Req: Tips for Last Service of 7-Year Kia Warranty

Hi guys,

I want to preface by saying; I'm not a car fanatic. Have a general knowledge but only a fraction of what I've seen on the forums here. Lastly, yes, its a Kia Rio Sport 2019 (so sue me), its my first car. I've heard all the funny quips like 'take it to the wrecker' and whatever else.

SO

I'm taking the car into its last service under warranty in about 2 months.

To take full advantage of the warranty, what should I be aware of? As a greenhorn, I don't want to have them pull wool over my eyes and tell me its all hunky dory when in fact some parts might just barely be holding together and then breaks down the moment I drive out of the service center.

I hope the question makes sense.

Cheers.

goto an independent mechanic and get the to do a full check instead?

    • I would recommend a specialist of that brand.

While I've heard of specialist for Porsche, BMW, VAG, Volvo, Subaru's etc, is there a specialist for Kia?

    • Always use an independant (qualified) mechanic.

pay a mechanic to get a full check - give the list of found issues to Kia i doubt they will 'fix anything' but it is worth a shot

    • yep its good to get a full check and date stamp any issues found so if KIA doesnt fix it immediately but later becomes a problem or worse, then you can go back to them and you have more of a ground to stand on.

      • The issue that OP faces is Kia could get 'say they have check and repaired any issues'

if in 6-12months OP has an issue and the car is out of warranty they will wipe their hands of him sighting 'fair wear and tear' -im sure in 99% of cases if the car running and in reasonable working order they will just 'tick the box' oppose to fix anything as they know the warranty period is ending - you might be able to fight in VCAT but it will be to your expense and time

well technically if the car is running and in reasonable working order then that's fine. one cant expect a 7 year old car to perform like brand new.

the problem is any latent issues - what I am saying is if say an independent mechanic finds like the transmission is slipping or slow in switching gears, then that should be noted and if KIA says its all good still and in say 1 years time the gear box blows up, the OP has a better chance of remediation if he had documented these interactions.

From experience with our 2015 Sorento, we've had issues with the following:

    • tailgate latch (fixed under warranty)
    • turbo wastegate actuator solenoid (fixed under warranty)
    • alternator
    • ball joints and steering rack ends
    • electric park brake
    • wiper washer pump

Be good to your mother is the best tip OP should give them

    • Please don't bring seppo culture to Australia.

  • Customary to buy the mechanic some flowers for the last service, offer him a firm handshake sand say "I release you from your bond".

  • Guys, I just want to say thanks for your contributions here and my apologies for not having responded earlier.

    My sincere thanks.
