I really recommend you know what you are getting when buying the Non "X" version of this console. It is very underpowered. Although compared to a steam deck it is probably on par.

But the X is so much better, but also at a very ridiculous price.

Recommend sitting on the sidelines until the proper Z2 extreme devices go on sale. I can't imagine many people are buying them at $1,800-$2,200

    • +19

I'm sitting on the sidelines re ANY hardware purchase during the current insanity.

      • +1

This deal isn't that bad. Grab one and chew through your older Steam library backlog and indie games.

      • +5

me too. Except for monitors. Monitors are getting real cheap

        • +12

Probably because nobody can afford anything to plug them in to lol

      • Most of these devices will have their RAM prices locked in from prior contracts. As current stocks dry up though, new, higher prices will emerge.

      • I just did a refurb LOQ on the Lenovo outlet. 13650hx, 32g ram, 4060. $1100ish and $155 for an extended 2 year warranty, so 3 years @ onsite. Set and forget through this tidal wave now.

    • +2

After gift cards, discounts, the dodgy JB 10% off that worked on exclusions, TRS, I grabbed an XAX for around $1100.

But you can take advantage of Steam remote play or just indie games and the white XA would be actually quite decent. The ergonomics are excellent.

    • So you're saying you can upgrade for more money…

      • That is an interesting interpretation

      • i can answer that, for money…

  • The Lenovo Legion Go 2 just went up 48% in the US because of RAM prices. Get in quick.

    • +13

RAM prices have been falling the last few weeks, and look to fall a lot more after the Open AI deal with Micron is looking to not go ahead + the new Google memory compression algorithm reducing the RAM needed for AI services by a massive 6x:

      https://www.tomsguide.com/computing/hardware/ram-prices-are-…
      https://au.pcmag.com/ai/116760/can-googles-ai-memory-compres…

EDIT: what's the reason for the downvotes? I'm just proving market information.

      • Because it's about what the RAM suppliers will charge going forward, and Samsung increased prices by 30% for Q2.

        https://wccftech.com/what-dram-price-crash-samsung-just-rais…

        • +1

Lets see how that works out for them when their competitors have already started to slash prices from all time highs due to a crash in demand.

          • +1

@studentl0an: I think you need to read the market data. All suppliers are just pivoting away from DDR5 and towards HBM,which is more profitable. They are going to clear out DDR4 and DDR3.

            • @shellshocked: I am reading the market data and it's clear. HBM is pretty much enterprise only and the unreleased next gen consumer platforms from Intel and AMD will still be using DDR5. It's going to stay for many years to come.

Consumer CPUs with on package HBM memory don't even exist yet and haven't even been planned.

              • +2

@studentl0an: There is a reason why Micron shut down its consumer division. DDR5 isn't as much as a priority as you think.

                https://investors.micron.com/news-releases/news-release-deta…

                • -1

@shellshocked: They shut down the consumer division because the Open AI deal booked out capacity from multiple manufacturers and they could afford to sell only to enterprise. All that capacity which was booked is likely no longer needed and likely won't be made.

It's likely they will start selling to consumers again within the next year or two.

                  • +4

@studentl0an: They dumped their consumer division because it was low margin vs enterprise. I doubt they will go back unless there is a complete crash in AI.

    • +3

Absolutely no way they'll sell at those prices

      • +1

        That's what I said about the 5090.

When they only manufacture 1000 of something worldwide, you only need 1000 idiots with money to be a "success".

    • +6

Yeah it's crazy, it's not about not buying at all but being smart IMO. Microsoft has put up the RRP of their Surface line-up a few hundred $$$ worldwide over the past week (including Aus). These things weren't selling years ago, but with the recent M5 air and Neo release now they're updating the RRP!? Crazy haha

      • High RRP with big discount is something other retailers and even Microsoft have used in the past.
RRP is indicative, but not a certainty, of how much manufacturers intend to sell their product for.

    • +2

Why are you being downvoted for mostly stating facts lol

It went up a crazy amount.

  • +4

7 inch is too small man

    • +43

What if it has a good personality?

    • That's what she said! 😒

    • It's not the size of the screen, it's how you use it.

    • Plenty wide enough.

  • +7

Z2 A chip is very different to Z2 and Z2E (extreme)

    • Yep …It's the same chip in the Steamdeck :) good for indie type games

      • +1

Similar in power, but different versions of the chip. Don't think exactly the same

  • +3

Not exactly the same but X86 emulation on Android has come a long way.

Picked up Xiaoxin Pad Pro GT from the last deal and have been gaming on that with Gamehub/Gamenative, Switch eden & more.

    indie/2D games play great.

    • This exactly, I've been keeping my eyes on emulation on Android and or seems to be streaming ahead.
I've got a decent setup with my P9p and controller for my entertainment.

  • +2

these naming conventions are so bad

    • +1

It's not as bad as the iPad range, or actual Xbox devices

      S-tier naming is the Sony Playstation (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

      • I'd call the playstation A tier, S tier is reserved for the mad companies willing to put a year on their product. Ie Samsung S26 for 2026

  • Saw lots of reviews, is the chip actually weak for AAA titles? maybe good for emulations instead, in that case rather just get a Retroid or AYN which is much much cheaper.

    • +3

It's pretty much the same as in the Steamdeck which is significantly more powerful than the handhelds mentioned. It can play RDR2 at 40fps 720p and look amazing.

    • yes and no. given its weak hardware u can't play AAA at a decent resolution, setting and FPS. but if lower the resolution and setting enough, reasonable FPS could achieve. In fact saw a video some dude set 480p to play the 2077 on hand held.
I personally won’t touch it. What’s point of playing AAA, if u cannot dive into the beautiful scenery and bgm

  • +2

If you're not windows locked for a certain game you can still get a steam deck LCD for $649 as steam hasn't run out of stock for AU yet. Only negative would be the 256gb SSD and upgrade prices for those are going to suck but a deck is a valid cheaper alternative here.

    • As an avid fan of OzB, I have a fit of games on steam, gog, itchio, Luna, epic.
I know that you can get epic games to work to a certain level although not 100% yet but we need to think about the pile of shame…. Why doesn't anyone think about the pile of shame.

      • +1

Funnily enough this is one of the reasons I gave up on steamos after I tried it on my zotac zone. I was trying to install the various launchers my other games in my library are in and it was a pain in the ass even with NonSteamLaunchers. I gave up after 24 hours and went back to windows 11 though if I was to give it another go I'd probably try again using Heroic Games Launcher

        • I set mine up with Heroic, it works fine aside from being kinda annoying to log into occasionally. And I’m a complete tech dummy.

          • @jjcf: Heroic works fine for me too, easier than having the multiple launchers and they also ask to be logged in to on occasion anyway.

  • Hey guys, I have an OG Z1 extreme with HDD upgrade to 4gb. I just don't use it as much as I expected. Just curious regarding legit market value if I were to sell?

    • Check eBay. $1,200 is my guess.

      • +1

        Absolutely not.

The ROG ALLY X goes for under $1000.

        • +1

Damn you’re right. For some reason they sell for more overseas where most of the sold results were from.

    • +3

If you want maximum return, take out the 4tb nvme and sell it separately. I hope you still have the original 512gb.

The OG Z1E goes for about $550-650. Depending on condition.

    • +2

      Sell the SSD separately ;)

  • If anyone looking for a Legion Go 2 Z2e Lenovo Outlet has them for $1399 don't know how many in stock.

    • Damn thats basically what I got the z2 version for. Would be a steal if in stock at this price considering how much it costs everywhere internationally.

  • Jumped to $814 then $897

  • If you mainly play indie games, check out the latest Retro Game Corp, playing the top Steamdeck games on Android.
