270
#92MOAR4X71P74H

Found this in my perks inbox today, from some brief research it seems to be ATL when using with code.
Don't think this deal will be for all perk members, as my other email address with perks membership didn't get the email. Seems targeted or chosen at random.
Scooter also reviewed quite well, has 2 year warranty and seems to be a great entry level one - picked one up as a good alternative to burning some diesel for a quick trip to the shops

Range: Up to 24.9km max range, and 25km/h top speed
Power: 5200mAh 48V lithium-ion battery, and powerful 250W motor
Driving tech: Comfortable 9" x 2.3" pneumatic tyres

Oh that's wonderful! Did not realise that, thanks.

  • How does it compare to the $499 Segway C2? This one seems to have a higher RPP but how abt actual user experience? TIA

    • +6

      Segway C2 is for kids?

      Max weight bearing (kg)
      50
      Recommended rider age
      6-11 years

      • Ah well you are right, so the C2 is pretty much only for young kids to use on private roads since most states banned under 16 riding? Very weird product for the Australian market.

@Sertacv2: The real problem with electric scooters is that people ride them on the footpath, which is meant for walking. A lot of injuries happen because of that.

            • +1

@Suricate: Footpaths are also made for running, bicycles, wheelchairs etc.

              • @Sertacv2: Riding e-scooters on the footpaths in vic is illegal not sure about other states, i've nearly been hit twice by kids/teens going blitzing fast on footpaths traveling 50-60kmph in modified e-scooters who have no real life experience driving motor vehicles.

                • @Gemka2K18: That’s why the rider has to pass L license as well and at least 16 yo for better judgment on the road.

Has to apply to e-bike too since bike is much faster than legal e-scooter (max speed 25 kmh). Stupid if they don’t apply the same rule for e-bike.

Those who make rules usually never ride in the same e-scooter or e-bike. Do it for at least a week then make a reasonable decision on the law.

            • @Suricate: Because roads in most of Australia are a death or injury waiting to happen for two wheels.

The issue is parents buying their kids these machines. There was a story on 7.30 a couple of weeks ago about a boy who died while riding an ebike. Tragic. He was seven years old and his mum bought it for him. Why does a seven year old need an ebike? Buy your Year 2 child what is essentially an underpowered moped, with nothing but a bicycle helmet to protect them, and you're probably going to learn some lessons quickly.

          • @RolandWaites: I got my daughter an ebike (or power assisted bike? The type that motor only comes in when you peddle) when she was 7 ish as we live in a very hilly area. It would otherwise be quite impossible for a 7 yo to ride around the hilly neighbourhood. I dont think she is going to ride alone until she is much older like 14/16.

            • @timedzone: The meaning of the term "e-bike" seems to get confused/misused a lot. I don't think many reasonable people have issues with e-bikes where pedalling is power assisted unless they are ridiculously overpowered, when misused they're about as dangerous as a standard bike. It's the throttle-controlled "e-bikes" that are basically e-motorbikes that are dangerous and killing/hurting people and need to be reigned in.

              • @dav3: Oh so it is essentially a battery powered motor bike? That does sound really dangerous for underaged riders to use on public roads.

                • @timedzone: The thing advertised in the post is an e-scooter, they're throttle controlled but still powerful enough to do damage to a rider or pedestrian in the wrong hands and they're shit to control. A small kid on one of these things is just plain dumb, there have been deaths caused by them but they're not as dangerous as the e-motorbike type things, or the e-scooters people "unlock" to remove speed restrictions.

I had some muppet fly past me on a footpath well over the 15kmh limit for shared paths on one of the overpowered imported e-scooters a few weeks ago, about 100 metres later I saw he'd decided to ride straight across a busy peak-hour road next to where a major event was taking place and got taken out by a black SUV. I just laughed and kept walking………. and before the pearl clutchers ark up he was already surrounded by 10+ people helping him out and event security was radioing it in.

        • Yep, because dumbarse parents let their kids use them in dumb ways

There's a bloke somewhere getting paid to crush the illegal ones… talk about a satisfying job.

    • You are easily pleased, what about crushing a clubsport or something?

      • That wouldn't be a job, that's a pleasure you could sell at auction. I'd pay for the privilege for sure.

        • Building demo with explosives probably tops the list I reckon.

    • -1

What a waste. Just sell it to other countries

  • +2

So far NSW still hasn't legalised these.

    • -4

      Not enforced though

      • +3

Highway patrol will come after you mate. The revenue raising is real.
Not legal on NSW public roads/footpaths.

        • -3

Never seen them fine people but im not from sydney so might be a city thing,.

      • 100% enforced if you are lucky enough to get stopped.

    • +4

I was at Barangaroo on the weekend, the amount of kids flying around with these recording Tiktok videos, if I fined each one of them, I'd have a beachfront property at Manly.

      • No you wouldn't, because they wouldn't be able to pay it.

    • Legal to ride in my backyard

  • I swear I saw this posted the other day when the original email came out.

Pretty low ceiling with all these KFC deals

  • After a scooter around the $500 mark. This seems pretty hard to beat at that price, although some of the JB reviews don't inspire confidence

    • +3

It depends on what you're looking for. Great value for the price and Niu is a good brand in the scooter market.

If you're happy with 25km/hr and aren't expecting to go up steep hills or bumpy stretches on your rides/commute, look no further. Otherwise you'll be better off doubling the budget for an Apollo Go with 99 bikes which has better suspension and is dual motor.

      • Thanks for the advice. Will check out 99bikes for a comparison.

Maybe a bit uncommon but I really want a scooter I can use with 2 people with short trips to the pub (relatively flat surface, combined weight 130kg, so this one might not have enough oomph)

        • +1

It definitely won't have the juice, and it's really not a good idea to have two people on an escooter. There's not really enough room and it's important you're able to tilt your weight, which is hard to do if someone is holding onto you. It's not like a motorbike or motorscooter in that way where they just tilt with you easily, the tiny wheels and very low centre of gravity make it a very different proposition.

        • +1

It is illegal too if I recall correctly. You cant be carrying a passenger at all.

          • @timedzone: Yeh fair call might be better off buying 2 of these $450 scooters then. Thanks

      • Isn't there anything better under that if I don't really care about speed but weight/portability, slopes more like 18 degrees and suspension?

  • I commute 12kms to work daily by car. 6km one way. I was thinking about getting an electric bike but this is tempting due to price. Concerned about the hills part, as there would be a couple of steep hills. To avoid a hill I can go down a bike path, however maybe 700m is dirt… Thoughts? Advice? Thanks :)

    • You talking about getting an electric bike or scooter?? For scooter going up some steep hills, the 250w motor will struggle and you'll need to support it with kicks. Doesn't mean you should dismiss the other positives entirely. If the hills are a small part of the journey, the rest of the journey is a glide with no additional kicks apart from initial kick.

      • +1

Sorry if my comment wasnt clear. I was initially looking at an E-bike,but seeing this especially at its price point is tempting. Two different types of product for sure but same objective of the work commute. Happy to do some 'kicks'.

        Thanks for ur help :)

        • 25km claimed range is more like 15 too, 25km on eco speed with a 40kg passenger and brand new battery maybe.

    • Haven't ridden this but 250 watts would be absolutely gutless on hills. My lowest wattage scooter is 350 watts and it really struggles with any kind of significant incline. They can handle dirt ok as long as you don't turn sharply but it'd be a bumpy ride especially since it doesn't have suspension. Love my G3 max, crushes anything. Costs a lot more though

      • I'm fine with a bit of discomfort for the 600ish metres. The street I work on is unfortunately on a hill!

    • Get a g3

  • Aldi catalogue ebike $599

E-bike even manual bike is much faster than legal e-scooter hence more dangerous.

Max speed 25 kmh for e-scooter, why not the same thing for e-bike? Put the same rule. Pass Learner license, wear helmet, min 16yo to ride.

Better yet, the lawmaker has to experience the ride on e-scooter/ e-bike for at least a week so they don’t make law that not using common sense. Walk in my shoes! Same as housing shite now!
