is this an atl for a 27" qhd 144hz lcd?

    • +7

incredibly cheap way to get triples for a Sim rig that's for sure

  • is this even worth buying? How does this monitor compare with the gigabyte GS27Q-X and Alienware AW2725DM?

    • +4

      its cheaper

      • +3

        144 vs 180 vs 240

also price doubles and then some

        • +4

Increasing hz is a diminishing returns situation. What's the response time on the other 2?

    • +1

I got the 260 hz version, and it can get a little warm to touch, and the VESA anchoring isn't the best, as depending on the mount you attach to it, it could be difficult to put on and off.

      Other than that, love it.

  • Is this that bad to be so cheap? Been looking at the GS27Q-X and Alienware AW2725DM deals lately.

    • +3

It's a good value budget 1440p gaming monitor. 93% DCI-P3 colour gamut which is not bad, typical for this price range. A year or two ago you would've had to pay a minimum of $250+ for these kinds of specs.

      • Hello. Do you think the other two i mentioned would be that much better? Thanks.

        • +2

Alienware AW2725DM has 95% DCI-P3 colour space and 180Hz refresh rate, so it's barely any better than the Philips Evnia, and not worth the significantly higher cost IMO.
          https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/alienware-27-qhd-gaming-moni…

Gigabyte GS27Q X has unknown coverage of DCI-P3 but I would assume it is similar, in the 93% range as the other monitors. Much higher 240Hz refresh rate but also much higher cost, around double the price of the Philips Evnia.
          https://www.gigabyte.com/Monitor/GS27Q-X

Personally I would just go for the budget option and buy the Philips Evnia and stick to 144Hz refresh rate, I don't think the added cost of the other monitors is worth it, but you'll need to examine the specs and differences yourself to make a good decision.

Of course, you'll need to factor in your CPU and GPU as well — if your hardware can't reach 240 fps, then there's probably no real point in buying a faster and more expensive monitor.

@deadpoet: That was great. Thanks bud. I was just afraid of getting something only to find out the community is avoiding it. Probably a lot better than my ancient ASUS VC279H 27" 1080 monitor.

    I bought this last time.

Great monitor except the viewing angles are noticeably slightly poorer than other monitors I've used - there is a definite shift in colours and brightness when you are even slightly not in front of it.

    Other than that it's great.

Also noticed that it disconnects at random times when it's 144Hz. Not sure why that happens but it doesn't happen when it's at the slightly lower Hz, maybe it's my HDMI cable.

Does not come with HDMI cable.

    • +1

Does it come with a Displayport cable though? I think it does, which would possibly handle the 144hz better.

My ViewSonic gsync 1440p display from ages ago has an overclocked mode that glitches out a bit even over DP so I just leave it on 144.

        • +1

Well it depends on the use case. We've got a bunch of lenovo tiny PCs at the office with one hdmi and one dp out, so I used one included DP cable with one of the two monitors I got recently to set up at work. I use DP cables at home too.

        • +10

Most half-decent GPUs have more DP connections than HDMI

          • +4

@S Baldrick: ive worked at govt defence transport superannuation companies with thousands of pcs

            all displayport

            it aint going anywhere

the most profitable videocard, the nvidia quadro is all displayport

        • Tell us more about how your only experience with monitors is TVs plugged into game consoles at home.

    • +6

Use DP and you won't have this issue.

Solid cheap monitor, but my last two crapped out within 6 months so I've imposed a Philips embargo in my house for a bit. Hopefully just bad luck on my end.

    • +1

Oh no! I got two of these for my boss 😭😬

    • +1

I've only had phillips monitors, all still working. But probably just lucky.

  • +2

would this be suitable for a 3 monitor productivity setup eg MS word, excel web browing etc

    • +2

should be. I'm using a couple of AOC Q27G4 monitors for my setup. 2560x1440 on a pair of IPS monitors with high refresh rate is good for low eyestrain and working on spreadsheets.

YMMV though. If you need more columns, you may be better off with an ultrawide but there aren't many ultrawides that are IPS.

My experience with philips monitors is an old 32inch IPS 4k60 monitor that i bought second hand from australian computer traders on here a few years back for around $200 and its still going strong and working fine for spreadsheets at work.

I've been using a 1080p 27" Phillips monitor as my primary work monitor for years (second 24" in portrait for docs), I'm sure this is good enough for those seeking the same.

  • is this a worthwhile upgrade over a Asus PB287Q?

    • ASUS PB287Q is a 28" 4K/60Hz monitor so it would be a sidegrade.
      https://www.asus.com/au/displays-desktops/monitors/business/…

Philips Evnia is 27" 1440p/144Hz, so you get worse resolution but much faster refresh rate. I'd say the Evnia would be far better for gaming, and the ASUS PB287Q better for office work and productivity (not sure why ASUS calls it a "gaming" monitor with only 60Hz refresh rate).
