I'm not sure if my title is correct so please modify as required.

So on your day off, go and spend the day at the Zoo exploring their new curriculum-aligned lessons, designed to support teaching from Early Stage 1 through to Stage 6.

    No thanks.

I feel you fellow mathematics teacher. It's not like we don't work hard enough already!

They have the "opportunity" ie. ignore it and be lazy if you want. Pretty typical behaviour, the vast majority of teachers I know don't bother doing any work during the school holidays until the day before school, why should you be any different? Enjoy, life is too short to kick a gift horse in the mouth.

You dont have to attend the info session. So it would just be free entry.

You would be smart to go if you can, it's only a quick 45 minute session and the first 190 teachers (split between 3x sessions) get a free gift bag! Otherwise, it's basically a free day for the entire family worth $158.40. Great find OP!

How do I become a NESA accredited teacher?

    • Get a teaching degree, work in a school as a classroom teacher, collect evidence that you have fulfilled the requirements of 7 standards of teaching, usually take at least a year. Submit your evidence and your annotations of evidence as well as your reflection to your principal, probably take a month to approve. If everything is good and your evidence and your annotations are up to standard, then you will receive your accreditation. On ozbargain mentality, you are better off paying full price or get some discount from NRMA membership.

Or simply be friends with a teacher who is up for a day at the zoo

It may be different in other states but to be "accredited" in NSW, you only need to be a current teacher working in a classroom, even one day a week.

"All teachers require active accreditation with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) to teach in any school or centre-based early childhood service in NSW"

And pay $100 annually for no reason but to say you're accredited….

        • Do you mean after accredited to maintain your accreditation, you will only need to work 1 day a week. I thought you always start as provisional teacher and need to gain proficiency before being accredited?

  • Taronga Park Zoo 'curriculum' lol - watching the chimpanzee doing an interpretive dance?

  • Sounds like you could be a prime candidate for the Early Stage 1 lesson hardya. The purpose and work of zoos is far more complex than animal displays. That said, the highlight of my daughter's childhood visit to Taronga years ago was her interaction with a chimp, which appeared to be enjoying the show of her laughing hysterically at its antics. Each time she stopped laughing it would repeat its action to get a reaction. This went on for probably ten minutes and soon we were all chortling. In the end we had to 'drag her away' to see other exhibits.
