I thinking of becoming a content creator and influencer in 2027 so this may come in handy for editing. Cheers OP

      Oh good……

  • Can these run games ok? Or is it geared for business applications?

    • +11

Neither, you could buy a brand new PC that's cheaper and faster than this.

    • +4

Comparable performance to a Ryzen 5700X paired with a 2080 Super. Easy to find a complete second-hand PC for under $1,000

  • inb4 RAM joke.

Looked at the RAM before anything else!

FYI the Quattro in this deal is equilivent to a 2080 Super, which last I checked still pulls its weight to today's standard. Not the best application of this though.
This would also serve as a decent SOHO server for practically anything.

    NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 16GB = RTX2080 < RTX3060

    • +2

Awesome at video processing (it's core reason for existing). Average at gaming.

      • +4

It's two grand and seven years old.

If you want to do video processing in 2026 then you're buying a new Mac Mini with M4 Pro for the same money - not this old thing.

A bit pricey for used but i guess there's some niche applications

    • Probably the Quadro enterprise support.

The powerbill on these is eyewatering. I moved from one of these to a mini form pulling 50w. It is literally 10% of the power. The amount saves effectively pays for the openrouter, hugging face or ollama costs.

    • +1

Agree, I looked at some 2nd hand Xeon systems before I realised this

      • I ran algorithmic trading stuff on it cause of large memory and solid builds. Crunch numbers for days. But at the moment we are paying about 20% of the cost of AI. So use their hardware. They're the ones buying it all.

    Joke
Buy a new computer with better specs and warranty for less

    • +2

Got an Apples to Apples example?

    • +1

Agree, a Mac Mini would leave this in the dust.

I'd love to see you price up a cheaper new dual Xeon system with 24x RAM slots, high end productivity GPU, and SAS hardware RAID, from reputable brands.

This isn't a gaming box, it'll game but that's not what it's designed for.

    • I plused you because your right its pricey, and for a majority of the users here they would be better off getting a more suitable system, BUT this is a dual Xeon, in this form factor, Id rather by a used Dell and rack, but in this form factor and specs, yeah, id need to see other options before passing judgement.

This on their eBay seems to be much better: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/188125715477

17% off with MSAVE17 for eBay Plus members

40 cores across single socket, twiee as much RAM, although half the VRAM.

    • True. Good pick

  • I have purchased many items through this seller. They have always been exceptional, even with support and warranty/returns.

  • Remember the HP z640s and z440s use to be sub $400 and sub $300 few years ago with similar ram and SSD with older gen CPUs and GPUs. This really should be tin the same ball park? I am still using the z640

    • +1

Yep, two grand is bonkers expensive for a system from 2019. It's seven years old.

      • 2019 is 7 years ago

        Oh god.

  • Can I just get the Quadro RTX 5000?

    • That will cost you $1880

      • Quadro RTX 5000

        100%

        GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER

        its not that fast really

  • Too expensive for a used server that consumes 200w+ idle, and likely with a noisy PSU.
