  • Have been waiting for this for a while.
Anyone knows which lenses are good for driving at night?

  • +7

I just got a pair on Saturday arvo, called them, and they honoured the offer and will return the money on pick up. Thanks op

    • Thanks for this. I also ordered new glasses on Saturday. Hopefully they’ll also honour the offer for me.

  • Not related, but can anyone recommend a shop that does designer prescription sunnies? thnx

    • Not sure if this answers your question, but you can get lenses made with various tints, for any frame they have in store. That's how I get my sunnies done these days. If that meets your 'designer prescription sunnies', you're welcome.

    • Clearly does. It's an online store though so you need to have your prescription elsewhere, but if you time the sales right they are by far the cheapest as they are owned by Luxottica itself. They also do Transitions lenses if you are into that. I just got a pair of Ray Ban glasses for $359 shipped with transitions, ultra thin lens and C-shield coating which were by far the best price I could get for prescription designer glasses (with high prescription), in comparison OPSM was quoting me ~$800 for the same exact thing.

  • Can I get 2 pairs online using my insurance limit?

  • +3

I always use this offer to get two pairs of the rimless which retail for $399 a pair. They come with the thinner lenses at no extra cost and so get a pair for reading and a pair for distance. There is not out of pocket with my health insurance.

    • +2

I was just cleaning them and the temple snapped. Rimless frames are so fragile.

      • Take them into specsavers, they might outright give you a new frame if they find yours was defective at all.

One thing you need to make sure you do is hold the frame from the nose bridge to prevent exerting a level of force that breaks them. Additionally, if you need to squeeze the lens hard to remove smudges it's probably a sign you should be using lens cleaner.

      • Yes they are. I get two new pairs yearly so i have backups.

    • +1

I've been paying and extra $200+ per pair to get the thinned lenses and anti reflection.
Can you explain how this works please. The rimless pairs on their website say Not Available Online so I'm assuming you can't use this code.

      • +2

Since you're in Sydney also recommend checking out Owndays for another option that sells their frames with thinner lenses free

        • Thanks for the tip! I'll check them out.

      • +1

I think for the rimless you might have to visit a store.

        • There are different levels of thinness. Do you know if they give you the thinnest lenses with this?

  • +12

They make it all up when you ask for anti reflective coating and thinner lens

    • +1

Should anti reflective coating just be the default at this stage? Other than cost, is there any reason not to get it???

      • I didn't get it on my last pairs. Next time, I can't see the benefits now that I use them more.

I always paid for it the past.

Try to always get the same type of you can. One breaks but you can swap things about from old ones, but they often keep changing 🚼 the designs to stop this. Especially when a hinge breaks etc

I am always astounded but never really looked into it so maybe there is a simple explanation other than "money" but how do they get away with charging an extra $100 for polarising for example when I can go to Kmart and buy a pair of "polarised" sunglasses for $10 including the frames?

      • +1

The same way McDonald’s charges $5 for a cup of postmix with ice.

      • -4

Because custom lenses aren't mass produced, plain and simple. A lot of custom lenses are either made in Australia or places like Japan for Nikon, Germany for Zeiss etc. Specsavers use local manufacturing. So unless you are also happy to be on $10 an hour for your wage, pay up.

        • +3

Let me absolutely assure you Specsavers do not use local manufacturing, but rather each individual order is shipped from overseas (mainly China)

    • what do they charge out of interest?

have always got glasses at oscar wylee but getting bored with the frames and want to try something else.

    • You mean they make up the price? I'm quite sure the price of those add ons are set.

      • Nope it's an extra

        • +1

Yes that's what I mean, they're an add on (optional extra) that generally have a fixed price.

    • I used this deal to get the same two pairs I got a few years back. With anti glare and polarized lenses it was cheaper now by about ~$70 from memory.

  • been getting glasses from them many years and its kinda getting boring - what other shops are good? Slightly better off now can afford better frames…

  • Will All frames be $199 in this deal. Even $399 frames?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16392227/redir

The $199 offer frames are very basic and also does not include any coatings

  • I used to like the deal of "No Gap" for some health insurance.

  • Sucks that safely glasses are excluded. I can tell my vision is getting worse and it's brutal when I update (2x standard, sunnies, and safety). At least I can claim the sunnies and safety glasses on tax.

  • What's the logic behind excluding $149 glasses?

    • +2

I would say they want to make at least a $199 sale. If you buy cheaper glasses their profit is lower. All the frames wholesale are pretty much the same price. The fashion brand name is just a selling feature. Lenses all cost the same. Its also why they limit the offer to a maximum of +6 lens strength. As over that +6 lenses wholesale cost more. My wife use to work for an optical wholesaler and the mark ups are enormous.

      • You can get two pairs for $199 in-store (just not online), however, anyone with a ±6.00 prescription who can afford to would choose to upgrade to higher index lenses.

  • a great deal, and for anyone after Australian made frames: I've been using https://dresden.vision/au for years now (and so have many at work) they regularly have 50% off or '2 for 1' deals, so ending up being a fair bit cheaper again than specsavers. If you like their style, they are a winner. They don't have many shops, but if you know what you want they are good to order online.

Went to 2 local stores, they have taken all of ultralight $399 frames and most of $349 (titanium and aluminium) frames off the display. I wonder how they magically disappear this week when they were all in display till last week.

Got the copy of prescription instead, wasted precious fuel.

  • Anyone else get a spiel about the $399 rimless being excluded because they come with thinner lens? T&Cs don’t seem to have the same opinion… This was at Broadway (NSW), Pitt Street store didn’t even have any rimless on display.

  • I went to a Specsavers today - they said offer includes all including Ultralight, and they didn't have any on display because they don't have room. However you can look at them as they wilt ake them out of storage Also they told me offer end 25.4 not 30.5

  • For sunglassess - Does extra thin & light makes hugh difference compared to standard? I mean - It's $120 extra.

Also - I have never worn a polorized sunglasses. I was talking to rep at specsaver & she said I dont like polorized because "while driving - road & on coming cars windscreen looks like a rainbow". Can someone please share the polorized sunglassess expereince. & is it worth $100 ? Is it big difference in vision ?

  • Went to Blacktown, and they declined this offer for the $399 frame range.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
Which shops in Sydney have honored the $399 frame offer for you?

    • honoured here in Adelaide, got one 399 Ultralight and 1 Titanium 349 :-)

    • +1

I eventually found North Sydney and Chatswood (Victoria Ave, didn't try Chase) stores both honouring from $399 range

    • I've purchased from Rouse Hill store couple of times. They keep $399 and $349 range on display and never had any issue with the offer.

  • Can this be combined with the $30 off Specsavers Discount Voucher for 0 Pts
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/955744

    • +1

yes, I did that at Rouse Hill store. I combined this offer with $30 discount voucher and $50 Specsavers out of pocket benefit (I used live better points for it).

      • It makes me walk more than 10k steps 4 days/wk for earning points

  • Picked mine up today. Tommy and Hugo. Great service at Rockdale!
