[SA] David Rose: Our Hebrew Friend (Comedy Show) - March 21 - 22: $22.30 (Including Fees, Usually $39.80) @ Adelaide Fringe

BARGAIN

It's the final weekend of the fringe and I have two nights left of my show Our Hebrew Friend in Gluttony. In the show, I tell the story of my great grandfather, the stand-up comedian Julian Rose. Before Seinfeld, before Joan Rivers, even before the Marx Brothers, there was Julian Rose. It's a great historical story and has a powerpoint so you can drift off into a daydream if you get tired of looking at me.

The show has been well received and got a 5 star review from Stage Whispers:

This show, presented in a laconic Aussie style is engaging, relevant, non-threatening and reflective of both Australian wit, and the unique Jewish idiom… Rose deserves a good size audience to interact with who appreciate this unique, funny and timely story. The season is short, and ironically is performed in The Squeaker, a ‘pig-themed’ open air venue.

I'll be honest, sales are down from last year, which I suspect is due both to cost of living and the theme of the show. With that in mind, I'd really just like people to see the thing I've made, so if you want to come but don't want to spend the money (or are a little skeptical of seeing a Jewish themed show), please email me at david@davidrosecomedy.com with your name and the number of tickets you'd like and I'll send you some freebies for Sunday's show. You can come and have a laugh on the house.

Cheers!
David

  • Oy vey..

    • Indeed.

      • Nah with all due respect good luck! Give anyone props with the balls to jump on stage. Cheers

        • With balls and no foreskin

        • Yeah nah

    • You didn't read the bit that said "this unique, funny and timely story"?

        • well if you're the comedy expert why don't you give us a joke

        • That's good heckling

    • Perhaps you need to go see the performance yourself to get a better informed opinion.

  • Sent you an email.
We'd like to come and support the show … :)

  • Im not in Adelaide but good luck with it!

    • Thanks! I'm also doing the show in Melbourne and Sydney.

    • Actually, the show is taking place in Adelaide. But good guess.

    • No Ty, I'd rather have it at Adelaide as the iron dome is clearly not working properly :v

      • Maybe the iron is going a rusty shade of orange.

  • This is a repost from last week. You should make better use of a single post instead of spamming for self-promotion.

    • Except that post was for a show last week

    • Don’t know why you’re being downvoted. You’re right I posted here last week, but it was just for opening night. This is for the final weekend and includes the offer of free tickets for Sunday.

  • As a Muslim man I would love to attend if you come to Melbourne or the ACT.
We all need some healing from laughter.
    Good luck mate.

    • I’m doing a few nights of the show in Melbourne, and all the profits will be going to charity. Would love to see you there. Here’s the link: https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1501901

      • What's the cause? Your link doesn't say

          • @sodadiver: When you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no-one, mate …

        • I'm a good cause, can't afford the petrol to get to work now.

        • Depending on sales, it’ll be either a few or one. Right now it’s looking like one charity. I’m thinking it’ll be between UNHCR, some environmental charities, or the fund for the Bondi victims. I’ll canvas the audience and get a sense of where they want their money to go, but ideally I’d love to donate to a few good causes.

          • @sodadiver: For your own sake make sure it's a registered charity, it's easier for people to have the confidence that things are legit when it is rather than e.g. someone's fundraising page

  • According to Google AI the performer is having trouble selling tickets this year, and is having to resort to giving them away. After the Adelaide Writers Week events this year that's not surprising.

    • I give away tickets every year to my shows! But yes, I suspect that it’s going to be an uphill battle to sell tickets to a Jewish themed show this year.

Personally I was unhappy with the AWW craziness and thought it was a silly decision of them to pull a writer from their lineup.

Frustrating that I have to take it into account when my show is about a vaudeville comedian who died 90 years ago, though.

      • Good luck with it mate, if I can manage to find the time I will try to come when it reaches me. Making people laugh has to be one of the most noble professions.

It took me too long to realise but unfortunately there's a branch of people associated with Judaism that want to speak for all Jewish people and have done a pretty good job of convincing others that they do. It's tragic that that a broad and rich culture who's members over the years have contributed so much to free thinking is somehow being subverted for the purposes of colonialism, imperialism and censorship. I am sorry if that's affected you (and looking at some of the comments it appears that it may have), but if that's not you you should hold your head high and not worry about others who may falsely associate you with the aforementioned. Good on you.

  • I saw David's show last year at MICF and found it quite enjoyable - so would happily recommend him.

  • Ewww David!

PS: I just found it funny that your name is the same as David from Schitts Creek.

    • I was here first!

  • This comment section provides so much comedy tho

    • Hatred and bigotry is not funny.

      • Yep, as someone who grew up in the harmonious 20th century Australia I just cannot get used to the new hatreds division and bigotry on Australian soil
Really never thought things would be this fractured in Australia

        • It wasn't all peace and love. There were some very big protest movements and strong feelings. But we worked out the issues in a way that does not seem to be happening now.

        • Well, that’s what happens when you vote in morons like Rudd, Gillard, Albo, Jacinta Allen, the Greens and Teals to socially engineer your country for you. Just look at what’s currently happening in “progressive” Melbourne: shootings, stabbings, firebombing, car thefts and home invasions, teenage street gangs, kids encouraged to alter their sex, racial riots in the streets. Half the population can’t speak or won’t learn our national language. Hatred and mistrust are everywhere. Wearing weird religious headgear in the streets does not help either, as it only serves to antagonise “the other side”, revives ancient hatred and divides the community on religious lines. Welcome to Labor’s multiculturalism.

      • Actually it is. So much of comedy is based on it!

  • People pay for comedy when all the jokes you see in the OzB comments are free?

  • Sounds like a great show, would be great if we could all laugh at each other oppose to shoot and drone strike one another the world will be a better place

    • Trust me mate.

95% of humans just want to live life and get along. The people making the decisions to do those things on all sides are the ones that benefit/profit out of all this fighting. For ‘religion’ and ‘country’, but in reality just for money.

Good luck to David. World needs more comedy indeed.

  • I'd wish you best of luck, but if your show needs a total hiding for you to read the room, then it's on you. Everyone else can see it.

  • Good luck with your show!

  • Is this an anti zionist /anti genocide show or propaganda - Genuinely curious

    • Why on earth would it be either of those?

      • We welcome war criminals like Herzog into Australia freely and actively commit to the ongoing genocide in Gaza. The funding fro pro Isreali lobbies for propaganda across Australia is at all time highs, it's not a stretch to ask.

        • Frankly it’s a very offensive question to ask me just on the basis that I have Jewish ancestry. Would you ask a Chinese person if their show is pro or anti Uighur, or a Russian descendant if their show is anti Ukraine? You clearly have a political axe to grind and I suspect you don’t actually care what my answer is. I’m a Greens voting comedian from Melbourne. Figure it out yourself.

          • @sodadiver: Ah David, your answer was going so well until 'pop' that's the sound of a can of worms opening.
            The Greens! Mayhem ensues…

            • @King Tightarse: To make matters worse, I don’t really like the Greens…

              • @sodadiver: Yeah look absolutely valid - I do apologise. Best of luck with the show mate.

  • How much of the profits go back to Israel?

  • Goodluck with the show mate
