great drone. hand gesture control and obstacle avoidance are amazing. very easy to use.

  • -3

We have the 3 and love it! Great for family vids

    • +2

      There is Neo 3?

      • +6

No Neo 3 exists, probably means Mini 3. The Neo 2 is far more user friendly and safe. My expectations have been greatly exceeded to the point I would recommend the Neo 2 over a Mini 5 for most people. You can safely fly the Neo 2 indoors with no concerns, its safe and robust.

  • I'm actually thinking of getting this, seems like a good deal

    • +2

      keep us updated

      • +2

Heard back from the Dr. yet? I would've expected an update by now.

        • +1

          I think he's busy with a patient

      • -1

Ended up ordering it refurb direct from DJI, $329

  • +2

Is it worth paying extra for the controller?

Would want to use this for the usual human-tracking high angle family photos, but also to check out the gutters for blockages

    • +2

Yep, definately worth the extra for the controller if you already do not have it.

    • +1

Get just the drone and control it with a smartphone using DJI Fly app. If you find it's limiting you can purchase a controller on FB marketplace for much cheaper than new. I think you should be fine with just your phone though for those use cases.

      • +3

I believe you will still need to purchase the transceiver attachment as well for the drone to be able to connect a controller.

    • +1

depends on how you use the drone for
for those pre-program modes like following, fly and shot in circle etc
      you dont need a controller

if you would like to fly it like a RC drone and distance over 500m
its a must with the controller, the phone that using wifi only have a short control distance

      • I'm looking to buy this to follow me down the mountain when I snowboard, can I do this without a controller?

        • +2

yes, following mode doesn't requires controller

        • +5

Yes you can. No controller needed for that.
I think all Australian resorts and National Parks have a ban on drones though.

          • @tai gui le: Thanks and good point. Was planning on using it in NZ but appears they have a similar restriction anyway.

        • Countries like China get DJI to share flight information to help enforce restrictions at a local level. E.g. If you fly over a lake in a metro area in some city in China, you might get an SMS saying that you just entered regulated airspace and to please retroactively submit a flight plan via UOM.

None of that in Australia. Just adhere to the law and local regulations. It would be interesting to see if CASA ever tries to setup a similar UOM service and get DJI to share flight information to help enforce regulations instead of relying on so much manual overhead.

        • You may need to consider the battery life depending on how long it takes to get down a mountain.

  • The Neo 2 looks like a great little first drone to buy! Contemplating…

    • Original Neo is a fair bit cheaper at the moment at JB

      • +1

The Neo 2 is an improvement in every way except for sizing. I miss the fact that the Neo would fit in my jacket pocket, but the Neo 2 doesn't sound as annoying, has better object avoidance and range, adds really cool gesture control, and has a better camera stabilisation system.

If the original Neo is really, really cheap then it's probably good to add for fun, but if you want a really easy-to-use small starter drone that has good obstacle avoidance but is very versatile, the Neo is better.

  • I bought one last year with the controller and extra batteries. It’s a great little drone to fly and it’s fast.

  • Worth the upgrade from dj mini 2?

    • No

      • In your opinion why? Why not? I've got the mini 2

        • +2

A mate has the Neo 1 and Mini 2, and as they are both good to fly, they give you a similar experience for the

regular person. There are features on the Neo 1 & 2 that some bloggers or sporty people would like,

the Mini 2 still a faster stable drone to have fun with. The Neo can fly in FPV as well as manual mode

with the capable different model controller and/or visor which is cool.

    • +3

I have both dji mini 3 and Neo 2
      and have been enjoying both

I actually use Neo 2 more given it has self flying mode, lighter to carry and obstacle avoidance
mini 3 still great for longer flying range and better wind resistant

    • 100%. As mini 2 doen't have any safety feature that neo 2 has. And neo 2's follow me feature is really amazing. It avoids everything itself even in the woods and keeps following you which is mini 2 cannot.

  • +1

Have been considering one for a while but not sure whether to go for drone only or wait for a deal on the fly more combo like this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/945508

  • Can't seem to find one in stock anywhere in Victoria. Shame…was a good price

  • wonder if i could play a game of soccer with this following me around :)

    • +4

Illegal to fly a drone within 30 meters of people. $1650 fine.

You can get a 360 camera and use a harness strapped to your back though to get similar shots.

      • +1

Or just hire a film crew to focus on you for the entire match like Zidane

  • There's no stock anywhere in WA that I can tell

  • +1

Is it good for inspecting 2-level house roof?

    • +1

yes, I have been using Neo to take photos of cracked tiles and solar panel conditions

      • I have the same use case (single storey) what does everyone recommend?
I've thought about the mini 4k, but hadn't considered the Neo.

        • +1

Neo has the bumpers that protect the blade. If using it as a novice, then Neo is much better.

    • This is how I convinced my wife we needed a drone.

      • +1

It's how I've convinced myself I need one too. I just need the money to burn. Wanna inspect the hell out of my chimney.

  • Great deal, especially if you’ve got a discounted Ultimate gift card.
Edit: Just got JB to price match, works better since my TCN gift card can be used there but not at Anaconda.

  • +2

I got one of these recently and it's blooming brilliant, perfect starter drone, and all the things it can do without the controller or even phone is pretty remarkable.

Not very helpful but if you have and family or friends visiting China you can get a hefty discount. A friend went back to see family and picked up the neo 2 with controller and extra batteries - retails for $709 here, was $490 over there.

  • I lost my mini in a lake, but stop have the controller. Worth getting this?

    • +1

if yours is a mini 3 or lower, the controller will not work with Neo 2
Neo 2 needs RC 2 or RC N3 (comes with mini 4 / mini 4 pro or above)
mini 3 or lower use RC or RC N2

  • Honestly… I have this, its great, and the kids have the aliexpress GT3 Max drone… marginal difference in performance and features for a significant price difference. The only thing that makes the Neo 2 good and is why they sell the drone without the remote is if you pair it with the RC2 controller for the significant additional range

  • Where do people fly their drones? I checked in VIC and drones are banned in almost all national and state parks :(

    • You can fly drones in a lot of state forests managed by DEECA.

Parks Victoria might not allow drones in state parks and national parks.

You can fly drones in local reserves unless Council has some specific regulation.

Kids croc's on sale for $45, and still free delivery. Good deal

  • if I don't have any previous/existing batteries and controllers etc, I guess I will need to go for the $669 package?

well looks like it is sold out anyway, next time…….
