5 TB of Storage (Previously 2 TB) on Google AI Pro Plan ($32.99/Month or $329.99/Year) @ Google

1210

Received this email from Google, they've added an additional 3 TB of storage to Google AI Pro plans at no extra cost. Some Reddit comments suggest this is a staged rollout to existing users, but it's also updated on the new subscription page.

Your plan has been upgraded to 5 TB of storage
Hi [name],

Your Google AI Pro plan has been upgraded to include 5 TB of storage at no extra cost to you.

Your existing AI benefits and bill will stay exactly the same — we just wanted to give you some more space for your photos, documents, and more.

You don’t need to do anything to claim it, the extra storage is already available in your account.

Thank you for being a valued Google AI Pro subscriber.

— The Google One team

Might be possible to get Turkish geo-pricing through the iOS app store, where the Gemini app's IAP price for the monthly plan is 720 TRY/mo (~$23.55), but can't personally test this.

yeah i got this e-mail too, can confirm its raised to 5tb.

Dunno if i trust em though haha

    • +2

Can't put google and trust on the same line man.

      • I dunno.. I trust Google to suck all the information out of me they can (and not in a fun way)

  • +27

This is why you cant buy RAM or SSD for good prices now

    • +10

      my thoughts exactly…
can i just buy an 4tb nvme for $350 no yearly cost please

    • +3

They do this because not everyone utilises that much space and they know that. If you come out of the plan, you need to delete the data. So most people dont store remotely anywhere near that much. Only few entries go above that, and for that little usage they get to advertise 5TB.

    • +1

In Techno-Feudalism, Apple, Google, MS, FB, Amazon, X… will lock you to pay yearly rent for things you don't need (that much). Using our brains is much better investment ;)

    • Seems like you haven't heard the news. Memory stocks fall after Google posts AI development …
Let's see what actually happens in the next few weeks/months!

    • +1

Wait until you discover most businesses using Google Workspaces (G-Suite) are on the 2TB and 5TB storage plans per user. Versus 1TB with Microsoft 365.

It's so nice having 500 TB+ available for Google Drive.

    • Apparently Apple is actually buying a lot of the RAM (at a literal loss), just for market share… Idea is it’ll increase costs enough that a 32GB MacBook becomes an appealing option. They likely won’t even profit from that, but will if you then stick with Apple.

      Isn’t just AI

  • +1

Under the annual pricing the Premium (2 TB) is only $2.00 more at $126.99/year than the Google AI Plus (200 GB) option going for $124.99/yr/year

    • +4

But a lot more than 200gb no ai.

  • I mean this is a good option to upgrade for those that need the extra storage (I am on 2tb for $149 with no AI). So for double your money you get more than double the storage and AI.

  • +24

More Data for Ai to train from.

    • +3

      It's certainly got an appetite

  • +2

I also got this email. So my first thought is, what am I losing if I now scale down to the 2TB, and save a bunch of dollerydoos? I don't need 5TB yet as I am only at about 1TB of stored data.

If you go to this link via incognito https://one.google.com/about/plans?g1_landing_page=0 (as they make an attempt to hide the downgrade options when signed in), you compare what the difference between the 2TB and 5TB plans are (aside from storage).

I am yet to properly compare and understand what I am losing, but the main difference I went the AI plan in the first place was the Pro version of Gemini, which it appears you still get.

    • AI pro plan has Google Home Premium Standard included that gives 30 days history of camera events. And it also have more AI usage credits and Gemini in Docs/Sheets.

  • +2

What does their terms say? Will your ai data be used to train the model?

  • What do I use my 5Tb for…. Haha.

    • +10

pr0n now Albo says you need ID…

  • +1

Can anyone explain what this is?

    • Not sure, is it storage to train your model ? Google keeps shoving Gemini , their AI, at me for free whether in on my phone or PC on chrome browser. When on edge on windows PC they shove copilot AI at me for free, maybe nothing I do needs paid AI, and it doesn’t always come back with correct answers, more statistical than a eureka moment, was it Claude, Gemini, copilot or Netanyahu that told trump attacking Iran is a good idea ?

    • Same AI Pro plan as before but you get an extra 3TB of storage for no extra cost.

  • +10

Still not worth $329.99/year. Greed of these companies has made regular PC parts more expensive.

    • +10

      But upvoted. K

        • +13

The votes are for gauging if something is a good deal tho. If you don't think it's worth $329.99 per year then it shouldn't be upvoted

  • +8

Can’t wait to build my own storage and be done with subscriptions

    • +2

I was gearing up to build a NAS last Black Friday…passed on 96GB RAM for $300, passed on 4TB NVMEs for under $300, passed on NAS grade hard drives hoping for better deals on Black Friday - only for it to be literally the worst Black Friday to build a NAS in history. Prices may not come back down for years 😭

      • i thought ppl use NAS for media storage, what would possibly need 96GB ram?

    • Have you looked into immich? I might set it up.

      • I've had immich running for almost 2 years, but I'm still too scared to stop paying for Google Photos, being only a power surge away from losing all of my photos.

        • But surely you have backups of your important NAS data ?

          • @Nom: Don't care so much about the 40tb of Linux ISOs. Backing up in the cloud isn't much cheaper than just paying for Google Photos and setting up another NAS offsite will take quite a bit of time and financial investment.

            • +1

@nubix: But just use a few USB hard drives to backup your important photos 🤷

  • +3

Got it free for 18months, with Indian sim (Jio).

    • +1

If you don't mind me asking, how did you manage to get a Sim pack?

  • +2

Who would actually pay for this?

  • +2

Storage wise this is a pretty terrible deal, for $18 a month you can get 6 TB from Microsoft. But also as someone who has this plan (got it for free from a student promotion) I don't find the AI perks to be useful at all

  • This is only good if you pay for storage and cameras. This is roughly the cost of 2tb and cameras.

  • This is good if you heavily use the google eco, best value is the MS Family plan though if cloud storage and MS365 is what you need for ur family

    • This… 6TB for like, $180 a year… if you can be bothered with managing 6 accounts.

  • Nice got the free bump up ontop of the Pixel 9 Google Gemini AI free 12 months plan

  • Got this plan free with my pixel 10 pro. Nice bump but I'll never use it all.

  • +2

Just as I was considering de-googling my life…

  • Does anyone have any suggestions for transitioning away from google drive. The cost from 200gb tier to the 2tb is huge.

Not sure what an alternatives there to manage and back up photos in a seamless way

    • I don't think there's a great alternative unfortunately if cost and photo management is a concern unless you self-host. FWIW you might be able to get Turkey geo-pricing through the iOS app store if you have an iOS device, where the Google One app IAP's for 2 TB appear to be 205 TRY / ~$6.70 monthly or 2050 TRY / ~$67 annually, but I can't personally test that since I got this plan for free for a while already from a previous post here.

    • Look into immich, I think it has potential.

    • Microsoft 365 Family, and split the cost between other members of your family.

Six of you get 1TB each, for $30 per person per year ($180 annually for the family plan including the six accounts).

      • Might have to see whether there is an easy way to transfer data across

        • For photos, just install Google Drive and OneDrive onto the same PC, and then just drag and drop from G: (Google) to your OneDrive\Pictures folder…

          • @Nom: Good point, cheers!

  • Google workspace is probably better value for most people especially as, unlike for their consumer plans, Google gives you enterprise data protection (commitment to not using it for training etc) with the Workspace plans. $19.80 per month for 2tb storage and Gemini with Expanded Access (pay extra to upgrade to Ultra).

    $30.90 for 5tb and endpoint protection https://workspace.google.com/pricing?source=gafb-alpha_ai_68…

    • I mainly use the AI plans for Antigravity access but unfortunately I couldn’t find any details about it on the workspace pricing page. :(

    • Plus GST = $33.99.

Been on this one for years.

    • Workspace breaks a lot of consumer level functionality

      • Like what? I haven't noticed, but I'm not the heaviest Google user in fairness.

  • How much is this in Turkey. 5TB storage would be nice but not at that price

    • +1

Shows as 720 TRY / ~$23.55 monthly on the Gemini app. Can't personally test if it works since I already have the plan. Added this to the OP.

      • It apparently is being cracked down on with YouTube premium, so I assume similar here

  • If anyone wants to support an Australian company, idrive has 2TB for $108.90 per year (~$9pm). Has data privacy and sovereignty.
    https://idrive.net.au/pricing/

And the American idrive is ~$120 per year (~$10pm) for 5TB. No data centres in Australia though.
    https://www.idrive.com/pricing

    • This is for the AI plan, they have 10TB non ai for cheaper than this

  • Can I join family and share this ai account storage with family member?

    • Yes. My wife has this and i share via family.

    • You can share storage, not AI features

  • I purely use Google cloud for Google Photos. I find it the easiest, and least painful, end user experience to back up the photos / videos across all 4 family member iPhones (using the same Google login in the Google Photos app on all 4 devices) and then to create folders for easy sharing of photos with friends and family. Would be happy to move off the Google ecosystem but haven’t found anything that’s close.

    Any recommendations on alternatives?

    • +1

      Ente Photos

    • +1

So you like self hosted? Means you need to set up a full ecosystem including backups, of so, immich is a good one.

      • Thanks. I don’t mind self hosting if it has the required functionality. I’ll check it out

  • How do people link their apple ecosystems or use the storage efficiently? Without manually transferring?

    • you can't - hence ecosystem

  • I just cancelled my AI plan, and then…

    https://ibb.co/Kpsj11pr

    • The timing! That's awful. Would that have kept you on the plan?

  • I need to purchase my 200gb family plan, prices are up and I'm days is nearly full. Ouch.

  • +1

Dunno what the "AI Pro" plan is but I already get 5TB storage as part of my Google Workspace Business Plus plan for $33.99/month.

This includes my personal domain hosted on Gmail and a load of other stuff including Gemini AI Pro.

    • Microsoft is probably cheaper for this on a O365 business plan, I believe it includes copilot (not as good as Gemini)

  • Cheers op the link gave me 2tb premium for 4.49 a month for 3 months instead of 14.99

  • Doesnt make up for tanking the limits in Antigravity.

  • ~$23.50 (720 TRY) using iOS Turkey method, but Google apparently detects this with YouTube so unsure if it's possible

Even with 5TB isn't overly worth it IMO, unless you really heavily use gemini. Gemini free limits (via API keys) have pretty decent limits otherwise.

  • I still have this for free 1 year because I got Pixel 10 Pro during JB Hi-fi pre-order and cancelled the plan (cheapest cost). I think if I want to use it for free forever, I need to change to a new Pixel phone every year during JB Hi-fi pre-order and cancel the plan. Use trade-in for existing Pixel phone.
