      Still incredibly cheap.

Seems to be out of stock right across Sydney (Narellan is closest with stock)
      Delivery not available either.

      So dont hold your breath.

      Supports our economy. Patriotic.

Bought something very similar a couple of years ago from Harvey and it just went dark one day. Aiwa didn't even try to troubleshoot just sent me me a return to HV confirmation.

Just check what's the warranty, the one I had came with 3y

    • Thats pretty good. Did you get it replaced or repaired and how did you take it back? Just load it in the car and dump it on their desk?

      • +1

Refund which I just used to grab TCL. I forwarded them the email before heading in.

    • doesnt say on the listing how long the warranty is zzz

    • +1

One of the comments below highligted I wrote Aiwa, however, I can confirm it was AKAI,

Is this a Chinese brand? Cheapest price and most features like their cars eh?

    • +8

Akai (Japanese: 赤井, pronounced [a̠ka̠i]) was a Japanese electronics manufacturer, established as Akai Electric Company Ltd in Tokyo in 1929. It was best known outside Japan for its tape recorders during the 1960s and 1970s. The company became bankrupt in 2000 and since then third-party products have been marketed under the Akai brand name, which has since been owned by Grande Holdings of Hong Kong.

      • +1

Akai reel to reel are still a bit of a cult…

    • +1

Akai used to be a Japanese brand but now is a Hong Kong/Chinese-owned

      • What isn't Chinese owned these days.

Soon, Samsung and Sony will no longer be South Korean / Japanese.

        • Sony TV division is already 51% owned by TCL.

    • +1

Like a lot of "Australian" agriculture

      • +1

Company I work for in the FMCG segment is Chinese owned… They can't buy farms etc so they buy the companies that are directly involved in these sectors like distribution…. In saying that they don't do anything other than let us operate like we would under any other ownership.

  • Thanks op! Grabbed one for a bedroom TV

Yeah I made a typo, can confirm it was AKAI with 3y warranty!

      • I'll see if I can find the link

  • -5

Three year warranty will actually be longer under Australian law. Bigw will just refund you rather than deal with the hassle, so it's a pretty cheap, safe bet for at least 5-7 years.

    • +5

I doubt Consumer Law would give you longer than 2 years on a $200 TV

        • +10

I don't know what Big W would or wouldn't do in reality but your take on consumer law is wrong. There's absolutely a price to lifespan ratio. Per this

Consumer guarantees apply for a period of time that is considered reasonable having regard to the nature of the products or services, including the price paid

What is reasonable for the durability of a product will depend on things like the type of product, the price, and how it is likely to be used.

There's no way a $237 TV is treated the same as a $2370 TV as reasonable expectation by the law.

          • -5

@Nillionaire: I can confidently say you're wrong , at least when dealing with Bigw. I know because I bought a cheap 65" TV on sale from BigW, that was glitching after 5 years, and Bigw provided a full refund in the form of gift vouchers after I sent a few emails to head office.

If you go into it with your defetist attitude and don't bother asking, you'll definitely get absolutely nothing .

            • +1

@KRM123: I never claimed anything about Big W so I can't be wrong. I explicitly exclusively made a statement on how consumer law would see it.

          • +9

@Nillionaire: Can confirm as Big W staff that price of product doesn't matter with refund. For TV, I believe the expected lifespan is at least 5 years, so even though if the manufacturer warranty is expired, customer still can get refund if TV is malfunction. That's the company policy.

            • +4

@vinkit: And please keep the receipt as proof of purchase.

            • -3

@vinkit: Thanks, exactly as I said but as usual the nuggets on ozbargain vote everyone down. Don't know why I even bother sharing anything on here anymore, it's full of ⚓ s

              • @KRM123: You were down voted for a different claim than the one you ended at.

Three year warranty will actually be longer under Australian law.

                and

Consumer law gives guidance on expected life of various electronics , which is the guiding factor, not price.

You were wrong to assert such and were downvoted for it.

If you ran with something like "BigW typically honor warranty on any TV for up to 5 years" that would be completely different.

                • @Duff5000: Which I said further down if you read.

Are you saying if two people buy same product, one is reduced on clearance and one is full price that both have different rights for exact same product? That's not true

                  • @KRM123: Please don't bother, you're incorrect. ACL and company policy are two different things.

If Big W (or Wesfarmers) don't have a current agreement with the supplier, I'd be surprised if they would eat the loss on a clearance TV after 5 years, but as an employee and customer have said, I'm incorrect.

                    • @Big L: Correct, you're incorrect.

            • @vinkit: Just clarify that Big W's return & refund policy follows the Consumer Law.

  • Suspiciously cheap. Does it even come with its own remote?

  • How is the Tizen OS on these things. I have heard scalding reviews of the Samsung ones with people saying they will NEVER buy a Tizen OS tv again.

    • +9

Apple TV or Google TV streamer = problem solved

    • +2

2bh, it's simple but snappy and good!

      My 2 cents anyways.

Also, just get a dongle if it isn't enough.

  • Thanks op, ordered one

  • Any good for watching sport?

  • Can anyone confirm if this has a Kayo app?

    • Tizen does support Kayo

  • +2

Yeah I just bought one and am using it as my PC screen, mainly to watch youtube whilst I walk on the treadmill. Picture looks great and I have nothing to complain about - maybe tiny bit of bleed on a black screen but on a windows desktop etc, it looks perfect.. I'm just watching some '4k' videos on youtube and they look as good as any other 4k I've seen in JB Hifi etc. Definitely worth the $230 odd dollars. My local only had 3 left. The staff told me it was clearance so there are no returns for change of mind. Still has warranty 36months iirc.

    • Refresh rate?

      • and how do you suggest I check that?

        • +2

On PC it should be able to viewable under display advanced settings

      • +1

ok windows had it default at 29.97. But I've cranked it to 60 and it runs fine. W11 also shows a few more rates up to 75 but they have astriks next to them. I'm not using it for gaming so will leave it as is. yeah if i choose 75 in w11 the aspect ratio changes, it stretches the picture. Could also be a limit of my Radeon intergrated grafix that I'm using.

        • +1

Perfect so it's 60hz. Thank you. Any more will run at lower res.

  • +1

I grabbed one to replace the 2011 plasma Panasonic. Not too bad for the price and a three year warranty. I grabbed a gift card with an extra 5% off. Shop back has 0.25% cash back or 10% off for Westpac card holders

    • +1

Hang on I found a 7x points on Big W purchases in my Rewards app. Got 1,666 points on the tv purchase

      • I thought it excluded clearance items.

    • +1

SB is saying only an extra 2.5% off for Westpac card holders?

  • +1

Not as good as the fabled Soniq deal from last year, but still pretty good as a secondary tv I reckon.

    • Yes 55" vs 50" but BIG W has a fantastic return policy

    • It's not smart TV, this is smart TV

  • NT stores Casuarina and Palmerston sold out

    • +1

Refresh rate? Game mode? Can't find any info.

    • How’s the sound?

    • cool setup!

    • +1

Amazing, why do you need that kind of setup?

    • Is the model number AK5022S7TZN? I can’t find it on the BigW website. Thank you.

  • Who is the contract manufacturer for this specific AKAI model as I understand that there are mulitple contract manufacturers

      • +1

Tempo is distributor for many brands including Sharp, Aiwa, Akai, Philips, Hitachi, and Linsar and supplier to Aldi, Bunnings, Big W, and Harvey ect

  • Are they still made in Japan?

    • +1

They were, maybe 40 years ago :)

  • +1

Bought one and great price. Many thanks!~

  • Thanks. First new TV I’ve bought in 15 years.

Now I just have to work out how it will fit in my hatchback. Actually, it probably won’t.

  • +1

is the extra 10% on bigw giftcards through the range of banks still active?

f it is, limit of $200 is relevant

  • +3

Great first post - cheers OP ;)

  • Soon you'll be thinking about ways to get rid of it 😂

  • Shows as $349?

  • Thanks OP got one hopefully its good for watching anime

  • +1

Thanks OP, great post, ordered 1 for cc :) I've got a 50" Akai from marketplace and no complaints - good quality screen, good sound, and fast OS. Google says a similar 50" TV they sell is 6-star so hopefully pretty energy efficient too.

  • Any suggestions for a good wall mount for this tv?

  • if these are anything like the eko brand tv's from big w don't do it, mine only lasted a just over a year and died, spend the extra on a TCL.

  • +1

Out of stock anywhere near Brisbane

    • There were plenty yesterday

      • Yeah I had one in my cart all day trying to decide if I was going to pull the trigger or not (well before this post came up), as soon as I saw this post I immediately checked out for pickup because I knew they would disappear instantly.

  • Any deals on smaller tv? I only have small outdoor space

  • What's the actual model number?

      • Excellent. Thank you
You'd think Big W would put it on their website

  • +1

No delivery options left. Sold out NT, SA, Queensland

    • +1

Not sold out in SA. Gawler and Murray Bridge according to site.

  • +1

In WA it shows all stores out of stock, went into my local this afternoon and they confirmed no stock. I went for a little walk around the section and saw one in a box on a shelf collecting dust. Told them they said it shouldn’t be any in stock, but still ended up getting one :). Lucky lucky

  • Anyone have any luck finding stock in NSW?

  • VIC appears to be sold out. Edit: nope, still at least 1 at Echuca.

  • +1

Got one. It is amazing for the price.
Decent build quality. Good picture quality. Overall good.

    • Agreed, just set it up for the old duck after hers died on the weekend… so much better than bloated android os on underspec’d tele’s. Thx Op! Very impressed.

  • +1

Can some1 who has one of these confirm the height and width please? Is it 111.1cm wide and 70.9cm high? Sometimes specs can be incorrect. Ta

  • +2

Big W cancelled my order - boo

  • Android TVs and Google TVs are better, the Tizen software sucks.

      • I’ve got a C7K, and to say this TV is faster than the TCL’s is laughable

    • My experience has been exactly opposite
