Note: Less than 3 years of security updates remaining on this 1+ year old model

Arguably one of the 'mid-range' phone still has microSD slot.

    • If u have a different phone brand can you clone the storage into a different brand?

Or has to be same brand?

  • +2

Price beat at Officeworks, Bing Lee only a few dollars more at checkout - $349.36.

  • +1

Not sure if it's still a thing with MediaTek chips being incompatible with custom ROMs?

I'm holding out hope for GrapheneOS but still not sure which models might get it, and would have doubts about this phone.

    • Think it's only going to be new 2027 models

Urgh Motorola you wanna be a playa with your Signature phone, please piss off the bullshit 3 years security updates on all your phones then maybe more people will buy your 'not so bad' phones.

  • Doesn't the Edge 60 have less features then 50?

    • +7

      Fewer features.

      • +2

I approve of a fellow Stannis Baratheon.

  • +1

as usual not compatible with my libre sensor diabetic patch 🤦🤦

    • Why wouldn't it be compatible? Can the app not be installed on it?

      • Maybe like DJI app working on just about anything… But not a pixel 6a?! (I got screwed!)

  • +1

I "upgraded" from my Moto Edge 30 Ultra to a Pixel9a.
Feels like a bit of a downgrade in reality.
I miss a lot of features from the Moto, shame the updates are irregular with Moto, and I wanted something more secure.

IMHO I feel that in terms of value for money and experience, the Moto was better than the Pixel.
    YMMV.

8a here from various G series and I miss chop chop for light so much

    • +1

I went from Edge 30 Ultra to Pixel 9 Pro XL. Definite upgrade. Only thing in missing us shake for torch.

I'd expect any of the Pixel As would be a downgrade given they are entry level.

    No wireless charging
USB C v2.0 without video out
Maybe I’m expecting too much from midrange phone, but these should be common in 2025, no?

    • +1

      Not in mid range no

  • Love to hear from someone who's had one of these for a while.
Initially people were saying that the "edge" design was a pain but didn't really elaborate. My wife desperately needs a new husband, sorry phone, and she likes to use a wallet style case. I'm assuming that a wallet case has no effect on the edge design?

    • +1

There are chairs you can get for that.

It's mainly the design of the curved edge everyone's worried about. Having personal experience here, they are very prone to damage, hard to protect and can be quite pricey to repair when you do break the screen.
Functionality wise, they are perfectly fine and any case you do get will just attach top and bottom of the phone.

    • I've been using one for a year, caseless and it's a great phone. The grippy back is wonderful and helps significantly in making the phone easy to handle, edge curves were odd at first but you get used to them - plus there are settings to adjust the edge sensitivity, etc.

Not having wireless charging isn't an issue since it charges very quickly via cable, so a quick charge before heading out in the evening is a bigger positive to me.

It can struggle a bit with lots of apps and browser tabs open but I'd expect that for a phone at this price point. I came from using a Pixel 10 Pro Fold - so it was refreshing to have a phone that I didn't have to care about.

It does everything I'd expect out of a modern phone, at a price where I don't have to baby it. I've now since gotten a few scratches on the screen but I don't care, knowing I'll probably replace the phone in 12 months. I found the screen to be more resilient than I expected, I haven't dropped the phone (nor come close to it yet) - I'd say that would probably be down to the grip of the phone back. It makes it so much easier to handle. I can't say how the phone will be usability wise in a wallet case, but I think part of the enjoyment of having a phone this cheap is being able to use it without a case.

I picked up this phone from the recent Bing Lee deal, coming from a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, and honestly I’m really impressed. It’s noticeably lighter, feels just as smooth (if not faster), and I like that it’s closer to stock Android without all the unnecessary pre-installed apps. It also has its own secure folder feature, just like Samsung. The only area where it doesn’t quite match the Ultra is the camera—but considering how much cheaper this phone is, I really can’t complain. Overall, great value for the price.

I've never understood why you'd want glass on the back of a phone, it just adds unnecessary weight & much easier to crack.

    • May I ask why did you switch from a s23 Ultra to this when the s23 Ultra is technically the better phone? I myself have a s22 ultra that developed a green line across the screen. I like the phone but often wished it was lighter/smaller.

      • Dropped my phone, broke the screen, and apparently my upgrade privileges too—wife said no to the S26 Ultra.

  • Read a review on Motorola phones in general. Stated mid range Motorola phone now only get one operating system update then about 3 security updates if that to save money 💰.
Compared to the Samsung A17 which would get 2-3 OS updates and 6 years of security updates. The latter seems to hold price more.

    • +1

The older ones stopped after 3-4 years. This one says updates until March 2029 on the Motorola website.
The newer ones are 5-6 years, 70 Fusion is until Nov 2031 for example.

I think that's plenty personally and would be upgrading a mid-range phone after that time as it would likely be slow by then anyway

  • Upgrade from a S20fe or much the same? Worth going to the puxel 10a for $300 more?

    • Still using an S20FE, awesome phone. Replaced the battery a year ago. Not a heavy user though.

      • +1

Yea phones still ok just the usb connection is loose and its frustrating in the car etc

    • If you decide to go for the Pixel 10a, also consider the 9 Pro for $350 more.

  • OW didn't price match. Apparently it was a different SKU?

    • I was able to price match at my local officeworks, picked it up for $326

Jb hifi matched the in store good guys price for me this morning. I don't think they had much stock though, it took old mate a while to find them and only had 1 colour.

    • +1

Yeah I got mine price matched at JB as my local goodguys and officeworks have no stock. My JB had like 5 units.

  • Just retired my edge 30 ultra, price matched in jb hifi… So far so good

This or the Pixel 9? ($150 more)

    • How many os and years of security updates will the Pixel 9 have left?

If memory serves it was 7, 7 so support up to around 2031 vs the 2 years left on the Moto - that would make the decision pretty easy for me.

      • +1

This phone was released 8 months later than the Pixel 9.
        According to GSM,
        Edge 60 F: Android 15, 3 major upgrades
        Pixel 9: Android 16, 7 major upgrades

Pixel 9 is also obviously going to have better hardware, camera, w/l charging.
Those are the specs, but wanted to hear real-life experiences for both.

My only hesitation of leaving Moto behind are the "chop chop" torch and "wrist twist" cam gestures, faster charging (68W vs 27W) and being $150 cheaper.

    • Where are you getting pixel 9 for that price?

  • If OS and Security updates aren't a big thing for you save the $150 and go for the Motorola.
