TPG 5G Home Broadband 50/20Mbps $29.99/M, 100/20Mbps $34.99/M for 6 Months ($59.99/M, $64.99/M Ongoing) @ TPG

1230

5g home internet on vodafone/tpg network.

Not all locations are eligible for this, IDK why, may be because they only wanna serve this plan to people who are very close to their 5g towers, and not to anyone else. You can find if you have a nearby vodafone 5g tower or not using RFNSA website

Dirt cheap pricing only $29.99 for 50 Mbps or $34.99 for 100 Mbps plan. Its almost a All time low pricing again for 50 Mbps plan same as 2022 pricing just that first month is not free anymore, and only $2.5 more than 2022 deal for 100Mbps plan.
Modem included in plan, its free if you stay with them for 36 months else non modem return fee may apply upto $300. Pretty sure the modem is a good quality one (has Wifi 7 in it too). 5G Home Broadband modem will be delivered in 2-5 business days. You can plug it in straight away and get online. The SIM in 5g modem won't work in other devices.

if you have an eligible address then you should 100% jump aboard on this, and ditch nbn if you dont care about latency, cgnat, or 100+ Mbps speeds. Way cheaper than any nbn plan.

No lock-in contract
$0 upfront 5G modem^
$0 activation fee
$0 delivery

*Typical Evening Speeds are subject to change and measured between 7pm and 11pm. These are not guaranteed minimum speeds and speeds may vary. You may experience slower speeds during this period and at other times. Max speeds 20Mbps download and 2Mbps upload. See Speed Guide.

^A new or remanufactured modem will be supplied to use with your plan. The modem is $0 when you stay connected for 36 months or return it if you cancel early.

Techy types should be aware that 5G Home Broadband uses CG-NAT. Carrier-grade NAT (Network Address Translation) is a type of network that assigns services with a private IP address, instead of a dynamic public IP address. Our network will then translate that private address into a public address. This means that the following items (which depend on internal NAT) will not work on 5G Home Broadband:

  • Port forwarding
  • Hosting web, email or file servers internally
  • Smart Home systems (e.g. accessing security camera footage remotely, home automation and printers)
  • Remote Access (i.e. accessing your home computer or devices from another location)

If you need any of these items in your home setup, 5G Home Broadband won’t be the right fit for you. Please check your address on our website for one of our other great broadband plans.

    When is the offer expiring?

piff slow speeds I have a 1gigabit fiber connection

      • $$$

        • -7

85 bucks a month for me for a gigibit fiber connection. but have fun with 50mbps lol

          • +6

@kungfuman: Mate, this is a site - a community - where people share deals and help each other save money.
You'd probably get some upvotes if you shared how you got your deal, even if it is unobtainable.
It just seemed like you were showing off. And your second comment just confirmed that it is indeed what you're doing.

            • -8

@spaij: slow speeds is not saving money its torture

              • +1

@kungfuman: High latency is much worse than slow speeds. 50Mbps even 40Mbps and we can still stream in High Definition. High latency affects so much more. Any mobile network or satellite connection will have high latency.

I'm sorry but paying $85 per month is far too expensive for my very limited budget and this is a good deal.

                • -1

@mysterytal: i pay for a fiber connection not a 5g connection its already better value.

                  • @kungfuman: So what's your suggestion for our household? I live on a very limited budget being primarily Centrelink. $85 a month means I would have to eat less and we're already spending as little as possible. I'm currently paying $20 per month for unlimited internet at 40Mbps and in my opinion it's much better "value".

                    • -2

@mysterytal: ok so you don't work?

                      • +1

@kungfuman: I do some part time work. Working from home. Pays minimum wage. Reduces my Centrelink by 60 cents for every dollar I earn, increases my community housing rent which is set at 30% of my gross income and I have to pay tax on it at about 18% including Medicare Levy for every extra dollar earned so I'm not that much better off by working.

    • anyone tried to put the 5G to 4G vodafone/tpg hub VX420-G2H Modem and Tplink MR600, will it work

What a "great" deal considering that I get hardly any reception on Vodafone network at home despite the mobile tower being only 183 m away from me.

    • +1

May be that tower is not good

      • +8

        Or it's not Vodafone towers.

        • They are Vodafone towers

    • +2

Tower distance is not the best way to judge it. I’m 50m away from all 3 carrier’s towers but my speeds are terrible. The towers are not “pointing” the signals to my direction. Even though the Telstra 5G tower is 50m away from me with no major obstructions, my home is being served by another Telstra tower 1.2km away from me. My 5G download speeds on my iPhone is 3Mb/s.

    • Yeah, Telstra installed a mobile small cell repeater on a street lamp 23m from my house and I still drop down to 4 bars of reception often on Telstra, not sure how well these things work. However, this deal is still useless to me as it was 4 years ago. TPG keeps saying that my address is not available and I'm in the middle of Sydney.

  • +3

ive been eyeing this but im already on the vodafone network (felix) on my phone and 5g signal is only at one bar, anyone knows if it would be better as a modem?

    • exactly same situation

    • Check your nearby towers using website I mentioned.
If U have a nearby Vodafone 5g tower then speeds should be good

      • Is 183 m considered to be nearby? Even phone reception frequently drops out in our building. I tested with different phones. It's definitely the network issue.

    • +3

Got Felix unlimited to replace broadband but it was so bad, can’t even stream YouTube, had to rejoin different broadband.

    • I suspect it wouldn't be any different, same network underneath.

  • +2

I prefer felix mobile 40mbs for $20…keep getting new sim every 3- 4 months to keep paying $20 only..beside its the same vodafone network…unless people needs higher speeds than that..personally i think felix is better

    • Felix doesn't allow usage as a modem. They have disabled some peoples services or throttled speeds on finding this out.

On other hand Felix has no such like address eligibility issue.

      • +3

Yeah I understand pros and cons…have used felix this way for years in a modem without any issues…
more over i simply put it in a 5g compatible phone and take it with me outside home when i need it..

        • Currently using my felix mobile unlimited plan for my PC while my NBN is down and I await a technician to fix it on april 1st.

Been doing great all things considered.

      • Doesn't even have to be used as a modem. I never got more than 7 mpbs with them and I only ever used my phone as a hotspot.

    • Felix is limited to 40Mbps but in practice there's not that much difference to NBN at 50Mbps. I'm also with Felix and have just cancelled one service and started a new one with 6 months at half price of $20 per month.

Annoying that it has to be in a phone but keep one permanently plugged in and perched in a good position in the house and speeds are still very good. A speed test will start at over 200Mbps before falling back to 40Mbps after a few seconds.

Latency is an issue being around 50ms. However, is that important? Gaming and the mobile network is not suitable on any network but almost everyone else is just fine.

      • When you can get TPG for $30 and a dedicated 5G router, Felix doesn't make much sense. It is stupid on their end to prevent users to use their plan for home broadband.

        • +1
          1. TPG price you mentioned is for only 6 months.
          2. It is probably not felix choice to restrict usage in modems. That would most definitely be a vodafone condition.
    • What do you do to re register for $20 again? Don't u have to use the same billing address?

      • I have used the same billing address and they get delivered and activated.

        • Do you use the same name? Payment method? I just thought they would be able to detect a returning customer

          • @fufufu: I swap between my name and my partners name every time but I do come back to my own name eventually. A real name is required to pass identity checks. Same payment method.

            • @mysterytal: Thank you. Do you use a modem or hotspot via phone? I found hotspot on phone (low end one) would randomly crash and I would have to reset the phone for it to work again.

              • +1

@fufufu: I use a cheap 5G phone. One that stays permanently plugged in to the mains. They can crash if the power supply isn't sufficient so make sure it's at least a 20W charger. Those 5W ones included with most cheap phones won't be enough.

    • can i use same id for new sim $20 deal every 3 months?

      @kureshi

  • +6

It’s so silly that mobile is cheaper than fixed internet

    • +5

well it’s also much slower tbf

    • +1

its because its nbn (aka nbn + ISP both trying to make a profit) vs Just ISP (with negligible spending and upkeep costs trying to make profit).
once you remove nbn or ISP from fixed home internet picture its easy for thing to be cheaper. (like with FTTB tpg or other fiber internet deals from telco fiber directly).

    • +1

It's inferior to wired networks in every way except convenience. People are wiser to the fact it's not good for most cases and there's much les overhead costs for the carrier than maintaining am fixed line network.

    • @Soldier

it is also silly satellite is cheaper than NBN

Starlink $69/m, 100mbps plan, free Sat Equipment

      First 4 months is $49.

  • TPG uses Vodaphone. Check your coverage via the network mapping. https://www.vodafone.com.au/network/coverage-checker

Your decision relating to signal strength away from the tower. Ditto terrain interference.

    • +3

      TPG owns Vodafone in Australia

  • pretty great if your budget is almost nothing, but must be so unreliable

    • +1

I was sceptical at first but it's been working for a year for me no problems. I guess its a subjective matter and depending on your location. It's saved me so much already since I switched over from NBN.

      • Yeah the guy below says 1 or 2 dropouts a month and maybe that's fine for some people

        • I get far more dropouts on Superloop's slow NBN, definitely going to move off it as soon as I get my cashback, not a good provider. Virtually zero with TPG or Exetel.

    • I used it after moving while our HFC NBN was borked for 2 months, was surprisingly good,no dropouts, the Router signal was 5/5 even if phones weren't on the same, got 200Mbps on the 100Mbps deal and latencies were around 40ms for local which isn't amazing but pretty okay for being Wireless

  • That's a great offer.

  • +3

I'm still getting over the old trauma from being an early days TPG customer 🤣

  • I need a data sim for my car phone for android auto for navigation.
Wish I could find something dirt cheap for this.

    • +2

      Use offline maps like https://osmand.net/

      • Thanks but I need police and traffic cam and speed cam updated live. I know the roads, I just want to be informed about what's ahead. For that, I need live data.

I currently hotspot my phone to the nav phone and that works. But… It's a hassle.

  • +1

i'm curious, why can they offer unlimited 5g data at this price for home internet, but can't offer the same for mobile?

    • +1

they can. they just dont want to.

      • This can't be the only reason surely, otherwise a smaller provider would just buy wholesale and offer this as a plan, undercutting the competition.

        • who's to say, but your talking about close nit, billion dollar businesses. these guys have a tight network and very deep pockets. You cant just get in the ring with the big boys and expect to win. they have a lot of ways of shutting down any competition who dont want play by their rules.

      • Are there any sort of tech limitations? does the 5g home internet operate any differently to the 5g mobile?

    • +2

why can they offer unlimited 5g data at this price for home internet, but can't offer the same for mobile?

With home internet, your modem is locked to use a specific cell tower. The telco knows how much spare capacity they have on that tower, so they sell enough home internet plans to use that spare capacity on average. In some areas the cell tower is "full", so you won't be able to buy 5G home internet in those areas, at least not until they install more 5G capacity in the area.

With mobile plans, if unlimited data was allowed, the large number of people in city office blocks would quickly overwhelm the local cell tower. Likewise in shopping centres and sporting stadiums.

      • +1

gave you an upvote. Not because I like the telco's reasoning….but because it makes sense and i learnt something

        Thankyou!

    • Perhaps they will up the price once it's more established.

  • +3

Tip: If they tell you that your house is not compatible, but your area has Vodafone 5g network coverage on https://www.vodafone.com.au/network/coverage-checker, hang up, call back and just give them a friends or families address as the place of residence/installation and have them send it there instead.

It will work at your place. but dont tell them you plan to use it at your actual address. If you tell them this, they will argue with you and tell you it wont work, simply because they have no idea how 5G works.

    • Hey Captain, on their website, my parents’ house shows as not available (even though it’s only about 300m from the tower), but it is available at my house.

If I sign up using my address and receive the modem/SIM, can I just bring it over and use it at my parents’ place?

      Thanks!

      • +1

if your parents house says they have 5g coverage on the vodafone link (not TPG website) then yes. if not available on vodafone website either, then no.
Being 300m away, it might work? but I cant offer any guarantees for obvious reasons. If you get the deal for yourself as well, take the modem to their house to test?

    • No you dont have to do that !

you can simply just specify your address as the hardware delivery address.
      service address can be anything.
No need to involve any friend or anyone else.

  • +1

Great deal. I switched over from NBN a year ago and no regret, much cheaper and just as fast for me. My plan switched back to $59.99 this month, called TPG and the retention team gave me another 6 months $20 off so its back to $39.99/m. Not as good as this deal but its good enough. But if you can jump on this deal then its a no brainer.

I just did a speedtest, download 68Mbps upload 21Mbps. Never had any issues other than probably 1 or 2 dropouts a month which doesn't bother me.

I don't like TPG customer service though, and now you can't even email them. But if you don't have any issues that's all good. If you have any issues its usually a shit fight to get anything fixed.

    • -1

Are you on 100/20? 68Mbps seems low. im on 100/20 and my speedtest are usually over 100. right now its 212/19.

Maybe move your modem near a window with a direct line of sight to the sky without any roof/awning etc?

      • +1

Sorry I'm on 50/20, so 68/21 (on my PC) is pretty good for me :)
Just did another test on my mobile using wifi, 72/23 so that's great.

    • I was also on that same deal. What did you say to them to get the $20 off again?

      • +1

Well actually I called them to cancel and said I got a better deal with another provider (iinet), then they said hold on a minute and see if they've got a better deal. I didn't expect they'd come back with $20 off so I said yeah I'll take it, saved me from having to change provider…

        • Thanks for that! I called up and they said they could do $10 off a month, i said nty i can get it for $49.99 with iinet. He said let me check if i can do it for that price, then came back with this deal at $34.99 :)

    • It's not a bad deal, given you get the modem for free after 36 months, so if you only pay like extra $5-$10 a month then it's just like extra for modem costs which you get for free after of course 36-6 months as 6 months promo price originally, 30*10=300 so you know the golden rule.

    • Thanks for the heads up re retention team, that's exactly what I wanted to do!

  • +1

It's never available in my area, 5G too congested.

  • The irony of 5G home internet… I’m currently with Vodafone, living right between two towers, but for the last 3+ months, I haven’t seen anything close to the advertised 100/20 speeds (reality is usually 50/5).

Was considering switching to TPG since they are the same infra anyway, and my address is now listed as "ineligible" for the exact plan I’m already paying for. LOL.

I guess unless you can practically see the tower from your bedroom window, maybe stick to the NBN for more reliable service.

    • +1

My place was ineligible. My brothers place was eligible.
Signed up with his address, I picked up the unit from his house and now use it at mine, no issues.

      • +1

You don't need to go to another place LoL,

You can just tell them another hardware delivery address at online or phone ordering, and you'll be getting hardware delivered at that address.

I did that today too, because mine was saying address ineligible but Vodafone signals not bad at all in metro SA at most places

      • Wow didn't know this could work! Doesn't Vodafone do any Geo/5G Tower lock or something?

  • +1

Im currently on thier 5g bb and no issues so far

  • Wish these plans had higher upload speeds. Is the 20mbps upload hard capped?

    • +1

Depends, actually there is only 2 hard limit,

The 50 Mbps plan is hard limited at 100 Mbps download, 20 upload.

100mbps plan is limited by actually 5g capability, so no hard limit on that

      Source https://www.tpg.com.au/sites/tpg/files/doc/Brochure-TPG-5G-H…

That being said upload speeds on high cgnat network is always bad, doesn't matter whatever you do, it's too many IP address before you get to your dynamic IP behind various cgnats

  • Thanks OP, wonder how long this deal will be available for. I'm considering signing up in three weeks time.

  • Anyone knows if they deliver via their own Courier or Auspost?

    • +3

      Most probably startrack

      • +1

Closing this loop - I received a startrack tracking number today.

    • Startrack to home or office.
Auspost if you send it to a parcel locker.

Return parcel is Auspost. Don't throw the box in the bin.

  • +1

Wow, even cheaper than this deal
TPG has not missed a beat for the past 5 months, super happy not having to deal with NBN failure. Hopefully can negotiate OP in a month time once my initial 6 months is up.

What's interesting is that my place is not eligible for 5g home broadband with any other network, so maybe I'm near a good voda tower.

    • +1

Yeah NBN is crap price wise as usual. Never worth it for most everyday users who can get such low price 5g home broadband deals. Furthermore you can easily negotiate with such 5g services for a discounted plan after promo period unlike NBN, so can try to get that extra $20 of a month or something of ongoing price.

      • +2

Thanks for the heads up mate, turns out I'll get my 6th bill on the 23rd this month, hence your post is so timely!
Every dollar counts those days with stupid trump & RBA.

  • +1

Not available at my address. Great.

    • +2

      How about your friend's address?

  • Had 5GB TPG for a year, speeds were fine however high latency so not for gaming

  • After many years, the coverage is still small? No to 2 addresses around me
