Good price, but there is also $30 / tyre fitment cost at a fitment center in my post code.

    • +3

Fitting prices vary by location — worth checking tyretrawler.com.au
which also links the retailer to its available nearby fitting centres once you've found your tyre.

I struggle with even a bicycle tyre so a car tyre would be near impossible for a wimp like me!

      • +9

Can you post a video of yourself fitting tyres and then balance them?

        • +2

wait for a few days, his car just crashed

      • +3

Surprised you haven't bought them all

      • Lighter fluid and a match?

      • +1

Speak for yourself bro. I struggle to lift a car tyre, let alone fit it. Waiting for a good gym membership deal to get some upper body strength happening.

        • +1

Skip the gym membership! You have 4 tyres you can strength train with!

  • +4

Thanks for the tip about tyretrawler!

    • +3

No problem. It's quite a new price comparison site, growing daily!

      • +1

Thanks, these are my favourite type of sites

  • +1

so these old tyres hence the discount?

    • How would you ever know until you see them?

      • +4

He doesn’t know. It was a question. Not the best phrased question however.

        • +1

          Question mark saved the day

  • Does anyone run 16" tyres these days?

    • +5

Ha — fair comment. 205/55R16 is actually still one of the most common sizes in Australia (Corolla, Mazda3,
Golf, Civic all used it for years), but it's a valid point that 17" and 18" are now the default on new
      cars.

Still very common on 2010-2020 Corollas, Mazda3s and Golfs

plenty of them still on the road. Tyre Trawler shows deals
across all sizes daily if you need a different one.

      • Ah got ya now.

Yeah last i changed a 16" tyre was the gf's, but that car was from the late 2000's

      • +2

My EV has 16" tyres, for EVs larger wheels mean worse range, to the point where you shouldn't be paying more for bigger wheels. On top of that the rubber is more expensive, the ride is worse for most people, and the tyres and wheels are more prone to damage. It's actually a shame that companies are going to bigger and bigger wheels and dropping the smaller ones from their lines, and has only to do with trying to look cool

    • +8

I work at a tyre shop and this is by far the most common passenger size these days. You find it on the base model of multiple brands

    • +4

      probably millions, no cap
only newer cars and of course with AU's infatuation with SUVs are going to 17,18 inch
its funny bc smaller wheels are more efficient which is realllly funny when you got EVs with their higher end models pushing higher rim sizes

    • Yeah, this happens to be the right size for my 2011 Megane

  • how long is this discount gonna stay for may i ask? my rego is due and i have a feeling they will tell me to change tyres

  • +1

TyreBay can change their price anytime. Could be hours, could be weeks.

  • +1

I chose a different tyre. The shipping is 225 and the cheapest fitting price around me is $192 for 4 tyres plus $100 alughment fee.

    • +2

      alughment fee

      made me alugh out loud

  • +7

Tyre Crawer is not very useful.

It doesn’t list the fitted price, you have to look at the fine print below. So it is comparing fitted to an unfitted price which is rubbish.

It doesn’t have a way to weed out the rubbish brands.

The low to high price sort doesn’t work properly as well.

Seems to be largely an advocacy service for online retailers whom they get a commission from

Tyre Trawler earns affiliate commissions from eBay Partner Network and other retailer programs when you click through and make a purchase. This is how we keep the service free. We do not inflate prices, hide deals, or bias results in favour of higher-commission retailers — results are always sorted by the lowest real final price for you. Affiliate links are not labelled separately as they are present on all retailer links.

    • Probably OPs own AI created site.

Edit; just saw it's now marked as associated FFS

      • Why do you think it's AI created?

        • They all have the same look and feel

    • Yes you're right, the search UI is not perfect yet…but no commissions here — Tyre Trawler is a free independent price
comparison tool that scrapes retailer websites and the eBay API directly. No retailer pays us, no results are biased toward anyone. Good timing on this, we just removed that disclaimer from the site. It was placeholder legal text added during development that didn't reflect reality.

      • i.e AI added it and you didn’t check ?

  • Damnit, got 18 on mazda 3

    • I got the 18 versions on mine and they arent as good as the RE003s

    • Fit povo pack wheels from a Neo.

  • 10% price beat at Bobjane if that is more convenient for you, Mycar also price matches

    • +1

Mycar has a very limited selection of tyres, iirc

  • So the actual price was $137 as per the price on website?

  • +1

Wow!!!! Got Pirelli Scorpion Verde 225/60/R18 for $160 fitted during Black Friday sale. This may come out be similar price after fitting costs.

  • I have these tyres and not impressed. Grip is good but going over bumpy or uneven surfaces makes my car unstable and I easily lose contact on the road.

    • +1

what tyre pressure are you running?

      • -4

i wonder what cars you are driving lol?

and how hard you are driving your shitheaps?

        • +3

Yeah thanks for the stupid assumption. My previous continental tyres had no issues.

      • 32psi

    • Did you get alignment after/with fitment, and how's your suspension doing?

      • Yes. Suspension should be fine. I noticed the issue immediately after getting the new tyres.

  • -1

The grip of the Pirelli tyres is pretty poor, it feels like the car could slide off the road at any moment when cornering at high speed, which never happened when I was using Bridgestone (on the same car). Also, noisy as hell. That said, with 50% off, the price is excellent so can’t really complain.

    • I find the opposite to be true

      • we're probably sharing annecdotes on different levels of pirelli tyre

these are dogshit corolla hatchback tyres

like what actually uses 205/55R16??? the MG3?

i've only driven pirelli performance and they were too expensive for what they are… massive grip, low noise but they wore out FAST

but while they had tread they were a joy to run wet or dry

        • Your probably right

  • Shopback?

      • Yeah but how? Can't see anything for tyrebay on Shopback

  • +1

For what it’s worth, I have Michelin Pilot Sport 4 on my car in this size, and they are by far the best tyre I’ve ever driven on in 30 years of having a licence. I know - they’re not a bargain, but they kinda are with the comfort and performance you get from them.

    • username checks out

  • +2

The tyres are great and have amazing wet performance, probably the best tyres i've used so far. I have used them(215 size) on my 2020 Civic. Just a word of caution tho, they dont have a lot of tread life on them even as new, and being softer compound they might wear out fast.
These ones frequently go on sale at mycar during christmas at about the same price

    • +1

I've run through 2 sets of Powergy at 20k each set. Ran them at 36. Switched to Michelin Primacy 5s now hoping they will last a bit longer.

      • I was surprised how little tread life these had even as new. However, i absolutely loved them and driving a hard compound budget tyre on my Cupra right now, makes me realise how important it is to have good performance tyres

        • Yeah in fairness they never let me down and i pushed them pretty hard. Always gripped well and i only ever got one puncture in that 40k pretty much at the end of life of the first set so I replaced instead of repairing it. Just not much longevity in them.

  • Richard Pusey approved?

    • yeah he copped 4 of 'em

  • +2

I call BS. Firstly, why would a mid-tier tyre be $247? Secondly, the shop selling these normally sell them for $137, so it's not much of a saving. They'd be about $102 each with a '4 for the price of 3 deal'. This shop would be more well known for discount tyres if everyone else was selling for 'an average of $247' while selling them for more than $100 less. So the 'averaging' is obviously dubious and vague for a reason. Why not list all the prices of those you averaged? I just looked up the first other tyre shop that came to mind, and they're selling these for about $3 more, at $126. I can't be bothered spending more time looking at the prices of other stores, but you must have found at least one selling them at more than double the going rate, unless you're just bad at math/s. And not a single neg, and a bunch of plus votes, which is generally strange for an 'associated' account, so it must be more of this ozb cronyism. Seems like a very average tyre too, riding on the 'Pirelli' name of the 80s. 50% of who's RRP? Certainly not the store selling them. And not a single genius bargain hunter doing any fact-checking. Someone tell me I'm mistaken? Have I made an embarrassing mistake because I really want to go hardcore Ad hominem right now, but I'm 'treading' carefully in case.

  • And the account was created 13 hours ago… yet that hasn't stopped 80 zombies and counting.

  • what size would fit a suzuki vitara 2018 model, standard car? any help would be much appreciated

    • +1

The size that is currently fitted to it ? Go and look at the tyres 👍
