First Time Travel Plane Ticket Prices?

I'm planning to travel from Sydney to Medan Indonesia maybe this Thursday for a week, looking at the prices any discount or know where should look at?

Prices seems to be around $2000-$3000 that's pretty high might be petrol prices considering people mentioned Bali costing usually only $500 for return.

I had the same response. This post may as well be:

'Looking to book Thanksgiving holiday with 3 days notice'

      or

'Want to travel in Golden Week this week, it's expensive, please help'

      or

'Why no flights? CNY this weekend Help!'

      Wtaf…

You want to buy a last minute ticket departing at the start of school holidays, at the start of a public holiday extra long weekend, at a time when jet fuel price has doubled, and people who were going to go to Europe are changing their destination to Asia? Yeah, prices are going to be high.

You looking to travel at short notice to a location that doesn't have a lot of demand from Sydney a day before the easter break. Your not going to get Bali type prices where there are multiple direct flights a day and people book in advance to get the cheap fares.

Prices seems to be around $2000-$2000

Pretty big spread on those flight prices… Hard to know where to start unpacking what is going on there. The low end seems too low, but the high end just seems too high… I think somewhere in the middle would be pretty accurate though…

wow been here since 2010 and cant even book a flight

As long as you'll be time travelling anyway, why not take your holiday first paying with credit card and then look back on what would have been the cheapest way to pay for it then go back and pay for it before you charge it to your card in the first place. Or just go back in time and not even book the holiday again because you already experienced it.

What kind of plane that goes to Indonesia uses petrol?

    • +1

A Cessna 152 with MoGas STC can and is capable with the correct flight planning. Not sure what the flight time would be though.

Syd to Jkt $1070 via Qantas. Catch whatever connecting domestic flight you can get, defo it won't be another a grand.

You want to go this Thursday over easter and are surprised by high prices? Seriously?. Since I have nothing better to do I had a look on google flights. Looks like you can go with Scoot for ~$1600 with a 19 hr layover in Singapore or Garuda Indonesia for ~$2300 via Jakarta.

You can get $500 flights when you book early OR don't go in the school holidays.

Since this appears to be your first time travelling (I assume internationally)… Have you got a passport?

        • Passports are expensive at this time of year. Anyone know if there are any discounts around?

Yes just got it picked up today via 2 day express as the trip is on Thursday, never traveled overseas actually and was trying to save the money instead of investing it entirely on plane tickets of that makes sense, I know it is last min thing but think prices should be so horrendously high.

It is nothing to do with fuel prices being high. You are going over easter weekend AND school holidays. Even if you don't have kids people might still be travelling this week. Not to mention anyone trying to get to Europe is going via Asia so all the airlines are extremely busy therefore demand goes up as does prices.

I just checked for the week after for example it is $1200 ish. It is under $800 in May. If I were you I'd save some cash, do something local this weekend and go a bit later in the year.

Last minute flights can be a thing. It is just unlikely to happen during the school holidays.

Why shouldn't last minute flights not be horrendously high..?

        • -3

Because petrol is already high, why pay more?

          • @DEvok:

            already high on petrol

            explains the topic 🤔

@randomusername2017: I have an idea maybe changing currency to USD would convert it to cheap Aud rate? I'm thinking also contacting travel agent as they provide cheaper rates compared to public rates from what I heard.

              • @DEvok: You only saves $2 outta that, why bother?

Just buy the damn tix, you've got only 1 day left.

      • I know it is last min thing but think prices should be so horrendously high.

        Kejutan!

        Selamat jalan!

      • as the trip is on Thursday

Is it on Thursday? You don't even have tickets yet.

Might be primarily international flights (plus I think that it is school holidays - most touristy prices increase during school holidays), but Domestic prices seem to be much less than expected, at least across Virgin & Jetstar.

Cooli to Tully next week about $200 each way. I was hoping for a ballpark of $400 but was expecting to be disappointed.

You look at Google Flights then book directly with the airline.

the OP posted this one day too early

  • lol wtf r u okay

  • Ask for a "Time Traveler Discount"

  • I'm planning to travel from Sydney to Medan Indonesia

    Why?

    • Because Indonesia won't come to Sydney.

      • +3

it will if he waits long enough it will, Australia is currently moving at 7cm/year towards Indonesia

  • I checked flights to jakarta with Garuda (good leg room, meal on flights?, free checked baggage) at $1500 returns. Plenti of domestic flights options with similar returns costs of $300is return, but most of them will be for the day after as you will land in afternoon and no more flights to Medan after that. You can also book all with Garuda almost $1800.

Can't help it as you are flying out of Sydney on the expensive time.
