Risky booking, I know - hopefully things have deescalated by then. Note insurance almost always does not cover war - so keep this in mind. It is a risk - no insurance for delays, etc. But the airline still has some responsibility to compensate (as it's an EU flight), and rebooking etc (doesn’t apply when due to war apparently). Consumer law also provides a level of protection.

Outbound Dates:

5th-21st October (All dates appear to work)

Inbound:

13th October ($1130)
29th October ($1130)
3rd-30th November, 7th-9th December ($1110 - $1160)

Possibly various other dates available, their API doesn't allow bulk look ups that far ahead (3 months limit) so I can't pull the data directly. Have to look up each date manually (ie via Google Flights).

Found via Google Flights - if you can't find fairs on Etihad directly, go via Google Flights and simply click Etihad for redirection. May be a special offer. This is the lowest price I've seen it in many years for this route, but it all depends on the global situation at that time… Flights may get cancelled, you may end up stuck for a few days, etc.

In before "move this to competitions".

    • Title clearly shows Manchester UK

at time they made that comment it may not have based on revision history

Mods did update it, original was MEL to MAN

I’m just use to using the airport codes these days, know most the common ones lol

      • Per other comments made here, at the time of posting OP simply wrote MEL to MAN — Moderators changes it to Manchester UK, which is exactly what I was asking for clarity on.

      Mandurah WA

    • Manchester UK, airport codes

      MEL is Melbourne

      Mods updated title

      • -1

What codes are we using? Cause Manchester is EGCC, and Melbourne (Aus) is YMML. /s

        • +1

IATA airport codes, the standard for transport / passenger ticketing.

The ones you quote are ICAO, used by pilots and ATC, but not overly relevant to passengers

“IATA codes are 3-letter, passenger-facing identifiers used for ticketing, baggage tags, and timetables (e.g., LAX). ICAO codes are 4-letter, technical identifiers used by pilots, ATC, and flight planning, offering geographic structure (e.g., KLAX). IATA is for commercial use; ICAO is for aviation operations and safety”

Mods have updated title anyway to specify Manchester (UK), but if you google “MEL to MAN” it does comes up

          • @Dyl: I know, was just a joke cause I only use ICAO in my day-to-day.

            • +1

@Justwon: Aw gotcha, I thought the reply was from the original commenter at first lol

I’ll remember to put the ICAO codes in the description next time just for you! 😂

We went through MAN recently - easily one of the worst airports I've experienced in recent years. Good location though if you need to visit the North of the UK.

    • No tribalism but Liverpools worse and they fine you for dropping off passengers outside also.

      • That's a UK airport thing. On that trip, we flew from Heathrow to Istanbul. We were blown away when we saw the signs charging you £6 to drop off! Our Uber driver was telling us that all UK airports charge that!

    • Agreed. Have been through MAN a few times now and each time I feel like I'm being punished for my sins. The security is ridiculous and god forbid you get a false positive, you'll be waiting 20 minutes for someone to check your bag.

      • I didn’t mind it personally, but from memory I did have priority security.

Arriving in London I hated a lot more, the uber spot is literally up a floor inside the carpark with barely any signs. Was a mission to find… Not to mention the flat 5 pound fee for drop off / pickup (which is passed on).

The rudest airport staff too in my experience, I asked for assistance with directions to the uber area from an information staff member and it was basically “how dare you” look, with a throw of her arm pointing in the general direction of where (to the carpark)… No mention it’s up a floor or verbal instructions.

    • I didn’t mind the airport, what did you dislike about it?

Granted I had lounge access and priority security lane so didn’t get the true experience…

  • suicide mission

Saves me a trip to Switzerland then

      • I’d have to look at deals for that, probably costs more

The procedure can apparently be costly too

  • Quote from Loyalty Lobby Etihad is operating 80 passenger flights today (April 1, 2026) from its Abu Dhabi hub, a significant increase.

    • Free view of fighter planes as you leave!

      • And close up view of missiles and drones in operation 😉

  • +4

Flying via Abu Dhabi tomorrow, can’t wait for the totally uneventful views.

    • +1

Might see a fighter plane outside the window, but they’re getting out fine as far as I know currently. They’ve been escorting and the flights climb much quicker, I doubt there’s a risk to planes in the air though - once that happens it’s a political mess for them and allies step in.

The risk is if they fire at the airport again and flights get cancelled - it’ll be a mission to get hotels funded.

By October should be nearly back to normal hopefully, won’t be an issue if we’re lucky.

      • I'm mostly concerned about unintercepted ballistic missiles/drones, and more worryingly, friendly fire. But YOLO.

      • Once it happens Iran will declare that as a victory

cloudy with a chance of a shahed 136

Yeah controversial deal, but the price is amazing. If it actually flies and makes it…

  • +2

Who remembers the Etihad flight to Azerbaijan a few years ago? I was one of the lucky few actually got to use that booking…!

    • Nope. But please link the deal, sounds interesting.

        • That's the one. After about one year later, we (family of 4) ended up going to Egypt thanks to this booking, and for this trip of life time, flights only cost us $1300 or something return (for all of us). That was the deal of the century and I still can't believe that Etihad actually honoured it for us.

    • Yeah it is a risk, made sure to note that. And insurance won’t cover it either.

You are still entitled to both EU cancellation entitlements and consumer law though, so there is some compensation rights no matter the reason.

      • You aren't entitled to the usual European cash compensation in extraordinary cases such as war.

        • I’ll edit op regarding that, wasn’t aware.

Consumer law still applies but it’d be a mission to get much out of them.

    • How did you manage to go, as flights were scheduled during Covid lockdowns, and Aussie borders were closed then…

      • +1

Yes, that turned out to be a lucky draw actually. Many people booked but ended up cancelling their orders due to Covid. I held on, moved my booking from flight centre to Etihad directly and then kept postponing that due to Covid. After more than a year, we finally ended up going (not to Azerbaijan, they changed that to Egypt for us). I think Covid was the reason we got lucky. If others also held onto their bookings, airline would have cancelled all of them. Since 99% people cancelled, I think they just honoured the fare error to just a few of us. Extremely lucky I guess.

  • Thanks. I was planning a trip to Italy around that time with my partner. We got both fares for $2300 alltogether with 2 niight in a 4 star Dubai hotel. Sydney - Rome. We can reschedule the flights till April 2027 for free. I have flown Etihad before and they were great.
I booked on the site directly as I figure it would be easier to make a change if needed.
    :-)

    • Booking through google flights then redirect to Etihad is usually the same as direct, the flexibility and bag charges are extra always though. The url Is even /upsell lol

You can get them like $60 cheaper through third parties, but then you lose that protection and conditions - the conditions are completely different usually.

Either way you still have consumer law and EU flights law for things, which EU law is very strict and consumer law you can argue with some fight.

      • Good Advice!
Though the very cheap 4 star hotel ($70 for two nights) didn't pop up on google link.

    • which dates did you use for the $2300 fares?

      • In late October, early November. Need to check dates when booking to get the best price / flight.

  • Be mindful that almost all Travel Insurance policies exclude cover for transits through locations affected by either
    - War or
    - 'Do Not Travel' DFAT Advice

    • Currently, is that relevant to October? Original stuff said a few weeks, then a few months… idk now. I put the disclaimer on insurance in OP because we never know, but the offical advice I don’t think has yet extended out this far.

One can hope, but we never know in reality.

      • -1

Insurer will look at when flight was booked and what was DFATs advice on that date.

        • Insurer won’t cover war in any case usually, as per OP disclaimer.

          • @Dyl: Yes I know.

You asked if this is relevant to October. It can be. It doesn't matter if the advice hasn't extended that far. If October comes and flight is delayed/cancelled/etc., due to war, you won't be able to claim that this was unexpected as DFATs advice at the day of the booking was "do not travel".

            • @SolidlyIrresponsible: It’s typically a blanket exclusion when it’s due to war, no matter if it was foreseeable or not or what the current advice is. Even if that advice changes, most policies won’t cover anything war related.

It’s a risky deal, but the price is definitely decent if it actually flies.

  • thank you! booked for my Mum's birthday and my niece's half term holiday, perfect timing. $1600ish after adding luggage and seat selection etc but still a very good price and including 2 nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel 'for free'. I decided the 'upgrade' was worth it as 14 hours in a middle seat would suck, and the fare becomes refundable albeit with about $500 penalty.

  • so is this the price for return flights?

    • Yes return. You just need to select an applicable outbound and inbound date to get the pricing. There’s decent pricing on other dates but a few hundred more at a minimum - the dates listed are the lowest. Plenty of inbound options, not as may outbound.

Some didn’t show up on their site directly, but did on Google Flights and it allowed clicking through to book directly, so go via Google flights if the dates aren’t working.

  • If there war do they get to uk at some time maybe day or two later
