  • Have the previous model of this (same features smaller screen) and very happy with it.

  • $247.15 seems to be All Time Low for Prime members in July 2025: Brother MFC-L2880DW Wireless Mono Laser Multi-Function Printer $247.15 Delivered @ Amazon AU

    • My bad, I checked as far back as I could on camelcamelcamel

  • the best printer ! Brother!

    • I only use brother printers myself (Have a colour laser and one A3 inkjet) 3rd party toners save so much dosh

      • Yeah, the worst is HP as they update firmware and brick even decade old printers, then Canon & Epson for being shits with third party inks and toners.

      • Are the Brother-compatible colour toners just as good & much the same price as the black?

  • Does this one work with 3rd party toners? Particular software update to avoid? Quick search online and it looks like you can buy generics for this one.

    • I have the previous model, but just recently threw a 3rd party in and it worked no issue, just install and use, no mucking about.
      The original toner lasted forever.

    • Replaced with 3rd party toner cartridge last week, printer warned that the toner was not a brother toner cartridge but 3rd party toner works fine. Just don’t update firmware when you setup and turn update.

      • Do firmware updates actually block 3rd party toner though?

        • They do.

          • @allenhori: Dang, thanks, will be sure to avoid (assuming they don't DIY over wireless)

            • @Horacio: My old version do ask me to update firmware I just ignore them and haven’t experienced any problems so far. 3rd party toners also update their chips regularly so just don’t stock up too many toners at once should be fine (if you want to be on the latest firmware)

        • Bought 3rd party toner from Ink Station and inside the box were instructions on how to disable/turn off firmware updates on the printer and on the PC.

          • @BellaWii: I just got this printer and will set it up tomorrow. Is it set up to automatically update the software or will I be prompted to update etc.

            • @Scet106: I think it is set to auto update so go into the settings in the printer and disable it asap.

              • @BellaWii: Thanks mate, will check it out.

                • @Scet106: Found the instructions:
                  1) click the tool icon (image is a spanner and screwdriver) on the touchscreen of the printer
                  2) click “all settings”
                  3) scroll down and click “machine information”
                  4) scroll down and click “firmware auto check”
                  5) click “Off”
6 ) check status of “firmware auto check” is “Off”.

  • It appears reasonably priced generics toners are now available for around $25

Has anyone tried these generic toners

    • Just put a 3rd party in my one, previous model but fundamentally the same, worked no problem.

      • When you say 3rd party, is there a specific brand? Or any works before it’s updated?

  • Great printer

  • Can you scan in colour when you just want to email a document?

    • Yes

  • Anyone know if they have a two tray model without the multifunction stuff? Just need the printer with two trays. Always seems like the two tray models only come with the multifunction (although for anyone reading the model in this deal has one tray)

    • Looks like you're looking for a business printer.

You can either get a large business printer which will be a MFC or you can buy a business printer and then add a separate paper tray.

Mind you, it's just cheaper to get a large printer for your main printing and a separate printer for your other paper size $150 for the duplex HL-L2445DW.

Only downside of the cheap small printers is the small toner cartridge.

      • This is very helpful, thanks so much! Will look into a few options.

  • Check second hand, always printers going cheap

  • "Compatible with Brother Genuine Toners"

    You'd hope so.

I have the older MFC-L2750DW and works a treat. Also works with generic cartridges. I'm hoping the L2880DW has improved the ADF- sometimes pages are slightly wonky.

    • same, my 2740DW bought 10 years ago still going strong!

      • Once a technology matures, it's difficult to improve it but they always find a way to change it just that little bit so that older toner cartridges are incompatible.

        • at least brother printers are quite friendly with third party toners
          unlike HP or Epson

    • I have this model L2750-DW as well but keep getting t1 paper error every now and then. Got is serviced, few months back and was told that this is very common issue on this model.

      • That's a shame.

What's the cost of the service?

        Did it fix the issue?

I think if I had pay someone to service it, unfortunately for the environment, I'd probably bin in.

        • I paid $90 to fix it, it was a motherboard problem just out of warranty. I rarely get the error but a tray pull out and push back in works for now. If it starts to give trouble again then will bin it.

  • Is it heavy ?

    • No, my Brother ain't heavy.

  • duplex printing & scanning feature is pretty great
it can also scan directly to email and google drive

  • generic ink replacement?

  • FFS gone !!!!!

    Grrrr

    • have another look!

  • The L2820 is also on sale for $209.95.
Has a smaller screen and no duplex scanning, but seems most other features are the same.

  • Check again, back to stock.

  • price gone up to $298, or $269 if price comparison to LWT

  • Back in stock

I did the price match at officeworks

  • Thanks OP, back in stock, got one. Good bye forever and good riddance to inkjets

  • I've waited close to a year with alerts set for printers in anticipation of one but every single time one comes up it's always missing at least one key thing.

Thought this was finally gonna be the one but nope. Everything is perfect except…it doesn't print in colour.

I live in hope that one day I'll get offered a deal that's the equivalent of this printer + colour printing at a good price 🥲

    • Much of their range is on special including a colour one for 300-odd, have you check them all out?

      • Tried having a look before but I'm always worried I'll miss a key feature that I want but forget to look for. Comments in ozbargain deal posts like this are very good at reminding me of the important stuff, lol

        So much variance in printers…

Which is the colour one you're talking about out of curiosity? I must've missed it

  • mine might be a lower model but it has served me well for 5 years and ongoing.
Changed cartridge only once (not heavy user)

  • Ready to dig my HP subscription on this the next sale of this.
