this just recommended to me. v

fastest lap. https://youtu.be/tTC10Kqb0XU

lot of negative comments on ford post about ford drivers are (removed inflammatory) and some praying ford disappear, but aren't they one of the biggest car companies in the world?

oh and something in description some of you might like. no EV in this car. 😈

    Bro who cares
It’s a race track, you know where you race cars.

No one is racing on the street anymore (unless you own a golf gfi with a pop crackle tune or a ranger)

    • It’s a race track, you know where you race cars.

The thing that's unique about the Nurburgring Nordschleife (North Loop) is that anyone can turn up, pay for a lap, and go for it.

I knew this would be a ski post as soon as I saw “Race car” in the title.

  • +3

A lot of people don't know this but one neat thing about the word racecar if that if you spell it backwards it is still racecar.

    • +3

And if you spell the words battery and electric it upsets a lot of racecar fans.

      • +2

Yep. This thread is going around in circles and will soon decend into a debate about property prices and boomers.

If you ask me Muhammad Ali is his prime is way better than anti-lock brakes

How many laps of the ring can an EV do in one charge flat out?

        • Lemans 24hr with EVs, 20 of the hours are watching them charge.

          • @brendanm: "20 of the hours are watching them charge."

            That's an overstatement. :)

          • @brendanm: Are 19 of those hours spent queuing up for the one working charger in town?

            • @JIMB0: Ask those that went on an Easter road trip.

Saw 4-5 cars waiting for a charger when driving down south coast.

30 seconds more and you can do it in a street car with a much quieter gearbox. Meh!

    • but that's still 30 seconds more..

I asked google about the 30 seconds on nurburgring. apparently because it's such a long race track it's not as much as you think it is.
"In summary, 30 seconds on the NĂźrburgring might be the difference between a pro and an amateur driver, whereas 30 seconds on a short track is often the difference between a racing car and a street car."

so I guess you are kind of right.

      • +1

I should have mentioned that's a production car you can buy.

The fastest lap is like 5:20 so they are way off that.

        • below the video says fastest lap in it's category, and that's what matters I guess otherwise they wouldn't have posted a video..

        • It is a "production" car of sorts, but not in the usual sense of the word. It is not a road registerable production car. It is a track-only prototype racer that Ford builds for race teams.

It is NOT the fastest road registerable car around the Nurburgring. It is the fastest ICE powered car. The fastest road registerable car is an AMG One.

@GordonD: Sounds like ford are making up categories to suit themselves.

They are third according to the official source

            • @MS Paint: wow sucks to be ford. or would it be because they did the test, like a week ago, and two other faster cars did the test after?
seems unlikely that will happen though..

            • @MS Paint: Yep, fastest ICE. Third fastest overall, beaten by an electric racer VW built to win Pikes Peak, and a Porsche 919 hybrid racer.

          • @GordonD: This is what I’m confused about being the fastest ICE car.

Stefan Belhoff ran a 6:11 on the ‘Ring in 1983 in a 956. It was the fastest time around the ring for decades. Also a race car.

If you want to get into nerd in for on the ring, the current track has been resurfaced since then and it’s now a faster track so the cars from 4-5 decades ago will be faster today because the new surface is grippier (plus they’ve smoothed out some of the bumps).

OP if you want to look at how tyres impact times, the Carrera GT shaved 16 seconds off its time by changing to modern tyres. 2004 it set a time of 7:28, in 2024 it ran a 7:12 by changing its tyres to modern day tyres

            • +1

              @Gunnar:

Stefan Belhoff ran a 6:11 on the ‘Ring in 1983 in a 956

That was on a circuit configuration that was about 2km shorter than the current one.

        • what I found funny though is the video I watched before this was them racing a bunch of cars down a straight road in the UAE like FF and some of the most expensive cars in the world.

and the guy turns around and says "what's that, who's going to be driving that thing?" and points to the yellow BYD EV car that has a funny name and is faster than everyone's billion dollar cars. and a guy who's there turns around and says "that doesn't count". 🤣

  • +1

If youre into really fast cars, i dont see why EVs 'dont count'. They are clearly faster tha ICE.

    • "clearly faster tha ICE"

Most are only fast off the straight, heavy and can't turn.

      • Most? MOST ICE cars are hopelessly slow too. But 'race car' isnt MOST.

        • True. Most ICE cars are hopeless too.

          Both just as bad.

  • +1

Race car goes fast, such wow.

    • +2

Now median strip racing, that’s where it’s really at

  • +1

All I know is my fords let me down in Forza horizon so I don’t love em

  • Yeah…..but it’s a Ford

  • OP if you’re going down the rabbit hole of Nurburgring times, have a read of this, explaining how times and timing has changed over time:
    https://www.motor1.com/features/769053/nurburgring-lap-times…

It’s a summary of how to read times with a grain of salt. This also doesn’t really go that much into physical changes to the track that have happened over the years, particularly with the bumps being smoothed out over time to make the track safer (and ultimately faster)

  • Am I the only one upset over a lack of capital letters in the post, especially for Ford?
My OCD I know, but is it so difficult OP?

  • I'd like to see the McMurtry Speirling round there.

    • I wondered if they gave it enough range to do that distance. But google tells me they did … 25-30 minutes at racing speed.

    • Top speed is like 150mph. It would be quick around the ring but top speed wouldn't help.

      • Google says its top speed is 300 km/h. 20.832 km at 300 km/h takes 4 minutes 10 seconds.

Where the Spierling has a huge advantage is on acceleration and hillclimbs because it generates huge downforce, and therefore traction and cornering grip, from a standing start and at low speeds. I suspect it wouldn't have a big advantage on a 20 km race circuit because at high speed a race car would generate as much downforce from its underbody and wings.

But it'd be fun to find out.

I appreciate the foul language before it’s reported

    • -2

not very popular video is it for a forum that likes car posts!

also you have to admit it's pretty cool when a brand that has been around for so long knows how to make a car like this, and then makes it.

tbh though I find seeing cars like this in public really really stupid. half of them don't even have a space for your groceries other than the passenger seat, a few others like it would be aston martin and a maserati I think?

also they aren't designed for going slow without enough cool air the super massive engine heats up really quickly. on a 35 degree day I saw one stuck in traffic once, and you could see the heat waves above the back where the engine was. I was like oh that looks like a fire in 30 mins. 😂

      • Ah so thats why some cars have hood vents, i thought it was just for show and the coolant and EO done most of the cooling

  • -1

How fast a car goes is pretty irrelevant… Like wow, it goes 0-100 in 2 seconds. Surprised people still care about useless stats.

  • -2

    price in title please /s

    • I think it's for racing only this one. need a team of 100 people. afford 3 of these and 3 race drivers, like the Gran Turismo movie.

they won't even sell you one unless you have a race team. 😂
