      Thanks Legend and Thanks OP!

Purchased this to go with my new PC 7800x3d + 9070XT (which should arrive tomorrow).

This monitor should be a decent upgrade coming from my Lenovo R27qe 1440p IPS 180hz panel.
Always been a bit apprehensive to go OLED but at this price with those specs seems like a no brainer to pair it with new PC.

Education discount brings this down to $509.57

    • Nice. How to get Education discount

      • Dell membership with education email and you need to provide school id/pay stub. probably not worth it unless you are actually work at a school.

  • Anyone know why the 34 inch is significantly cheaper than the 32?

    • +4

      32is 4k

FYI this is glossy monitor so more suitable for darker room.

    • +2

The glossy coating is better at rejecting ambient light than the matte. It just reflects rather than scattering.

        • +7

When RTINGS wasn’t behind a paywall you could find the hard data that showed this.

Matte coatings reflect more light back. They just scatter it which gives the impression of being less reflective than a mirror reflection.

If matte coatings were better they’d put them on phones that we use outside in direct sun.

  • Too bad it doesn't have many USB ports 😔

    • Use on of your PC’s 8 USB ports?

great monitor. has been a huge upgrade as my main gaming monitor

    • What was your previous monitor?

        CRT SVGA.

Bought this at $533 with code listed in first comment, very excited we're finally at this price point for OLED 1440p.

I'm going to put a Monitors Unboxed link here, but for Gigabyte's competitor rather than this one itself. This is because the AW review was posted first, so includes no comparison to the popular Gigabyte alternative, but in fact the recommendation at the end of that review is… buy the Alienware instead! There are a couple of points where Gigabyte wins, but unless you can get a deal like the sub $500 one earlier this month on eBay, this is best bang for buck: https://youtu.be/amgk7w1WX7I

I bought the Gigabyte deal the other week , but sent it back due to dead pixels. Think I'll pick this up instead.

Thanks OP… looks like it's finally time to retire the S2721DGF.

    • +3

Interested to hear your reasoning. I have an S2721DGF also and feel like it needs to be a 4K OLED with at least 240Hz for this price before I’d consider upgrading

      • +1

My rig will never be able to run 4K in any meaningful capacity. 32" 4K OLED at a good price would be the dream for me too, but not ready to drop that much on a monitor.

If this arrives without any issues, I can just move my old monitor on for a couple of hundred bucks. That'd bring this to around $330… not too bad IMO.

        • +1

Yeah fair enough, 1440p is a nice sweet spot for a great price and still being able to push frames. I’ve got a Xiaomi 34” ultrawide too and would love to have three of these Alienwares but hard to justify the gain. Was hoping you’d give me a reason to pull the trigger 😆

    • +2

i have the S2721DGF monitor too. and also bought the AW2725D previously. i actually ended up returning the Alienware. felt anxious leaving the screen turned on due to burn-in. also every few hours the screen "cares for itself" so it becomes inoperable for a few minutes. will look at getting oled again in near future. sticking with my Dell for now.

      • That's fair. I've always had a habit of turning off my monitor if I'm going AFK. Oof, that second part doesn't sound too great. 😅

        • yeah good on you. unfortunately i dont have that habit of turning my display off - i want to just leave my desk without having to think about it, which i found myself doing with the oled lol.

          • +2

@Jinx: Just set the screen to turn off after 5-10 minutes of inactivity ? It’ll do a pixel refresh on its own after you shut down the pc anyway

            • @piston3461: yeah, unless you're using it for an extended period of time, then it will have to do the pixel refresh mid way while operating - which was what happened to me.

              • @Jinx: On my Alienware it won’t ask me to do one until the monitor goes into standby

      • +2

Thanks that's good feedback. I too have the S2721DGF which I love, and primarily use for work (and gaming when I can) and I was tempted by this, but will stick with my S2721DGF.

    • +1

Exact upgrade I made. Looking forward to not having my terrible patchy back light and radiance bleed. I will probably run a dual monitor setup for productivity though, so it's probably still on the desk for text purposes though I truly wish there was an e-ink level desktop monitor for lower eyestrain.

      • Yeah I'm in the same upgrade camp, going to spin the IPS vertical and have it as a second screen, see if I can make use of it.

  • Have had this monitor for a while zero complaints and I'm usually very picky about a/v stuff.

  • With about $150-200 of a price different now with the sale do y'all think the 27 inch 4K model is still worth it?
I run a 4070 tiS and honestly might need to rely on DLSS if I get the 4K, so problem boils down to really good price for the 1440p or extreme sharpness for the 4K

    • +2

It seems like AW2725Q is using 4th Gen QD-OLED panel while AW2725D is 3rd Gen. In that case AW2725Q is better.

    • +1

With that GPU and how good DLSS (without frame gen) has gotten, I say go the 4K. I've got a 10GB 3080 and figure it's a bit outside a comfortable DLSS 4K for modern games, so I've stuck with 1440p.

  • I've seen some complaints about QD-OLED monitors—especially Alienware models—causing eye discomfort due to PWM flickering. Have you had any feedback or experience with this?

    • +1

Currently on a 3rd QD-OLED panel, no issues with any flickering IME

    • The Alienware AW2725DF (QD-OLED) can experience flickering, often related to Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) or G-Sync, especially in games with fluctuating framerates or during dark scenes. While not all units do it, it is a known behavior of OLED technology.

      • Would I have experienced it running an LG BX OLED with VRR? If so I don't think I've ever noticed the effect

  • Great monitor, sorta bummed I paid $591 for it (edu discount) last September when if I waited a bit more it would be $100 cheaper..

Here is a black screen I made in photoshop which I alt-tab to when leaving the monitor unintended to prevent burn in before the screen off timer kicks in: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/409487/128013/black.pn…

Obviously it would not affect the auto refresh timer but at least it physically turns all the pixels off in that small time window. Also recommend using auto hide task bar and TranslucentTB.

  • +1

Just bought this, should be a big upgrade over my current Acer XB270HU which is over 10 years old now.

I'm not particularly confident this OLED will be able to last the next 10 years before burn in takes it out, but that's not such a tough pill to swallow for this price. It'll be a good stopgap and hopefully in the meantime they come out with 4K mini-LED monitors with g-sync pulsar.
