7-Eleven Fuel Price Lag (26.3c Cut)

The 26.3c excise cut is officially live today (April 1, 2026), but 7-Eleven hasn’t budged. I’ve checked their prices nationwide and they are still sitting on "pre-cut" prices, while Shell and Reddy Express have already dropped across NSW.

  • 7-Eleven: Likely claiming "stock-on-hand" (waiting to sell fuel taxed at the old rate).
  • Competitors: Choosing to cut the cost immediately to win customers (?)

While legally grey, it’s poor practice when others have moved.

What to do now?

  • Avoid the 7-Eleven Fuel Lock for now. You’re locking in the old tax.
  • Shop Around if you are in dire need today - Use NSW FuelCheck; Shell/Reddy are the winners today.
  • If 7-Eleven doesn't move by tomorrow, hit the ACCC reporting line?

Is your local 7-Eleven still charging pre-tax rates?

My 7-eleven is still charging the pre-tax rates. So I am filling somewhere else

I will stick with 7-eleven and wait for them to drop the prices

I never liked the 7-eleven chopper idea, so I don’t care

      Oi, Anthony!

      Who cares?

Just use the Fuel price apps to shop around.

All the servio are mostly the same price so the 7/11 fuel price lock is rather useless.

Oh, really… Please add my "surprised Pikachu" meme to this…

Literally none of the fuel stations around me have dropped prices.

Dropping the fuel excise just means that fuel stations now get to pocket an extra $0.26/litre

They're a business at end of day.

My servo has reduced by 15c but not as much as others which have gone to 30c discount.

The simple answer is to not go to 711… At end of day it's no different to when 711 is the cheapest but BP/Ampol is the most expensive. Doesn't really need a whole post about it.

    • People see the world as they see fit.

    • It is different mate. People might have loaded up 7-eleven gift cards and what not.

Same as people investing upfront in Coles/Amazon gift cards, Qantas points etc.

7-eleven app is showing old prices, but actual prices are cheaper in store and on servo saver app in Vic.

They got OP good this April Fools

      • Not going to them until I can get my chopper GPS locked in.

Yesterday's news said wholesalers wouldn't pass on for a week or two 🤷‍♂️

    • I took a screenshot (via PetrolSpy) when the reduction was announced. ( Local Ampol has 98 octane for $ 277.9). Next day, same price.
The day the reduction took effect, I checked - $251.6. Exactly 26.3 cents off, and on the day! So I waited till today, Still $251.6. PLUS 4 cents off for NRMA.
I see now the states aren't arguing about GST anymore, so Monday it will go down about 5 cents.
That's 32 cents off so far.

      Hang in there panic buyers!

Where's the 'I've moved states and don't have 7/11 fuel in my new state :-(' option?

  • +1

It is simple, when the prices go up it goes up immediately due to market pressures. When the prices are to go down, oh you have to wait because this batch of fuel was higher price.

    • When the prices are to go down, oh you have to wait

221.9 at pretty much all Shell/Reddy Express today…

Nobody is forcing you to pay the old price.

  • They gotta pay the legal wage now remember

  • About half have dropped their prices by about 25c/litre in my area. There's around 25 stations

  • You would think Coles would jump on this opportunity to offer 10 cents of 20 cents via the docket redemption. They wouldn't even lose that much out of it, it would be free publicity, and shoppers will shop more to get the vouchers.

  • Corporate versus franchise operation difference.

  • Looking forward to petrol stations running out again as everyone goes nuts buying fuel today.

Terminal prices had already come down prior to today so even the ones falling likely have further to go.

  • It depends on their contract with the wholesaler. They may have to empty their tanks before the tax cuts apply.

  • -1

They pay excise on the wholesale tanker they buy, not as they sell it to you, so they have to empty their existing supply before you’ll get 26c off, I expect that to be roughly after Easter haha

    • +9

The other week when prices shot up they were saying it didn't go by what they paid for the supply in their tanks, but by replacement cost. Now it's the other way around?

      • +5

It's always the "way around" that results in them making the most money.

      • I’m just passing on what was said on the news. I don’t really know. I’m sure whichever is true they will game it regardless
