Was it just me? Or boost seems to get worse reception? I'm in Perth metro

    • It's still good for me and better than Optus. I'm in Melbourne north west

    • Course's for horses 😉

    • +1

I recently switched to Boost from Kogan and honestly I feel like the reception is worse. Inner city Melbourne.

    • +3

I switched from ALDImobile and yeah, I definitely have had worse reception. It could also be that 5G is not that great

    • I have had the exact same thought over the last couple of months. Something has changed. I am in inner city Melbourne. Will be going to Telstra at the end of my 12 months.

    • +1

      You are right
      Seems it is going down
May be telstra's aim to kill the brand.

    • yes and no. perth metro is vast.

    • +3

Same! I thought it was only me as we used to have Boost in the past and it was solid as a rock…sadly not anymore.

In in SE Mel and I’ve had complete black spots. Will finish the year and switch to something else. 😡😅

    • +2

Yes and if you are in areas with lots of congestion like an airport it's unusable. Swapped to Kogan. 4G Kogan outperforms 5G boost from my own experience.

    • Same for me, western Sydney and CBD.

    • Boost uses the full Telstra network. It's the only company that does that too; notice when you log in it's a Telstra style page.

    • Boost for me in Perth never gets over 2 bars on an iPhone
Speeds are slower than Vodafone/kogan. It’s been this way for 5 or so years

      But

When you’re rural it pays for itself

      • I find for syd telstra wqs best, then optus almost same

But never going vodafone again, omg the worse ever!

  • +2

So the actual purchase price is $249
Then $30 gift card to make it $219?

    • +4

I believe it’s $219 (how much you pay in total) and then you also get a $30 gift card on top.

      • -3

nah bird380 is right i think. $219 after $30 off

        • +4

As stated in the catalogue it is $219.99 after $30 off, plus get a $30 digital Shop Card. When factoring the value of the Shop Card, it is effectively $189.99.

          • +2

@Tsquared: This is what it was last time this sale occurred (December 2025).

          • @Tsquared: Went in an it’s just $220, not $220 plus a $30 giftcard on top

            • @MediumRareChicken: Really?! That's false advertising then. It clearly says it comes with a $30 shop card

              • @BaarOzGain: Unless the giftcard is some backend thing where I’ll receive via email later on?

                • +1

@MediumRareChicken: As with past deals of this nature, the digital Shop card will be emailed to the member's email address 3 weeks from purchase. Not issued at point of sale.

      • +3

That's correct. Just bought one and paid $219 and will also receive a $30 gift card via email. Thanks OP!

        • +2

Same, just got it an hour back. Paid $219. $30 gift vard will come in a week via email. Effective cost $189. Not bad.

          Number porting happened in minutes.

  • -1

Good price but this deal is better: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/951152

Effectively $200 after cashback for the same starter kit.

    • +4

Thi will need you you ativate within 30 days.
Costco deal will have atleast 12 months expiry

      • -2

Buuuut you will have a limited time to activate to receive the Costco gift card.

I bought the same deal in December and missed out on the gift card because I didn't activate in time (I think ~60 or 90 days).

        • the activation date is on the packaging, I purchased in December 2025 and expiry was may 2026. I received the $30 gift card via email a couple of weeks after purchase

          • -1

@DealSa: Oh noo i wqs hoping 12 month limit to activate

        • +2

You should have received the gift card.
Costco offer not linked to activation.
You should go back and ask.
It vever mentioned in terms and conditions.
It is non refundable even unopened.
I alays check expiry before accepting the pack

          • -1

@Wiser: Damn are there ever longer expiry to activate boost. 90 days is kinda too short for me

    • +5

$219 with a $30 gift card as well, if you already go to Costco, better deal

  • +1

Still waiing for the $30 Costco voucher from the last sale on the Telstra 365day prepaid card.

    • I bought the same deal, and was told by Costco that the SIM had to be activated within a certain timeframe and then the giftcard is emailed automatically. I didn't activate mine in time so have missed out.

    • +2

      When was that
Last year I bought Telstra and got the voucher in less than a week
The pack was activated after 7 months

      • Weird different rhings happening t difference peoples

  • Is it identical to Telstra in terms of network speed & coverage? I purchased a 12 month Telstra prepaid from Costco for a good price last year, hopefully that deal pops up again.

    • +5

I don’t think it is, I rekon since Telstra bought them they have deprioritised it. When I had Boost I would have full bars and get no data in my local Westfield and on trains etc , it was garbage I had to switch networks. But every location is different I appreciate that

      • Thanks for the info, think I'm going to go with Telstra again, don't want to go with the uglier sister over a $50 saving (as long as that Telstra deal returns in the next 3 months)

      • My work mobile has experienced that, going from full Telstra to an unnamed "reseller" about a month ago.

  • -2

Woolworth mobile 15%off deal might be a good alternative since you can get a 10% off each month, but only if you shop at woolies often tho.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/951733

  • +2

Yep.. This is better than the TopCashback deal. Happy days. Good thing I've waited.

  • Is there a limit to how many you can buy? Looking to get one for my partner and I.

    • +2

      No
Last time they invoiced me for 4 only to find out stock exhausted and they refunded.

  • Does Boost still have WiFI calling overseas??

    • Yes it does. I was overseas last week and it worked

      • Thanks for confirming

  • Will this be available to buy online?

  • +1

Can you port in and out to another network like aldi on the same day or there’s a waiting period?

    • +1

That's what I did last year. All done porting in and out in less than 10mins

    • +1

Do u need to recharge the aldi payg to receive the amaysim port?) Via sms?

  • Can this be used to recharge my current prepaid number?

    • No.. Need to port out to a different provider. Just buy a telstra $2 sim or Aldi. Port out then port back in using the new boost sim card

      • Thank you.

      • Does this definitely work? Do I not need to be an ex Boost customer for a period before I can come back? I'm a bit worried about running out of time to do this before the Boost Sim needs to be activated…

        • +1

It does work.. Been doing it since becoming a boost customer for 5 years now. You just need to port out to a different provider for the system to think you're a new customer. Time is irrelevant (1 sec, 1min, 1hr, 1 day or 1year).

          • @angelkulit025: Do you need to select a plan on the Aldi Sim to to finalise the port out? Trying to do this now and can't seem to work it out with their $2 Sim.

            • @Captain Howdy: No. Just select pay as you go and activate it per usual.

            • @Captain Howdy: I think i saw minimum payg recharge was $15

              Was that right

              • @ATTS: I did this today despite having similar misgivings if it'll work. Have been an existing Boost customer. Bought the Costco Boost SIM, expiry 2008-01-05 from VIC. Costco staff said voucher will come in email. Bought an $2 ALDI SIM. Activated ALDI SIM online, selected 'family plan' with no recharge needed. Ported in about 10 mins when my Boost SIM lost signal. Then inserted ALDI SIM. Activated new Boost SIM, confirmed the SMS. ALDI SIM then lost signal in <10 mins also. Put in new Boost SIM and good to go. Still got the 240GB+ bonus 60GB (300 total), shows up in boost app all fine.

                • +1

                  @basquecheesecake: Nice!

                  Thanks for letting me know

A few months ago i needed a spare number and aldi lowest recharge was 15 payg

I dont think i saw family plan.

Though hope to do what u done also

            • @Captain Howdy: Did u figure it out btw?

  • Anyone in Brisbane, cam you buy one for me and I will buy off you ($220 presumably), and you can keep the gift card? I dont have costco membership. Presuming you are OK with me not activating until end May (in case gift card is tied to activating)

    • Hi mate, did someone help you out with this?

  • Sent hubby to Costco and confirmed they have a sign saying this is for new activation only when you activate by 4 May 2026.

    • @sechingl
The expiry date on the back of the card is 2027.

    • You mean like new as in porting from a diff provider? Or was it like for the shop card?

    • +1

Thats for the boost offer of 300GB data. After 4th May would be 240GB

  • Went in and it’s $220, not $220 plus a $30 giftcard on top

    • +3

Went in and purchased. They confirmed a gift card will be coming via email. The manager even checked my email to ensure they had the correct one on record.

      • +1

Good to know, cheers. We bought 2 in the same transaction, should be entitled to 2x $30
        Gift cards yeah?

        • Hi, I also need to buy two. Just wondering if you received your 2 gift cards ok? Otherwise I'll split the transaction. Cheers.

          • @CheapCharIie: Hi mate, did you find end up buying multiple sim cards in one transaction and get all the gift cards? I need to buy 4 sims so would like to be sure.

            • +1

@daanish: Hi, there was a limit of 3 per member. I couldn't split the transaction because I'm a Gold member. I bought the 2 Sims yesterday, no email yet. The cashier didn't even know about the deal. I'll follow it up with customer service if I never get them.

              • @CheapCharIie: Thanks for the helpful info!

                • @daanish: I received 2x shop cards today! So 5 days after purchase.

                  • @CheapCharIie: I ended up only needing to buying 3 sims so that worked out well. Bought on Saturday and received my cards today as well.

      • Oh so when u buy u get the gift card? Dont need to activate within 90 days?

        • on the card it will have an expiry date

          • @DealSa: 300 GB is only valid if you activate the sim by 4 May 2026 otherwise it will be 240 GB

            • @tarpit: That's not the expiry date though, that's just the bonus data. I think the questions is when do you need to activate the SIM card by.

              • @Maki: Yes thats correct

It seems people received gift card in a few weeks after purchase when not activated yet

          • @DealSa: Thanks

  • My Boost 365 expires in Apr, how can I use this card? Port out to another carrier and then activate the Csotco offer say within 1 day OK?
    TIA

    • -1

yep, maybe 2 days if you are worried

  • +4

Confirming I received my $30 gift card today. I havent activated the SIM yet

    • +1

    • Thanks for the update! Did you get it on the 17th when you made your other post?

      • +1

I received it this afternoon, 6 days after the purchase

  • +1

Received my Costco Shop card yesterday arvo. Went to buy the sim card on Saturday. Haven't even activated it yet. Winner!!!

  • +1

FWIW, the two that I bought at Costco in Canberra yesterday have an expiry date of 26/08/2027.

    • My 2 x Costco Shop Cards arrived today.

      • What was the subject line in the email?

        • +1

"You just received a Costco Digital Shop Card"

  • Just purchased one today. Hopefully I’ll get the GC soon

    • Still no shop card yet. Taking a little longer than other people here

  • Can this be bought with a Costco shop card?

    • Wqs there a benefit doing that? Or did u just have a spare shop card laying around btw?
