Missed out on scoot jakarta return for $319 and bali $330. Really hate melbourne weather in winter

    • Get some heat in Japan during their summer 😆

    • you could move to queensland

    • There was a Scoot return to Jakarta for $319?

  • +3

Can one layover for a few days or must take the next connecting flight?

  • +5

Mel to Osaka 14hr 50 in the air is brutal! Went tokyo to melbourne yesterday on China Southern via Guangzhou and that was long enough!

    • How was the layover in Guangzhou? did you take advantage of their free hotels?

      • Straightforward, get off plane onto tarmac and whisked away in a bus to the terminal. Go through a “health check” ie temperature check then go through basically an immigration checkpoint and have bag rescanned for some reason and through to the gates.

I had a 2 & 3 hour layover which was plenty of time, didn’t want to stop overnight as I’ve heard the hotel isn’t great and is close to the airport so likely not much around it and also I only know English

I believe CS offer 2x free checked in bags which is pretty good value

ohhhh, i was planning to have a longer layovere and chill out at the yoma spa. Do you think thats doable?

@Homr: No idea, I’m sure that’s fine as I think you can get a 72 hour transit visa?. tbh China not for me haha.

I couldn’t even use the airport wifi without uploading a photo of my passport, now I’m happy to sell my info for Ozbargain deals/profit but I draw the line at free wifi hah.

Not sure why you got neg for providing info but here is a balancer.

@AaronRain: The Chinese loyalist don't like anything negatives to be said about their motherland

            • @Duckie2hh: That is my confusion, what exactly was it negative that they mentioned? That they heard the hotel isn't great?

              • @AaronRain:

                China not for me

China is #1 …. LOL check out my empty cities, apartments and rampant corruption.

                • @Duckie2hh: Except that wasn't the comment that got neg or that I was replying to (if anything that one got a +1).

I will never fly with these charlatans again no matter the price!

    • +5

      What happened?

    • They've been fantastic every single time I've flown with them, which has got to be over 2 dozen times now.
      madd rage bait comment.

      charlatans

I wish there was some competition in flights from Brisbane to Osaka … rarely any deals. Always deals from Melbourne or Sydney.

    • +1

I came looking for Bris to Osaka too… disappointing.

  • +11

Not so attractive if adding a check-in bag.

    • That's where they get you

  • +3

By the time I got to the checkout it said it went from $454 to $500. Then I clicked on the same link again in an incognito window and it was $490

  • Not sure I’d necessarily recommend air Asia just based off the hassles for the layover duration where most routes I’ve been eyeing require an overnight stay in KL. KLIA2 is alright when I was flying from KL back to Sydney but baggage drop can take sometimes take forever and there are usually long walks between the boarding gates coupled with redundant security checks.

Is the deal is still there, im trying to find the prices from April 19/20th for around 10ish days but cant find the price of around 500 from either Melb or Syd to Tokyo

    • same, in fact I can't even view the beat that flight link

Again, I will ignore them, because they like to cancel the flights 4 to 6 weeks out from the departure date if the load is bad, then you have to fight with them to get refund / credit. And at the last minute book high fares with other airlines. This is my own experience, just ignore these jokers.

Also with Iran situation, some airlines are cancelling flights because they cannot secure fuel, there is even higher chance that AA will do the same (for some, or all flights) as their tickets are so cheap.

    • You really reckon they'd cancel flights? I'd love to get on this but I don't exactly have the money to throw away if so. Is there no insurance or cancellation cover?

      • This is my experience with their cancelled flights, under the terms and conditions, you can either get a refund in credit (worst choice), or if you are lucky, back to your original payment method. Or they will offer flying in another date. But if you already have a trip planned (i.e. easter, xmas school holidays), moving the flight to the week after will be disastrous. which means your only option will be get a refund from them, but you have to book another airline at crazy prices because the travel date is much closer now. Insurance cover varies, depends on your policy, most insurance companies will decline a claim if the airline has "already offered you a solution" …..

        • That's not sounding great. How many times have they cancelled on you?

          • @AUBRX: I flew with them over 15 years ago, successfully.

One year ago, I try to book with them again and this happened, and I have never look at them again since。

Just not worth the hassle, if other airlines like Scoot etc only ~AUD 50 more, as an example.

I think if you are a not time sensitive person for travelling, and you have free accommodation in both cities, it is worth a try - because to fly ~one week later is OK. if you just accept their replacement flight offer.

AND this ~500 return price for Japan, you can get the same price from Chinese airlines, for some low seasons, and you get 2 checked bags and a meal for free, so this price for AA without anything is not really a deal.

I have booked China Southern to Seoul for 5XX return for June. with free meals and free 2 checked bags.

            • @fl360: Thanks for the input, that's all I really needed to hear. Will likely hold off then, I hate the idea you can be so royally screwed by airlines washing their hands of issues such as this.
