[Switch] Mario & Luigi: Brothership $44.95 + Delivery ($0 NSW C&C) @ The Gamesmen

270

Stumbled across this while comparing prices for other Switch games. I never got around to buying and playing it, I guess now seems like as good as time as any.

Also available on eBay, BIG W and Woolworths Marketplaces sold by The Gamesmen.

Alternatively, it is currently on sale for $49 at JB Hi-Fi

  • $44.95 everywhere it seems

    • All sold by Gamesmen though. I suppose I should still add them, as it all depends on if someone favours a particular store.

I never got around to playing it,

So why is it a bargain?

    • I could never play it because I never bought/owned it. I apologise it was probably not the best way to phrase it.

I also read online how there are people who didn't like it (see below comment), which made me hold off.

  • Worst Mario game ever made.

    • It is average.

There's fun here for JRPGs genre fans 👍

I’m a big Nintendo fan , and I found it borderline moronic I couldn’t understand how they could release something so dumb.

      • +1

It kind of drags on though, at some point they make you go back around to every island again and I just wanted the game to end.
I think my playtime was something like 70hrs, which felt like it was 30~40hrs too long for a Mario JRPG :/

Mario RPG was garbage. Is this worse?

    • how is it not a two player co op game ??

why call it brothership and not have two brothers be able to play it as a team

  • +7

To quote the most memorable dialogue in the game:

    Luigi? Marioooo! Luigi? Marioooo! Luigiii!

  • It looks ok for that genre, I can't believe there's no 2 player co-op though

    • +1

Yeah I remember when the trailer dropped I thought it looked great for my 2 kids to play together. But then disovered that "Brothership" is actually not co-op at all. Seems like such a swing and a miss.

As someone who's played all mario games this one can be skipped. Novelty wears off fast.

The older M&L games were so good. They had so much charm and were full of dumb jokes. This one has none of that. I hate it so much. It's a bad game and has nothing that made this series good. Soulless slop

    • Paper Mario (N64) and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (Gamecube) , as well as Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA) were/are AMAZING games. The combat was tight, and unmatched for years despite being so old, the writing was silly, fun, and worked well in the Mario universe while fleshing out and making the world immersive, and these games inspired some modern bangers like South Park: Stick of Truth and Clair Obscure Expedition 33.

You can play all of these on switch, either through the online sub or as standalone re-releases. Would recommend if you like turn-based JRPG's with timing mechanics and/or Mario games with a more narrative experience.

      • I also really loved Paper Mario Origami King. The combat is definitely different, it's mostly just puzzle solving, but man that game really took what's good about paper mario/mario & luigi and ran with it. The silliness got dialed way up, it's really funny, and the soundtrack is, I think, up there as one of Nintendo's best. It has a great story with some really touching moments as well. The developers of origami king got it right. I don't know how mario & lugi brothership got it so wrong.

I think some people might get caught up on origami king's combat, but for me it's by far the best mario game ever made

    the game is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow……………………..

    • +1

Yep painful. That keeps going on and on and on

Probably took me 2 months to finish cause i kept falling asleep

Op, fortunately, stumbled upon this game. 👍

This game, unfortunately, stumbles really hard.

Haha, I think your comment is the winner. 😄

Despite that I think this is (so far) the lowest the game has on sale for and worth making a note for that at the very least, it sadly still isn't worth buying.

        😁

I bought the game for $69 when it launched.
Really tried to be patient with it (and telling myself it will get moving/ better if I persevered with it)

After the forest area I just decided I had had enough of its same formula and put ot in the shelf). My time is better spent on better designed and fun games that are respectful of its players time. This one wasn’t.

Yeah, I was going to say I got it for $20. Probably the cheapest Nintendo game I'll ever buy.

  • Pretty good M&L game if you stick around with it, but it does feel about 15-odd hours too long.

    The older games were better.
