We were at a BYD showroom yesterday and it was absolutely packed out with people, whereas the other dealers selling mainly ICE cars were pretty much deserted.
The irony of Trump, a hater of renewables, providing a huge boost to EV sales is somewhat amusing. This really seems like a turning point.

He might have accidentally boost sales for his ex-friend Elon Musk or even more to US' biggest enemy, China. 😂

Yeah, I was just thinking the other day that Trump may have done more for the uptake of EVs than anyone else.

Basically irrelevant unless driving like 1,000km, and even then you 'd be stopping for food/comfort breaks anyway.

With high oil prices, has anyone altered their holiday plans?
Iran away from my booking.

Iran into trouble with these prices

Baghdad for booking non-refundable accomodation.

Oman these fuel prices have ruined my holiday plans.

@freefall101: My plans were blown up and then splattered with the guts of women and children because the greatest nation/s on Earth just wanted to give them some democracy so so much.

@michaelTito: Did I do it wrong? Was I just meant to be lighthearted and avoid pointing at the elephant in the room? Whoopsie.

@michaelTito: But is the more accurate one.
Blowing up to pieces +168 school girls ain't funny.
Ironically we went to Afghanistan so girls could go to school …

suppose ur fave song is by Flock of Seagulls…I Ran

Decided to scale it down a bit and go on a road trip with the family to Walley World.

In the PHEV Family Truckster?

Thanks. Now the theme song is stuck in my head again

My holiday plans will be done before we run out of fuel.
And then i will probably need to buy an EV so we can get groceries still.
If the USA can go sticking their noses in other country's business, can the rest of the world have a say in who is their president?

If the Australian government kept a reasonable reserve if fuel we wouldn't have this problem.

This. Just in time logistics was shown uo to be garbage during covid but the clowns who run our country didn't take this lesson on board - now they've got themselves (and us) into a real mess

What exactly is the problem you speak of?

Probably the alleged lack of fuel and high prices that are being discussed? Would you like it in a pie chart?

Not yet. Supposed to be flying early May, fingers crossed there is fuel :/

Yes, Ive got a holiday in June booked and paid in full with Jetstar
I wonder if Jetstar will now introduce a surcharge and if thats legal after the cost have been agreed and paid in full?

New airline surcharges and increases are usually only for new bookings and not applied retrospectively for already booked and paid tickets

I don't think they can add that once you've paid.

Got a v8. $60 fuel per 100kms still cheaper than a uber

I'm gonna drive my EV, down to the South Coast because it's time for oysters. Will charge it with solar before leaving.

altered their holiday plans?
Why would you? Any self respecting holiday planner should have locked in those flights and accommodation 12 months ago.

And what happened if there is no fuel?

Ask my mate Kev who stored a few thousand litres in jet fuel in jerry cans “just in case”

my mate Kev who stored a few thousand litres in jet fuel in jerry cans
Is Kev short for Kevin or Khalid El-Vahid?
Asking "just in case".

Not there yet.

I think they are ensuring all flights are full now. We’ve had some flights cancelled, and we haven’t seen a spare seat on any plane we’ve been on.
I’m sure the prices will go up, just so long as they shuffle existing bookings rather than cancel, we’ll be winning.

Same. Currently on a trip, 2 more booked.

The Mrs and I decided in 2025 that 2026 would be the year for Austerity, no holidays, no unnecessary spending.
In the end it was forced onto us anyway.

Yes, I car-pooled. Which we should have done anyway :)

Was going to drive 1000k's to see the southcoast of WA.
Bought tickets to bali instead.
THANKSTRUMP

Thanks MAGA

Flanders: I guess we’ll have an imagination Easter holidays this year…

Yay! imagination Easter! I got a Darrel Lea Egg! I got discounted hot cross buns!

Most people here are too cheap to travel at Easter anyway

This should be the standard OzB answer. But don't forget those European river cruises for the Epstein class, they ain't gunna happen without them.

Dubai is cheap at the moment

What is the difference between Dubai and Abu Dhabi ?

People in Dubai don't like the Flintstones…

Emirates and Etihad

~ 1 hr by train, once the lines are constructed

https://www.geplus.co.uk/news/civil-works-tendered-for-abu-d…
The railway line will enable individuals to travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai in 30 minutes, reaching speeds of up to 350km/h.
The line is expected to be operational by 2030.
The line is expected to be operational by 2030.
In the meantime, Jacinta's rail loop (if there are no delays) is expected to open the 26km route between Box Hill and Cheltenham by 2035 travelling at 90km/h.
No wonder Melbourne was chosen as the Best City in World !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@jv: Australian governments are shit at getting useful things done, especially on budget or on time.
But how many hundreds of Indians and Filipinos will die constructing the Dubai-bu-Dhabi rail link? And how many slaves in total will they have constructing it?
are shit at getting useful things done, especially on budget or on time.
especially 'useful'…
eg. West Gate tunnel

@jv: I guess we could have had a high-speed rail link if we were the world's foremost supplier of oil too and had nothing else going for us.

One starts with a D and the other with an A

We have Easter next week and the AFL's Gather round in Adelaide the next.
Australian Hotels Association South Australian is already reporting a reduction of 3-8% Bookings from last year, and thats only bookings, not payments.
When the Cancellation fee is cheaper than the additional fuel cost it will be a no brainer.
and where are the Grey nomads going now?
Stuck in the middle of nowhere in their large SUV's and looking at an "extra" $100+ to fill their tanks for a days drive
We have tickets to the Spa F1 in 3-4 months time with Qatar flights.
We have checked refund policies across all of our accommodation/transport/tours and are expecting to take a hit when the flights are eventually cancelled. But we will wait out as long as we can. As when all of this is over. There is a high chance if we want to do this holiday again. It will be 2-3x the price.

Let them cancel the flights as then you will get a refund. If you cancel, then no refund.

Yea. Thats what were are doing. But need to be careful with the refund period of our hotels too. So hopefully if we do have to cancel. Qatar gives enough notice.

Geez, holiday. Can't remember the last time I had one of those.

Still going to Japan in April All paid up months ago.

hows the itenary looking

Just staying in Kanazawa this time for ten days. It was a bit of a discovery for us with lots of beautiful museums and interesting day trips.
Also the most fantastic dinosaur dig, park and museum at Fukui , two hour's train ride away. Fukui prefecture is where they found Fukuisaurus, Fukuiraptor kitadaniensis, Fukuivenator paradoxus, Fukuititan nipponensis, and other dinosaurs. Very cool! We're going via Singapore, so very straight forward.

Japan has over 250+ days of fuel resever. Highest in the world.

I never make plans, just in case

The airlines keep altering mine…

Was going to go to UAE and UK. Maybe not now.

Chicken

I'm thinking China instead. Visit my overlords.

Better than being 'Fried' Chicken…

I was going to visit modern-day Persia, maybe not now.

I wouldn't Darius go there over the coming months…

I was planning on buying lots of chocolate for easter, now I'm getting a block when it's on sale.

Chocolate has been overpriced at Easter for years…

Never Alter

Yep, no more long, lovely drives in Oz. & probably the price for online shopping delivery will go up.

so has anyone found any bargains on travel? I got an email from a hotel the other day offering a $100 fuel voucher with your stay.

With restrictions on av gas (airplane fuel) i would be worried about any carrier cancellations for return flights, potentially leaving you stranded overseas -_-

I'll be travelling to the club over Easter via public transport anyway

You knew the answer….of course folks did.

Might go shoping for real estate in palestine i hear it is cheap atm

Trump and family have already called dibs on the real estate and unveiled their slick master plan a few months ago

see this is how the elites stay elite!

Anyone Altered Their Holiday Plans?
Yup, bought a diesel 4WD

Smart, now is the time to a buy a potential vintage diesel vehicle for cheap.
The EV saved the long weekend.
