Aw, I wanted a full set marked in feet or would have bought them.

Any versions with other limbic systems?

    • I think most people prefer hands.

  • What’s the FLASH30 code? Does it work on anything else?

I’m a filmmaker, these aren’t “$7k mugs”, they’re a matched cine set built for actual production use. You’re getting consistent colour/contrast/flare across all focal lengths, proper mechanics (long focus throw, geared rings, no focus shift), and T-stops that are accurate. The FF Classic line specifically is tuned to take the digital edge off; softer contrast, nicer highlight rolloff, controlled flare, so you’re not fighting it in post or trying to match shots from mixed lenses. That consistency across a full shoot is the real value, not just “sharpness”.

They also make money if you’re actually working. Lenses get hired out constantly either on your own jobs or through rental. …And unlike bodies they don’t age out every couple of years. A full set like this can pay itself back over time because it’s something productions can rely on and keep coming back for. For most people here it’s obviously overkill, but in a production context it’s a tool, not a luxury item.

Where might you have seen this style of lens used? The Batman (2022), Dune, Joker, Once Upon a Time In Hollywood

      TIL thanks for the insight!

Amazing response, @kaybrr, thank you! Amazing to see the broad range of vocations in the OzBargain community!

    • -3

Can't imagine any Hollywood movies being shot with a Sigma kit.. Batman, Dune and Joker were shot on Imax camera lenses that you can't even buy lol…

      • +9

        That’s mixing a few things up…

The Batman wasn’t IMAX lenses, it was shot on ARRI Alexa with vintage anamorphic glass.
        Dune used custom Panavision lenses.
        Joker used vintage rehoused lenses.

“IMAX lenses you can’t buy” isn’t really how most of these are shot. it’s usually high-end cinema lenses (often customised), not some secret format.

Also, Hollywood isn’t the benchmark for whether gear is valid. Most working shoots aren’t $100M features, but rather commercials, branded content, music videos, indie narrative and that’s exactly where sets like this live.

Sigma cine lenses are already used professionally. They’re just not the default rental-house choice at the very top end yet. Same thing happened with a lot of brands before they became standard. If you think 7k a lens is expensive…

Different tools for different jobs. Not everything needs to be Panavision to be usable.

        • +1

Batman, Dune and Joker still all used Large Format 65mm cameras that these lenses wouldn't even fit on.. I mean, those examples all have award-winning cinematography with lenses costing $100k + each if you can even buy them! A more suitable comparison to where you might have seen similar kits like this used it on shows like Wentworth, NCIS Sydney, docos and maybe the odd Tropfest short…

    joke post for sure

  • +1

Imagine how much petrol or diesel you can buy for $70K…

    Not much…

    • +4

Why? 30k off is still a bargain

      • And I added 10 of them to my cart to ensure the OzB minimum stock level was available!

I agree though @thousandsuns - it is a pretty niche product. And pricing up there with all the EV deals!

        • Nice gesture, but I added 25 to my cart. So, yeah.

Is Scorcese an Ozbargainer ? someone let him know please.

    • -1

Don’t think Scorsese would be seen anywhere near sigmas. These are pretty vanilla lenses in the film world.

      • -1

Its what the moon landing film studio was filmed on

        • Pretty sure that was shot on iPhone.
