    Still on Netflix too yeah?

    • Should be the full catalogue and better quality too.

      • How much better? ABC iview now at FHD quality and reasonable. SBS on demand not sure. Let you know next time I check the rip 🤫🤣

        • Depends on your plan but minimum 1080p, SBS On Demand is only 720p.

Note these are 25fps not the original 24fps.

    • oof, appreciate the heads up

Not as bad as seeing 30fps (29.97) compressed to 25fps, music doesn't sound the same, show doesn't play the same - crazy 🤣

Amazing movies. Almost as good as Shark Tale.

Re-watched them last time around. Still magical!
As per the prior thread, watch the Japanese version using kodi or a youtube downloader to avoid the ads

The stories are largely escapist and or nostalgia themed; it makes sense people who have been through some shit, or have been excessively excluded from life, gravitate to it.

For example, I went to Taiwan and people said Spirited Away is inspired by a place there…. But it turns out that was complete BS.

Was a nice place still though.

I dont know if I'd call people obsessive or strange because they believed a local rumor.

It wasnt until 2008 that Miyazaki did the interview to explain what inspired him either; so if it was before then, it was a long (friendly) debated topic. Especially since he explained it was a 'Edo Japan' and 'Western' theme mix - makes sense many would see something local to them in it.

Its the animation's quality that is exceptional. Even some of the old animes I used to watch, Patlabor 1/2, Ghost in the Shell (Movie and TV show), etc surpass most cartoons and anime released today.

    • I love these movies. The animation style is exceptional with lots of little details, it has a nostalgic hand-drawn feel, the stories are long and quite complex, and the characters are memorable. Even as purely artwork, I can see the time and effort they put into each frame, and it makes me appreciate it more.

  • Do they have other languages? Nausicaa and princess mononoke are my fav as well as porco rosso

Miyazaki is overrated, they need to add Whisper of the Heart and Only Yesterday.

    • +1

You forgot to add the goat that is Pom Poko.

    • +1

Who do you think wrote Whisper of the Heart…?

  • With the exception of 'The Boy and the Heron', I have recorded all of these from free-to-air TV - SBS WorldMovies on my Fetch Mighty PVR - some twice - between 9-13/1/26, and/or on 6/4/26. Don't know if/when that might be offered again - 6/4 may be related to the start of the NSW School Holidays just finished.
