Xpeng's Australian Distributor Enters Administration (March 2026)

Xpeng’s Australian distributor TrueEV has entered administration, casting doubt on the future of the Chinese auto brand in Australia and its support for existing owners.

An Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) filing shows TrueEV has had external administrators appointed.

These are Daniel Juratowitch and Barry Wight of insolvency firm Cor Cordis, and the filing lists a total of 197 vehicles which they have taken control of across Melbourne, Brisbane, Wollongong and Fremantle.

On March 19, 2026, these administrators were appointed “by instrument”. This appears to indicate a lender, who provided money to purchase or import vehicle stock, has moved to take control of this stock as the loan terms weren’t met.

In addition to this, there’s ongoing legal action in the Federal Court of Australia. TrueEV is listed as the applicant, with the respondents being arms of Xpeng itself – Guangzhou Xiaopeng Motors Trading Co Limited, Shenzhen Xiaopeng Motors Supply Chain Management Co Ltd, and Xpeng Motors Australia Pty Limited.

This commenced on March 3, 2026, and the next hearing is scheduled for March 30, 2026. However, publicly visible court documents provide no details as to what this dispute concerns.

We’ve contacted TrueEV for more details, and to confirm what impact there is on existing owners.

According to this (right at bottom of article)

UPDATE, 24 March 2026: TrueEV has confirmed that it has not been placed into administration – where an external firm is appointed to manage all of an insolvent business's assets – but rather a receiver has been appointed to sell off 197 older-model vehicles in its stock.

The company says it is still selling new cars, as reflected on its website; this story has been updated accordingly. A statement from TrueEV is due imminently.

but rather a receiver has been appointed to sell off 197 older-model vehicles in its stock.

They should post a deal later today, on OzB for those 197 older-model vehicles.

Interesting to understand the impact on warranties.
The 5 year warranty may be taken over by Xpeng proper, but the extended 10 year warranty could have been a dealer/distributor funded/backed one and may not exist through TrueEV.

    • I’m wondering the same about ongoing liability and consumer protections.
Keen to hear more if anyone knows.

      • From what I'm hearing and understanding there won't be any problem with warranties. The only issue I can see is people that bought the car with the cash back offer may have hard time getting their money back, and should probably contact the administrators.

Will all blow over very soon. Warranties will still be honoured. Xpeng HQ is ready to take over.

    • Doesn’t look like it. Think they are in Deep trouble

This is good? Death to third party distributers and dealers.

    • As an Xpeng owner it's very good. Parts support will increase, so repairs will be done quicker than 7 months and insurance premiums may even reduce to normal.
Right from the start we couldn't get accessories like floor mats, towbar, etc even when ordered with the car. It turns out True EV was broke and couldn't order them. My dealer was upfront and told me to source my own accessories.

      • Inb4 xpeng parent company pull out of Aus 😂

        • Xpeng won't pull out of Aus. TrueEV are more likely to stop trying to compete with them.

          • @stuffandthat: It’s all speculation bro. Let’s see what is really going to happen. Glad I didn’t pull the trigger on xpeng.

  • We’ve contacted TrueEV for more details, and to confirm what impact there is on existing owners.

You can still book a test drive.

  • Xpeng as an NSC also exists so there doesn’t need to be 2 distributors in au

  • We had a presentation at work by xpeng recently, and they were talking about their flying car

    • that's interesting. where do you work?

  • A hiccup with a new brand to australia? Ita happened before.

  • I made a joke one time to my son that Xp Pen opened a store in a Sydney.

  • I’ve read reports that Xpeng China deliberately made it hard for True EV to sell cars in Australia. The brands current presence in Australia is lacklustre. Which is a shame as the cars are very good.

Hoping this means Xpeng actually has a chance in Australia. More competition is a good thing and it’s a great alternative that want Tesla minimalism with basic car features.

    • Not true. True EV didn't have the funds to support all the orders they received hence why there were months of delays with the cars arriving. They were sitting there ready to go. Same with all the accessories. They couldn't afford to buy the floor mats etc.

Xpeng taking over is the best thing for the brand. New Zealand has already got the facelift G6, we should have had it at the same time. There's 3-4 models that will now get released here once they take over, and they have plans to install their charging network too.

      • @stuffandthat - I heard head office made it difficult for TrueEV and that’s what resulted in the cashflow issues.

I agree that ditching TrueEV and becoming manufacturer backed will be good. Hopefully the brand now has a fighting chance in Australia. Xpeng self driving is a serious competitor to Teslas.

  • It appears their cars are wired and not wireless….

10 year warranty sounds good though…
