Fresh Cooked Tiger Prawns $10/kg @Woolworths
Full price is shown as $36/kg.
My local Woolworths were selling at $15/kg, but after showing this page, they reduced it to 10. They argued that 10/kg is some store specific where they got large stock, but in the end were ok to reduce my price.

Oyster also available at $11/dozen. Normal price seems to be around 18 to 22.

    Not Fresh.
    Advertising trickery.

    Thank you for listening.

    • Should also mention, this is a great deal $ wise, maybe thaw at Christmas

Aren't prawns frozen on the boat? Ie there are no really fresh prawns?

      • It is "fresh cooked" , just like the canned tuna.

      • These prawns haven’t seen a boat. They’re tassal farmed prawns.

This is how they can be fresh cooked - they aren’t sitting in a fishing boat for 2 weeks, they come direct from the farm.

We had them for New Year’s Eve last year. They are fine, a bit salty and lacking compared to prawns off the trawler that you find in fish markets… but for $10/kg totally eatable.

The better supermarket prawns IMHO are the Karumba Banana prawns. These are frozen, but have a very good flavour, and maintain their flavour when cooked (ie added to stirfry, curry, laksa etc).

Youre wrong, its different at different stores, my two closest ones are still $20/kg and $18/kg, a little further out one is still selling at $10/kg, change your instore preferred store until it show u one at $10/kg

      • Thanks, i was getting some gc and then the price changed from the current store

I check other stores also was not the original price now it shows 20% rather than better than 1/2 price

But good u got it man

I tend to not be fast enough on the good deals lol

        • Im most likely going to do what op did and show my closest local store that another woolies has it for $10/kg and try to buy it at that price at my local one instead of driving 4-5km to another one lol

          • @Nvu: Nice

            Keep us updated haha

But in the past when they had the 40% clearance of prawns it was usually a little slimy ( yellow ticket)

I wonder the quality when u pick it up

Anyways im done trying haha too much annoying lol

            GL!

  • They were full price 37 a kilo in ashgrove brisbane. Oysters also full price

  • "fresh cooked"

    What does this mean?

"Fresh" normally implies they are either raw or haven't been frozen.

    • Some king prawns - probably most bulk supermarket stock - are caught then sorted, cooked and snap frozen on the boat.

    • +1

These are farmed prawns, not wild caught. So they’re cooked and not frozen.

      • +1

Good to know. Hence the price.

  • disgusting smell usually

  • Managed to get 2kg from the Prospect NSW store, thanks OP.

  • I literally 5 minutes ago had this show up on my YT home screen: https://youtu.be/f0O4tA1PW0o?si=6ngL68ahSn3ugtgf 😄

  • Bought 1kg at $8, but it wasn't fresh.

  • Can you re freeze these?

    • Yes you can freeze them. They are not previously frozen.

    • I'd only do that if they were (very) fresh in store. On second thoughts I wouldn't do it even then.
