Edifier R1280db active (powered) speakers for $139.99 on Amazon AU (in white only). Usually $210 or so on Amazon.

These are not the greatest speakers, but bang for buck they are quite decent and probably one of the best for the price.

Bluetooth in, RCA and optical in.

In my experience they benefit from having the removable mesh guards taken off, being seated on something semi solid (like a thick book) and toed out (facing slightly away from the listener). YMMV.

Powered so no need for an amp etc.

Id probably spend an extra $12 on MR3.0 BT

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0D9NXMPBB/ref=ox_sc_sa…

      • This ^^, beautiful set of speakers

PriceMatch with OF for better deal

      • Hows the sound quality vs 1280DB?

        • Decent, but very bassy on 1280, MRs are crisper imo

    • I got a set of the black MR3's this past week, they're pretty good speakers for how "small" they are. There are too many speakers to pick from I was getting so confused in the process. I didn't want to cheap out and get something under $100, but I didn't want to spend thousands either.

Bought these about 5 years ago for $99. Would not buy again, the sound quality did not line up with the price, in my opinion.

The removable mesh is a nice visual benefit. The connection options are good. But the sound is average.

    • Yeah having owned Edifiers better speakers these sound pretty crap.

      Cheap for a reason.

I've (still got) s2000 pro from ozbargain…. Excellent speakers, but they still cause grief when netflix/prime sends a signal that isn't appreciated…

        I bought these rd1280db speakers, after I bought the s2000 pro…. i really thought they would follow the same pattern…. I.e. I'd get $200 speakers for $99.

In the end, I think I got $99 speakers for $99.

I used to think that too.
I got mine for about the same price you did.
But for me, with them on a suitable footing, no mesh, toed out, and probably the main thing… switching from Spotify to Tidal… I'm now impressed with them for the price. And not unhappy with them overall.

Just did a quick google search also found Edifier R1280DBs (Slight upgrade from R1280DB and dedicated subwoofer output to enable 2.1 system) for $135 (+Del or Free CC) @ Centre Com.

    • I own these, connected to a sub, and they're awesome.

  • These used to be $99.

And petrol used to be 98c a litre.

Yes, this timeline sucks, but we do what we can.

      • Didn't knew these are made from petrol. How many liters of petrol did it take to build?

Not the same product. That's the R1280T, not R1280DB. It lacks Bluetooth, the optical input and only has a very basic remote.

Thoughts on aldi bookshelf speakers? 79$, 25w output

  • Be careful, 1280db is much louder than the average home stereo system and may explode your human body if you aren’t careful to turn it up slowly to a comfortable level, that said it’s excellent value for $/db

  • Have heard these can be muddy for voice?

    • I found mine very muddy for bass until I made the changes above and switched from Spotify to Tidal (Tidal is cheaper and sounds better). Now I wouldn't describe it as muddy at all.

    • I didn't like them for watching TV for that reason.
