HiFiMAN Arya Unveiled Open Back Planar Headphone $1499 Delivered @ Addicted to Audio

360

All-time low, and likely foreshadowing further cuts internationally, but seems to be a steep discount due to the incoming wifi audio version. Keep in mind with how Hifiman scale production and then run onto the next thing in 12-18 months, this will likely continue to drop in price, perhaps as low as Arya Stealth levels.

This is a well-reviewed headphone, extremely neutral and highly technically proficient, just not for the faint of heart - or poor of storage - due to the drivers being exposed on the outside of the enclosure/cup: no material covering it, just magnetic covers for when you're done. Open back, and stages nicely wide, tall and deep without being ridiculous, imaging and detail are even better.

I had some issues with the pads being a little too stiff and not quite coupling right on my - slightly narrow - head, but the sound change was only showed clearly in select tracks and is likely addressable with other pads, or may have even be fixed by Hifiman themselves. Not recommending this as an instant buy, but it's definitely competitively priced in the market right now.

if this is the first time you see hifi stuff, well this is just an decent entry item…….

      • +2

I wouldn't say entry lol, exaggerating a bit. These are definitely mid to highend RRP, but Hifiman usually do have massive discounts as newer models comes out.

    • -1

      Clearly? Why?

    • +2

Uh. This is mid tier. But a killer deal for local stock.

Lol we found the guy who has no idea, but thinks he does.

Hey! That's not very nice! I have you know that I'm considered very…

Wait! This time it's not aimed at me.

I don't know how to feel about this, it's never happened to me before, I feel strange inside.

Act Kool, Act Kool. So what about those Skullcandy earbuds? Those are pretty jamming huh?

        • I think they look cool on you. You can stick with them
Also you made me laugh.. got me through my Friday morning

Wow, looks like my QCY H3S beats out this headphone by 13 points? https://versus.com/en/hifiman-arya-vs-qcy-h3-lite

If this is the kind of comparisons we're going to see in the post-RTings world, we're a doomed species.

      • +5

Seriously are these people really thinking these thoughts?
Agreed that we are doomed if this is the case.

He discontinued that ranking list. Due to how toxic it can get. Alao its to his preferences and not yours. What he likes is not what you like.

        • That’s with any headphone. Look at the measurements and go off that.

      • Nah… https://headphones.com/pages/ranking-lists

But they're a lot more subjective than most would be used to despite some great measurements and insights.

    • Ok so are you saying I can hear a significant difference in sound quality between this and my $50 QCY headphones, as in a layperson picking up and comparing the two canock up a noticeable difference? A difference of $1500 worth?

      • +1

Yes you will, but you may not see the value in it, and that's ok. Value for money/ bang for buck drops pretty quickly after something like the hd560 etc.

I really think its a good for you to go to an audio store and try out nice quality headset. It puts all the comments in context for the ones supporting the headset as a deal.

Again bang for buck isn't what you will find here, but instead premium hifi headphones for a good sale.

I was in a similar situation a few years back. And only really appreciated open audio home theatre. Had headphones and thought they were very basic that it's not possible to have good audio in a headphone. Wasn't critical of others, was just my own perception. Then I got my hifiman edition xs and I was immediately converted.
The only problem is you go down the multiple headphones spiral which is probably not healthy lol.
In the end of the day get what you enjoy. These are personal decisions that no one can't tell you what's right or wrong for you, but it's not accurate to compare basic headphones to premium hifi headphones and make it out that they are better. That just isn't true. I feel bad with my comment as it's not really your fault. The website you linked led you to that conclusion.

amazing price, i grabbed these the other day after going in to listen to the organics. the treble has been tamed (vs the organics), they are detail monsters, and despite being pretty neutral OOTB they take EQ exceptionally well - eq'ing in a nice bass shelf works a treat. its a shame about the black shiny plastic vs the wood on the organics but i guess most people are buying hifiman for sound, not build.

    • nice one. also notice any difference in soundstage vs organics? Organics havent really dropped that much in price it seems, though can get on Ali-X for about 1200-ish inc GST

      • yeah the very-noticeable improvement over the organics (to me anyway) for only slightly more $ sold me. i'd agree with other comments about the sounstage, it's not super wide but i like how up-close-and-personal it makes the music feel, combined with how technical capable they are.

This is what they use in McDonald's right to take the drive through order ?

  • +1

Why on god's green earth anyone would pay $1500 for these when you could've got the arya stealth on aliexpress for $588 after cashback last month, as I did, is anyone's guess..

    • +2

I mean that's basically what I wrote, but tonally and technically these are a whole other level. They will drop below $800 AUD at some point, hopefully later this year.

You might have been better served chasing a HE600 deal.

      • Eh, I'm very happy with the stealth for the price I paid :)

  • Need the right Dac and Amp with these, something with warmth to tame them.
Personally use an OJ Chord Mojo with a neutral solid state amp.

    • +2

Or you can just slightly EQ them to your taste.

      • this is the way, just get a decent SS amp with plenty of power (which is really cheap these days) and go to town.

        • I mean there are still caveats to delta-sigma and solid state designs that go for good measurements under ideal conditions, but there's a lot of great work being done out there too, notably by Schiit of late (Mimir DAC, Midguard/Asgard/Jot 3 amp).

these any good for listening to my phone on the train? i currently just use the speakerphone

  • Too poor to know why these are considered a discount at $1499…

  • How would you compare these to Ananda Nanos?
