[Joke Post] 7-Eleven Fuel Lock Stacking + 69c/L Govt Discount (April 1 Trial, VIC only?) @ 7-Eleven

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this yet, but something strange happening with fuel this morning.

Filled up in VIC and the numbers didn’t line up. Board showed 287.9, but final charge came out at ~218.9/L.

Asked the cashier and they mentioned there’s a one-day federal fuel relief trial (April 1) applying an automatic ~69c/L discount at the pump.

Gets better, I had a 7-Eleven Fuel Lock active, and it looks like the discount stacked on top of the locked price.

So roughly:

  • Fuel Lock price: 287.9
  • Govt discount: -69c
  • Final paid: ~218.9

Didn’t scan anything extra, just paid as normal and it applied automatically.

Not sure if:

  • VIC only
  • Certain locations
  • Or some kind of glitch/limited rollout

Might be worth trying today if you’ve got a Fuel Lock saved.

Enjoy!

Pretty tasteless joke given the current crisis. Your past April Fools posts have at least a hint of cleverness or absurdity, but this is just baiting people who are genuinely struggling to pay for fuel right now. Read the room.

    • +5

Agree, not the best topic for a joke post.

    • -1

Calm down, your petrol price didn't go up because of the joke.

      • +4

Yes, but people believing the joke will go out, fill their tank, only to find out that this discount doesnt exist, when they couldve possibly filled up at a cheaprr servo

      • Some people feel burdened by the fuel price increase one way or another. It can be a bit cruel to give them false hope.

    • -1

It was satire. Not a policy proposal. You’ll survive.

      • Each year people are getting more and more offended by April Fools jokes. We're certainly losing our culture. They miss out this year from the rest of us.

    Happy April fools

If it’s an April Fools joke it’s the most expensive one the government’s ever run

  • +7

    Govt discount: -69c

    Checks date.

    • +7

OP is just trying to get people in trouble for harassing servo attendants by asking to be given the 69 special…

      • +5

        I've already tried. Great success.

        • +1

Nice. The most I got was the occasional free donut from the girl that used to work at my local.

          • +2

@mapax: It's how you use the donut that's important.

  • +6

Nothing like forcing the price down to reduce demand when supply is reduced?

  • +5

No deal, my local had no prices displayed it was free!!

    • -2

Yeah that’s part of it, “dynamic pricing mode” apparently.
If the board’s blank it just applies the adjusted rate at the pump, so they might actually owe you money. Mine didn’t show properly either until I started filling.

  • +4

Don't waste time and electricity for this.

  • +3

Costco is ~222.7 in Epping, Melbourne, no mucking around needed.

  • +1

    69c? Nice!

  • +1

  • +1

The fuel excise has only been cut 26c

  • +1

EV users having a laugh (not me)

  • +1

missed opportunity could have been 67c off… 6….7….

    • +1

Thats only for the youngens that can't handle a 69.

      • Too much of a mouthful for them.

  • +1

Ah you got me you (profanity) 😂 well played.

  • +1

    Thanks OP.
    Bought 420.

  • Isn’t this the fuel excise discount kicking in?

    • +4

by the time they finished what they have left and with the new truck delivery, you looking at a week wait and I bet you won't get all 26 cents saving, surely those oil companies can continue to say oil level going down and price need to continue to increase so lucky if you can get 10-15 cents . Finally consumers never gets the full benefits

        • Haha, that’s what I was thinking. Those 10 jerrys won’t get em far.

          • @mapax: 10 cans was all i could get. Went to bunnings and people were panic buying the jerry cans too
