Has Macquarie Removed Discounted Amazon Gift Cards?

I bought a discounted Amazon gift card from Macquarie a few days ago, as I have done many many times before.

I went to buy another today, the option has disappeared from my account. Anyone else?

I've seen others like Coles GCs come and go, but never Amazon. Any suggestions on where else I can get discounted Amazon gift cards?

Oh dang it, I just checked, they have indeed removed it. Argh, I use it a lot as well, and was just about to buy another GC.

    Bupa has 3% if u r a member.

    • Thanks, I'm with Bupa and didn't know that!

    • I just checked and it has dropped to 2%?

      • wow i literally bought some last night and it was still 3%.

You are correct the thieves dropped it to 2% overnight.

Actually furious about this and I hope it's temporary.

The Amazon gift cards was the only gift card that I redeemed my credit card reward points on. The gift card selection in marketplace has dwindled over the last few years.

I barely shop at Kmart/Big W and I don't shop at the big 2 supermarkets or have a pressing need to buy anything at the other gift card offerings.

Will be writing a complaint to Macquarie about this if they don't show up again in the next week as I've got about $100 of points available.

It might have been Amazon's decision, not Macquarie's

Damn, EB Games got removed last year. I think it was 7% discount. Now Amazon is gone. Guess I'll just have to spend less now.

      • EB Games discount was so underrated

        • You could use them to get digital game currency (from what the staff told me).

    • Yeah they keep making this card worse and worse value. I was with Woolworhs and they migrated me to Macquarie, it was good as first, $50 annual fee and good rewards points per dollar and points redeemed per GC. Then they increased the fee to $150 and make it harder to earn points and needing more points to redeem.

Amazon is the only one I use as well, was shocked to see it gone when I went to redeem a few minutes ago.

The other annoying thing is that they refuse to allow anyone to increase the card limit. I always pay the balance every month and sometimes have to top up mid month if I get too close to the limit because it's smaller than I need. Had the card for 12 years or something, the limit was fine then, but not so fine now with inflation, etc

Where do you buy them from? Is it available from the app?

    • +2

open any account -> "i want to" -> purchase gift cards

      • Wow, thank you, never knew of this

    • +2

on app it is home page -> Click the $ -> Click marketplace -> search by retailer

      • Never even noticed that marketplace!

        • Been using Macquarie for years this is the first time I've heard of their gift card portal lol

          • @umoddbro: Their gift cards were the reason I learnt about their existence, the banking part I never thought about until after signing up. So far I am happy with banking with them.

      • Thanks! Never noticed you could access it on the app, was always buying via website.

can confirm it is gone from the marketplace.

You can use ShopBack's 2.25% cashback by buying the Home Swap and converting it into Amazon gift cards, although it is not as good as what Macquarie Bank had offered. There is also buying from Qantas Marketplace if you are a point collector.

Sometimes you can get bonus credit (to spend on Amazon AU products with expiry) or cashback with Amazon purchases with some banks by buying Amazon gift cards, but they arent as on-demand or flexible.

I can confirm that the Amazon gift card option is nolonger there on my end, and if I had to guess, it may not come back in a long time.

      • I know I checked not long ago and it was there and I redeemed it for Amazon, I might have gotten it on the last day or something.

Anyways you are right. What I posted is outdated. Thanks for letting me know.

Edit: Seems I cannot edit the comment with an update, so whoever reads it will need to read the comment or should I be unpublishing?
Edit2: Also looks like Qantas has ended the 3x pt offer for Amazon gift cards. So my entire comment is outdated.

      • It hasn’t returned , i literally checked a few hours ago

    • Otherwise, use Everyday Benefits

    • It's a good starting point but is sometimes out of date.

  • No more Macquarie
No more Home Swap, via Shopback

    Topcashback 1.6% cashback, is available
    Can get exact amount.

  • Sigh, can't see it either in my Macquarie.

I still see 3% off Amazon gift cards in API lifestyle but I paid $10 monthly.

  • It's also gone from APOD (Australian Partners of Defence), " This gift card is temporarily unavailable"
Discount was 2.5%, Macquarie was 3%

  • AGL rewards still has it for 2.5% if you’re a member

    • Didn’t AGL Rewards shut ages ago?

  • HCF has them for 2.8% discount for members.

  • Spewing about this. I used to buy a custom gift card for 3% off every order. The only other thing I use Macquarie marketplace for is Woolies

  • Looks like I'll finally have a reason to start using our employee rewards/gift card portal. Shame, the Macquarie process was efficient and smooth.

  • Noooooooo, that's annoying

  • My work signed up to Perkbox so not sure if other workplaces also use this app? It works out to be 4% discount on Amazon, Coles, EBay, Woolworths and 5% for Kmart, Jb hi fi, Goodguys.

The only thing is I can’t use my CBA Mastercard (to get points) to pay with because it considers Perkbox to be a “cash advance” so have to use my debit card to pay instead.

  • It seems several discount portals have decided to remove amazon gc as option… and we have not seen any 10% discount for years

    good days are gone?

  • If you're interested in Qantas points you can buy gift cards from there.

    • Looks like you can only buy with points

  • This was all I ever used my credit card reward points on lol. The rest of their gift card options are for pretty sad and boring stores.

I always buy a Woolworths gift card every single time I order a grocery delivery to save a few percent, but I use actual cash for that

    • Assuming you have enough points for a gift card, why you use cash, instead of using points instead? I don't remember how many points for Amazon gift card, but I checked all other gift cards - they're pretty much the same points except the more expensive Macquaire cashbacks.

  • Also noticed this. Checked the wiki and TopCashback seemed like the best remaining option for me. But can't recommend them as they seem to use a third party provider (Runa) who have charged me and then sent a link that returns a generic error message when I try to open the gift card…

    • If you have any issues with TCB at all, PM tightarse, he's a man of the people

Any suggestions on alternatives? Reammy missed getting the Amazon gift card from Macquarie!

Online retail is being absolutely smashed right now. Amazon in particular is trading at one of it's lowest valuations. It's not good and was only a matter of time they cut these discounts.
