Hey bud, any idea what I'd need to install a decent unit in a Toyota Kluger CVX 2003?

    • +13

      Just user Aerpro adaptors.

      https://aerpro.com/

You'll need one from your car to standard ISO, then one from ISO to JVC. Depending on what options yours has, or non standard connectors, you may need a toyota reverse camera to standard RCA video in, or an antenna cable converter, however, at that age of car, that's unlikely.

    • +1

Prob just a conversion kit, a few tools and a little bit of self-determination and balls to get one's hands dirty (sounds like you are ok with that) and give it a crack.
Otherwise, maybe drop the store a quote request for install, or…

Or, see if you have any mates that might be able to help and have some knowledge around this. Most groups of friends have someone that knows their way around a car I find… :)

    • Downvoted for calling him bud.

Same, they're more of a 'champ' anyway.

You should probably check the associated checkbox.

    • +1

      Yeah, nar…
Cos someone posts a link to a special/discount they received from a seller a few times, does that mean they are affiliated? 🤷‍♂️
Yeah, think not… I'm pretty sure others who signed up for newsletters do the same… Doesn't mean they are affiliated? Thanks, but not the case at all. Not even remotely close!
Actually bought my last car audio gear from a different place, and had another (different to that) install it as I didnt have time myself.
      But all good.

It's because you said 'If you find any of these cheaper anywhere in Australia, I'll match it.'

        • +2

Clearly a copy and paste from a promo emailed out.
Not from me… Fair point, but no affiliation - just copy and pasted.
          Add for you.

      • Cool, probably shouldn't of assumed, based on the description I thought that you were offering the promotion.

        • All good - easy miss i guess on both sides.
It's OzB and for me, its a quick post to point others in X direction if a special price/item is of interest. Up to other members to figure out the details etc. So, not overly meticulous with details like that.

Do these work on all cars or specific to certain makes and models? How easy is it to DIY install these?

    • Works on all cars with a standard double din radio slot. Need adapters from aerpro unless you want to wire it yourself.

      • -1

Many of the aerpro adaptors are active converters - you can't "wire them yourself" unless your car doesn't have any smarts at all in its audio interface.

You don't necessarily need a double DIN slot, but you may need a fascia adaptor.

        • +1

I think most basic adapters are pretty simple direct link type without any components in line. Of course there are exceptions but thats on the rare side.

          • -1

@timedzone: Many cars can't use the basic adaptors though - you need an interface to get the parking sensor beeps into the audio stream, you need an interface to talk to the steering wheel controls, sometimes you can't get the speed signal for the speed-sensitive-volume-control without pulling it from the canbus, etc etc.

As I said, you can only get by with the basic adaptors if your car doesn't have any smarts at all in its audio interface. i.e. 90s-era cars.
Most cars from the last 20 years will have at least some of the above.

    • +1

Check what canbus or similar is in the car if needed.
Then get a kit that suits.

  • The Kenwood is cheaper elsewhere

  • -3

Will it work on my 2008 Toyota Aurion?

    • +1

I'd imagine so, with the correct install kit.

  • Android Auto (Wired), Apple CarPlay (Wired) ouch

    • -3

Yep. Diabolical that for the original price this is WIRED, defeats the whole point of CarPlay in my opinion

      • +8

I thought so too, so I got a wireless Android auto model. Turns out I'm always plugging my phone in to charge anyway as it uses a bit of battery.

        • +2

I use my car alot for work and found this issue also, so i just got a wireless phone charger and it would sit in that which is still easier then plugging your phone in every time.

          • +1

@Hoopzzy: Makes sense and a nice solution. I just can't stand the heat they generate and slow charging.
Ended up wiring into a little sunglasses cubby near the driver side door with my charger and 3a/pd 12v and just make a point of plugging it in before I go anywhere. Plus the allure of AA for me was to put my phone away and get it off the dash and windscreen area completely.

        • You can plug in a USB fast charger to your 12V socket , which will generally be faster than plugging your phone into your USB port that does the wired android auto

      • +1

A lot of people seem to have missed the point of my comment, wireless CarPlay is a premium feature and for it not to be on a rrp +$500 unit it is not worthwhile

  • +7

Will it work in my Goggomobil? G-O-G-G-O.

    • Everything works with a go go mobil…
Or is it, nothing work with or on one? Cant remember… Best ask Shannon…

    • +1

Or get a proper brand with warranty for half the price of yours?

      • +3

No chance… these proper brands are mediocre at best to me at least! This thing comes with 2years warranty and the specs are what i am after… so yeah not for everyone but the run of the mill brand like these aren't for me.

        • The features on that unit look fantastic. Is there easy access to the HDMI and USB ports?

          • +1

@AEKaBeer: yeah i would say relatively easy… yeah feature packed and just quality hardware.

  • -2

Would it fit toyota camry 2016? And how much would the install cost?

  • Ngl in the market for a tomb of boom

  • When does the offer end.

  • Kenwood DMX6523S is showing $440?

  • Fully sick!

  • +2

    Showing up as 348?

  • Any idea how to stop head units from draining my car battery over night?

    • +5

      Install it properly.
