Seems like a good price for an entry into the Fujifilm ecosystem, "At 355g (0.78lb), FUJIFILM X-M5 is currently the lightest model in the X Series line-up of digital cameras and so small it fits in a jacket pocket. This makes it perfect to carry everywhere you go, ready to create high-quality content on a moment’s notice." - this does come at the cost of no IBIS or EVF though.

However pair it with an XF 23mm f2.8 and you have a budget X100 that is actually in stock (off course it's not as good or feature packed as an X100 but it does allow you to change lens :-) for nearly $1k less.

Got one on release. It’s… okay. The AF speed and accuracy is a bit meh.

Just throw a vintage lens on it, and the AF is irrelevant ;-) It'll also look cool!

Poor autofocus speed and accuracy just like 1996

    • What use case were you hoping to use it for?

My GAS says this could replace my EOS RP + 28mm pancake as a small light I don’t need to care about it travel camera - and cheap enough I’ll be comfortable letting the kids have a play (they’re currently using an old Odis point-n-shoot). Wonder if AF would be better than the RP?

But then my head says I have a GRIV why bother 😆

      • Wanted apsc pocket rocket, have the rx100m6 for years and wanted step up. TBH I kinda prefer the rx100

        • Fair enough I had the original rx100 and loved it before a family member lost it, but phone cameras where much more limited back then… bought a 2nd hand lx10 to try and replace the same pocketable travel camera use case (specs are similar to the earlier x100’s) a few years ago (wasn’t happy with the price of the newer rx100’s) but never enjoyed it as much (suspect cause phone cameras have advanced so much and it barely gave the ‘real camera’ feel in the photos)…

          • @mistermr6: Dunno hey maybe because I just cbf these days but iPhone 17pro and he’ll prob even the 14pro I had before does acceptable results considering it’s on me like at least 19 hours a day lol.

            lx10

            Great little pocket rocket
Didn’t mind it but I just preferred the rx100 (had the original, ii, iii, then 6)

AMEX has spend $500, get $50 off at Digi.

    IMO 23mm f2.8 seems really overpriced (yes, I know it's decent and it's a 23mm) - other considerations might be a TTArtisans 27mm f2.8 for ~$180 (new) or a used Fuji 27mm f2.8 for ~$400.

Also, keep in mind that the XM5 has no IBIS or EVF - if you need these, and don't mind a larger body, look into the XT50 or XS20.

    • I got the tt for around $140 once there was a glitch with eBay’s coupons - great pairing as the overall size is cute but yeah as you say no IS… very hit and miss in any thing less than 1/60 I felt

Nice - $140 is as cheap as I've seen it. I just bought one last week for $155 from Pergear's eBay store - it got delivered today. The copy I got has firmware v1.2 and seems pretty sharp in the centre. The lens cap is also different, so I wonder if they've improved the optics overall since the release?

I've owned 3 of the TTArtisan 27mm's previously and sold or swapped them away, and they were all pretty average - but this new one seems really good. Definitely wouldn't be paying 3x as much for a Fuji pancake.
