I don't quite understand all the people who say to get an XT - but I did anyway over the 9070. The 9070 seems "good enough" for almost all use cases.
Agreed. RX 9070 is more power efficient but most people usually will upgrade to higher tier if the price difference is small.
XT seems to rate abot 10% better in terms of performance, but its also currently 10% more expensive.
$90 extra to make the GPU last 1-2 years more before it underperforms is kinda worth it tbh
It's why my 1080ti lasted longer than my friends 1080's before upgrading was necessary
That’s a funny coincidence… I’m buying the 9070XT to replace my ASUS Strix 1080, that finally died last week.
1080 vs 1080 Ti is very different to 9070 vs 9070 XT.
Compared to the 1080, the Ti had 11GB vs 8GB VRAM and about a 25% performance bump.
The 9070 and XT have the same VRAM and only a 10% performance difference.
@Shrew: Yeah right, so it’ll last 10% longer assuming sys requirements grow at the same rate.
Which could be 1 year extra for the price.
Sounds worth it to me, price - performance is equal
So did ya get a xt one for how much?
I will pick Sapphire over Gigabyte
Would RX9070 or RX9070 XT be now usable for local Ai generation? compare to my current 3060ti?
You'll get better compatability with your 3060 andlots of the AI tools. But the 16gb vs the 8gb of VRAM is going to be helpful on the AMDs for holding bigger models. NVidea's CUDA cores will still likely make your 3060ti perform better though.
Thank you, I will HOLD for now
I disagree, LLM needs vram for better models and context length, cuda core is less important, because if u cannot load the model, it will offload to system memory, then it will be much slower.
Image and video gen is a different story.
7900xtx is a great alternative, it can load 30b and 32b model with 4 bit quantization, with spare for decent context length (AI memory capacity)
@s20525xxx: Thank you for the advice. I’ll keep it noted and do more research and comaprison. 7900xtx looks really good -24gb VRAM wow! I will just need to upgrade my PSU if I consider getting that(650W now)
@Kemikemi: 650w psu can work with 7900xtx. If u can avoid connecting the monitors to the GPU, it can free up more memory
Which AI generation? ROCm support for ComfyUI is a nightmare, buggy, random crashing, some models are incompatible currently. I also had trouble attempting to run Zluda which would always timeout with memory management issues or it would give me random errors. RDNA 4 has also been particularly finnicky in this area, and I think you would have a better experience with RDNA 3.
For LLMs, ROCm is really nice, LM Studio has been working great. Vulkan also runs about just as well.
Apologise for asking with so little context earlier. Thanks for the great info. I want to use both image gen and LLMs, and I remember seeing something about AMD working with ComfyUI on Windows, so I was curious about the performance. I’ll do a bit more research and think it through. Thanks again.
Would mwave be currently the best deal, promo ends today they have $99 of $999 purchase could get a XFX or sap rx9070xt with a $100 other item for $900
That's what I did earlier. Made my 1200x500 mouse mat and pop filter for my mic cost only $7 on top of the gpu 😆
theres like 7 9070 xt listings cheaper than this if you're not specifically looking for gigabyte https://www.pgrid.app/au/gpus/radeon-rx-9070-xt
Gigabyte has a noisy cooler. Would recommend avoiding for the other, cheaper, better coolers.
Interesting that the main picture in their listings says "FREE FREIGHT" but then still wants to charge me $9 postage when i put in my postcode…

Just some context. Not sure if such bundles are available in Oz. But given those prices in USD, I feel the deal price is pretty good for Oz right?
What happened to GPU prices are going to skyrocket?
RAM and storage prices went crazy. So demand for everything else has fallen off a cliff whilst everyone waits for prices to get back to normal.
Im looking a bit of a fool with my 9070xt, ended up not really gaming and want to downgrade, then find its just about the only gpu dropping in price, feel like ive gotta find someplace to trade it atp
Compared to a $1400 5070TI this is a bargain, same raster performance, sure DLSS is probably more mature and supported in more games but at a $500 premium it's not worth it in my opinion.
you forgot path tracing..
Hodl or just buy?
