done online now if you're or someone you know is in the union. Any union member can get access with proof of membership/dues.
Sign up online, submit enquiry and you usually receive a call within a few hours with the best possible price from jb hifi/good guys.
Then instead of paying over the phone take that price instore.
Note:they will not give that price in writing to avoid people from doing exactly this.

@Avi0001: The agent/call centre for union shopper calls you with the best price they can get. In my experience it is usually pretty close to ATL prices.
Get the price from union shopper over the phone. Walk into jb hi fi and say hey im a member of the union and use union shopper, I'm able to purchase it through union shopper at this price and collect from jb hifi. Can you match it?
I find if you don't take up much of the sales persons time with questions still deciding etc they look at their scanner, see if they can match it. They have always matched the price.
The last time I had something price matched he had to get the store managers approval. He was happy to do it because it was still (just) over staff price.
Yep went to a nearby Good Guys and did pretty much exactly the above. Showed him the receipt and watched him type the price into their computer and it wouldn't let him come down that low.
He thought it might be ex-display/commercial price but otherwise couldn't explain how it was so low.
Unfortunately didn't really have time to go around to a bunch of different stores.
Yeah when you can go to a few more stores, they can literally look up the order number and see no ex-display or commercial attachment.

Depends on the day and who you get at JB, generally I found GG and JB better than Hardly Normal.
I don't bother with HN anymore unless they have a u beat deal that no one can beat.
I tried to get this. Apparently it’s been doing the rounds and the team leaders are all aware of the receipt being shared and won’t match it now.
